@BRADCOLORADO Right, Brad! I honestly believe YouTube was invented so the Baby Boomers could re-live our youth! Be careful tho ~ you can spend a LOT of time on here, strolling down Memory Lane! (How do I know?)
I remember this song coming over someone's transister one night when we were out camping. This was 1958 when I was only 9 and have loved it ever since.
Fast forward to the present and I now know that the singers Pat and Lolly Vegas of Redbone spent their formative years touring with Jimmy in his backup band.
Trivia I know but that makes me feel good because I am a big Redbone and Lolly fan.
Awesome Video, I actually watched this particular concert with him, I think he also did "Venus In Blue Jeans".....thanks for posting. Jimmy Clanton is one of my all time favorites!!!!
I had the pleasure of meeting Jimmy in a Restaurant yesterday - Mother's Day in Medford, LI, NY. He was so gracious - took pictures with me. He's still adorable. Judy Prianti
This is great-Thanks. About a month after this song was released I was on a train from Boston to Atlanta on my way to Fort Benning* GA for Ranger Training. I married *Just a Dream* in 1963 we are still together. Jimmy is still a 2- Door Hardtop. - classic car people will know what this means.
OK a 2 Door Hardtop is one the *Sportiest Cars* ever built. Rat faced *Ralph Nader* managed to get it banned from production along with the Convertible and put on an unsafe car list. Lee Iacocca managed to get the Convertible reinstated as part of the Chrysler deal. The very first bailout.
Actually, he had two more major hits, "Go Jimmy Go" and "Venus in Blue Jeans," and a number of chart songs, as well as two blockbuster teen idol movies, "Go Johnny Go" and "Teenage Millionaire." Best of all, after all these years, he's still solid gold!
When this song was on the charts, a couple in Gary, Indiana welcome their seventh child into the world. They were Joe and Katherine Jackson. It was a boy that they named Michael Joseph. I'm sure that you know the rest of the story. If his birth went un-noticed, his death countered it. Joe & Katherine had dreams for their children and they all came true.
Michael Jackson, who never really got to be a child, is dead. It seems that Papa Joe had dreams of being a big star, but never got out of Gary with The Falcons. Tito broke his guitar string and got whipped for it. Later, after hearing him play, he was impressed. The Jackson 5 were born. I feel that if Joe was guilty of anything, it was living his dream through his children. How many parents have made that same mistake with their children? A lot, probably.
Wonderful to see Jimmy. Never bought the 45 but found it on a Complation in the 80s. The years have gone by but Just A Dream is an alltime favourite of mine.
For you guys with youngsters around, tell them to check-out this video if they want to know what Nick Jonas (of the "Jonas Brothers") will look like 50 years from now.
I liked this song enough at the time to buy it (I was very stingy with my 1958 seventy five cents). I just really started to listen to the song and, with the sad chorus and all it is even better now to me than it was then. Just a great heartbreak type song.
BTW, I can actually understand the lyrics now. I used to think he was singing, "How can I live in Missouri", and "Your picture, is all wet with grief". :-)
OMG, it's really nice to see Jimmy. I met him long time ago in the 1960s when he appeared at the Whisky Go Go. I was a go go dancer at the time and got to sit at a table with him, pretending I was his date for the evening so he could get away from some crazy girl who wanted to take him home with her for the night. Jimmy was, probably still is married at that time, and was not about to fool around on his wife. He was absolutely gorgeous at that time, still is. JIMMY, YOU ROCK. Mickey.
This is great seeing what Jimmy Clanton looks like today. I don't know how old this clip is, but it gives me an idea what he looks like now. Just a dream was my favorit song what back when. It was nice hearing it again and seeing this sweet man again. Thank you for posting this. I loved it.
Love it.....
