  • Spent 6 in back in the late 80's early 90's. Did my stint in the Gulf. I look back on my time with a sense of respect and fun.(Did my time with the MP's in Lamia as well). Yes it is not for everyone and I guess it has changed a lot. Still I had a good time. Don't regret a thing...

  • No they don't tell you about cleaning the heads, or the endless days painting ship, standing watch as bridge lookout in the freezing winter, with greenies washing over the bow, or vomiting in your rack after a rather harsh night out in a foreign port. But hey after 34 years, I wish I was still there. Civvy life just sux!!!!

  • How old is this video? Only asking because it shows a couple of RAN vessels that are no longer in service: the Torrens-class destroyer escourts and Oberon-class subs. Thanks for posting though, great video.

  • Reckon I have done more DC shit than anything else in my job description. I found out the less time you spent on a particular subject at RS or Cat. training, the MORE you did out in the fleet (ie. DC, Communal, watches etc.)

  • Been there, done that myself and glad to be out. Ships don't clean themselves, though. Still get up in the middle of the night to fight bushfires. Go for it, young men and women!
