I'm surprised no one's commented on how brilliant Shelly Winters is in this movie. Granted it's a far cry from her earlier image and roles (she actually taught Marilyn Monroe how to look glamorous and the two of them were roommates at one point), but she still pulls off an ugly hillbilly mama effortlessly. Not to mention she was also really good as Nana Mary on Roseanne.

@gaelicviking Shelly was funny and a great comedienne in this film. Remember she did the movie Tentacles during the same time period. She was pretty active in acting in the late 1970's. My favorite of hers is Lolita as Charlotte Haze. I also liked her in Alfie with Michael Caine.

My guess is that Dr. Terminus was either trying to remove a tooth from that guy's mouth with the weight or, maybe that guy was unable to keep his mouth open because of his age (he does look like a young guy but maybe for the movie he's a senior citizen) and maybe Dr. Terminus was going to give that guy some novacaine and then maybe he was going to attach a string to the weight and the guy's tooth to remove it out of his mouth once Dr. Terminus takes his foot off the pedal.
