  • Why is there a soundtrack? It's a freaking derailleur.

  • WHAT THE?? The title says, 'How To Install the Rear Derailleur...', yet, when the video starts, IT'S ALREADY INSTALLED and the first words are, "After installing the rear derailleur.....". I WANT TO KNOW HOW TO INSTALL THE DARN THING!!!

  • @oneclosefamily I said the same thing. Whoever put this video up is a retard. Its not a full guide unless the installation is in the guide..

  • @oneclosefamily you take you derailleur and you take your bike and screw the derailleur onto the bike with 1 big screw. that's it einstein!

  • very detailed instructions, now i now all i needed to....thanks

  • @polybrizo ur welcome

  • WORST VIDEO EVER

  • i have a shimano slx in the rear. it was not switching properly so tried to adjust it. made it better but now when i switch down from eight gear, it does nothing and then pushes over the 7th gear to sixth. help?

  • @Ahvgust check if ur mech hanger is straight. ... which aint an easy job if u aint got a proper tool :(

  • How can someone as thick (the uploader) as that, have the right to call people thick? he don't even know what the title means, or what the video's about, so i highly doubt he has a dick.

  • @OrbitalEnterprise well done.

  • Note to self:

    :51 --

    4:45 --

  • EPIC VOICE!!! xD

  • shitty music..

  • oh how i wish i was rich

  • Meant to say the derailleur hanger is designed to bend so your derailleur doesn't get bent or ruined. If you have a cheaper derailleur (my sram X.4 runs about $25) than usually you won't have the hanger as the hanger usually costs about $15.

  • Check the alignment of pulleys when making adjustments. It's easy to bump your derailleur and knock the pulleys out of alignment, which if this happens you'll need to replace the derailleur hanger in most cases. If you have an expensive derailleur you'll usually have a hanger (cheap part which will bend before your derailleur does). I found this out the hard way after seeing the top pulley lined up with my chain and not understanding why my rear derailleur was still slipping into higher gears.

  • fuck this video!

  • This is great. Now I know how to install my FUCKING DERAILLEUR.....change your title you twat.

I'm off to the repair shop, I'll watch them instead of this fucking shit...GTFO

  • The video title says 'how to install' so how exactly do you install one? I know the description says to just use an allen key to attach it, but how? which bit goes where and how do you attach the cable to the derailleur? The exact steps for installing one might seem blatently obvious to you and not worth explaining but how to recrystalise chemical compounds is just as obvious to me. Don't assume everyone knows how to do it just because it's obvious to you, because they don't.

  • Learning to adjust my derailleur to porn music. Hell yes!!

  • 0:11

    "after installing the rear derailer"?

    what?

thought this was about showing you how to install one????

looks like its already been done?

    fucking useless?

  • when installing the cables, before attach it to the derailleur, should I loose all the tension or increase it within the bolt on the shifter?

  • thanks very usefull

  • thanks for the video you douche bag it helped a lot but knowing a i got it from such a prick who writes in the description about how think people are for not knowing how to do this is just gay as shit you sound like a stuck up biker piece of shit

  • wow. whats with all the pubescent whiney bitches. watch. get over it. move on.....

  • is XTR only comes with that bla bla(..not sure what he said xD) alignment block? i have new XT and i don't have it..:s

  • Missing crucial beginning. Why do they start with "after installing the rear dérailleur"?.. I thought this video is "How to install and ajust"... But they miss the install part completely!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @discoveryellow Same here.

    Nice vid

  • Cool Video, very helpful I got my old 10 speed out the weeds and ready to ride once more.

  • It must be the music, because I'm PUMPED to install a rear derailleur after watching this video!!!!

Thanks for the narration, James Bond!!!!

  • I miss the times when bikes had one gear :D

  • why do i feel like i should panic if somebody walk into my room while i'm watching this?

  • Stormy, sorry, but I'll take the "out moded" systems that have worked beautifully AND SIMPLY for a century (who says it's unreliable?). I want something I can fix and maintain myself (who says it takes high skill?). A bike is elegant and needs little innovation beyond better materials (lighter/stronger) - the only ones who disagree are companies that want to increase profits with the next new thing. They're evil :)

  • I think that some of the people providing comment should have been monitored. Their bad language is not necessary.

  • haha "inner" @2.25 :-D

  • that intro song is awesome! does any1 know what it is?

  • Adjusting a rear derailleur for a hardtail mountain bike is easy like in this video. It's a different story for a full suspension mountain bike because of the rear suspension and rear frame moving up and down which can make it harder to dial in your adjustments. Just one of the reasons I love hardtails instead of full suspension and reason I ride one.

  • @traingp7 your a moron

  • lol no i think you are

  • How to install and adjust rear derailleur-FULL guide

in the vid the rear derailleur is already installed, change the title on just hot to adjust it.

  • Cesur - Shift Guide - Gerade Kettenlinie -

  • Words fail me. The music and voice are woefully sad. Sorry.

  • I think this is Shimano's movie, they chose the music and voice... The people designing these videos aren't teenagers is all.

  • what with the music and crappy voice??

  • what's up with the cheese dick rock music in the background? is this some kind of 80s action sports video? comedy.

  • Derailleur's and the shifters that operate them are by their very nature prone to A) Rapid wear, which requires B) Constant adjustment. It's an out dated out moded system that'll be dead and buried within 10 years. The Vid presupposes perfect conditions, but informs I guess.

  • whats the alternative?

  • Right now you could use a Rohloff hub, the same hub the current world record holder used to cycle around the globe; Gone are the rear sprockets, front chainrings, both derailleurs and the chain, along with all the maintenance issues associated with this sort of setup. Essentially it provides a 525% range which equates to approximately 24x32 at the low end, and a 44x11 at the top

  • But theres plenty of innovation coming and its just around the corner, the old style chain and derailleurs as I said before have had the best of it, they are just plain unreliable and require real skill to set up. People dont want that, they just want something that works for long periods without constant dicking around with it, and frequent expensive replacement.

  • yeh but that rohloff hub costs £600 if i'm not mistaken. or was it £1000 (?). i work in a bike shop, and a guy who's plannin to do a 1-2 year expedition around south america got one of those. deyre very heavy....not sometin a commuter would want i think - not2mention how pissed of youd be if one got stolen. this applies to normal internal hubs too - sturmey's etc...they're expensive to replace. yes they r great, but their production costs have got to decrease in order to atract da mass market.

  • I was only talking about now re: the Rohloff , weight isnt an issue you save on all the parts you no longer need its similar in overall total weight. Initial cost is higher, but theyre good for 150,000 miles plus, youd have to buy an awful lot of derailleurs to cover the same and waste your own time buying, fitting, adjusting ( you need a bike stand to do that properly another £100) Other advantages no duplication of gears, who cares about cable stretch, stop suddenly in a hi gear np

  • @unvise belt drive + Rohloff rear hub works better, though is more expensive and heavier at present.

  • @StormyTgurl They said that 10 years ago and the new options are just not good enough for all types of biking, a good rear mech is easy to fit and adjust (My 10sd XT) but today the SLX 9 speed is a class a C*** on my mates bike!!

  • @Benjamin5050 And on the flip side, hub gears are vastly superior for the majority of biking

  • @StormyTgurl eh the facts proves otherwise

  • @mekore Not sure what you mean

  • wtf is that accent?

and oh is there a video on how to actually install the f...ing derrailleur?

  • english

  • you dont need video to install it,its one threaded bolt to fix to your gear hanger on your frame then tighten it with a 5mm allen key, hope this helps

  • u fuckin idiot. if u don't kno how to use an allen key to attach the rear mech...den u shouldn't be ridin a bike.

  • arghgh u nut sack. wat is this ''specific'' way? tell me please

  • ok fuckface - since you're so fucking stupid - i'll break it down for you by the numbers.

the video failed to demonstrate unscrewing the b-tension screw, properly aligning the derailleur so the screw is above the d.hanger and fastening the der. to the d.hanger.

there's a reason why my comment is 5+ thumbs shit for brains - it because your video doesnt do it by the numbers. beginners need to see it done by the numbers - which your video fails to do.

you stupid sack of fucking shit.

  • @unvise are you saying you learned how to use an allan key to attach the rear mech before you learned how to ride a bike? Cause I learned to ride a bike when I was like 6. . .just saying

  • @unvise

Stop swearing man, e.g im still a kid bein 16, but enjoyin bike as any...

i dont know how to attach rear mech and im still alive and happy !

  • @grzana2429 im 16 too! and i enjoy bikes too XD

  • @dannyboy3546 no shit ! :D

  • This is a good demo but now I can't stop talking like this guy!

  • SORRY, HOW DID YOU INSTALL IT AGAIN?

  • Never attempt on a GT i-Drive first gen Frame.Possibly the worst frame to do anything on!

  • Awesome video! Super informative!

No longer shall I fear the derailer!

  • boo shimano woo sram!

  • where did you find this? im finding a video tutorial for installing and aligning Shimano Saint Shadow rear D.

  • found it on eMule. i've got one for the front deraulleur aswell.

  • the guys voice sounds like he's doing a male sex enhancement commercial or something

  • that guys voice is so annoying

  • Great Share! I've always wondered about this!

  • awesome! :D

  • the music is great. and fits to the vid.

  • I believe the music comes from the hit album "Music to Adjust Derailleur Gears By."

  • Not bad but the music is over the top and black parts on a black background makes it harder to see things.

  • good, but why the dumb music?

  • but why ask me?

  • It's a little silly with all its "hard core" music, but the video takes you through everything about installing a rear derailleur and syncing it with the shifter levers. A thorough video, though detail for specific parts should be consulted elsewhere.

  • Excellent video for adjusting a Rapid-Rise RD

PS :: Those XTR DCLs are the tits on the trail

  • Thank you so much !

What a pleasure to be able to repair the derailleur of my folding bike by myself, now I can do it thank you !

    Realy good video, well explained.

    A cyclist from London

  • hey hey :)

always glad that this helps :)

    what bike do you ride?

  • Hey I ride a Raleigh folding bike, the one wich has been given by Ikea, I bought it to an Ikea's employee.

    It has shimano 6 speeds.

    Regards. ALinoe

  • This is by FAR the best rear derailleur video ever made, very very clear, cannot thank you enough for this.

  • you're welcome :)

    are u a london rider?

  • No, I live in the pennines in the north of England, don't know how you london guys cope ; )

  • lol. dodgin traffic at +20mph ... most great fun :P

hmm...i really should post up some pic's of my bike. feel the need to show my contribution to "the riderzzz" lool

  • What an excellent video! Glad I found it (too bad it was after paying for the adjustment on my Fastback comp). It does wonders for visual learners than cannot quite comprehend the instructions provided with the bike.

  • love the power derailler music!! it really puts me in gear shifting mode!!

  • Boy! I wish I was smart enough to look this up about a week ago.I ended up taking my bike to the shop and have it done.

  • missing Step 1...attached the new derailleur to the hanger and put chain on derailleur by removing the pulley wheel or breaking hte chain and feeding it through.

  • I was doing so well up until "...and onto the largest sprocket of the free wheel"

I'm sorry, the what? The "sprocket"?

  • the sprocket one of the series of cogs that make the cassette. Its where the chain sits on in order to power the wheel.

  • what is this video series called?

  • i don't know, but it seems to be produced by shimano.

  • This video is excellent.

  • Can i have your rear derailure?

  • Is it so hard to install a derailleur on the bike?

  • No...

  • we all start somewhere. just becuase you do, doesnt mean that everyone does. using a computer also seems easy...

  • i hate bikes that are so clean

  • clean bikes means newer bike

you can sell for more cash

  • Actually ignore that, it goes into more detail later on. Must learn to watch all the way through before assuming they've missed stuff.

  • lol its kl dude. - btw..this is my video..."unvise" is my serious account....

  • Great for telling you how to adjust the system but not how to install it.

  • wtf the video starts with the derailleur already on the bick
