Years ago I had a couple of close Iranian friends who attended the same university. They were both studying nuclear physics at the time. I don't know what happened to them after the Shah made his exodus and Islamic fundamentalism returned. I know Iran is far more advanced than Iraq or other Middle East countries and I also understand it would be a huge mistake for the USA to invade Iran for the same reasons you outline.
