  • Way to ruin a great song......

  • this reminds me me of my Dad Jimmy Brown RIP Dad love you always

  • great song!

  • THANKS FOR SHARING,

    ERIK TIELMAN, FLORIDADADA

  • I think I have heard the versions that are out there, and this song is not made and does not fit a so high pitch kind of singing as Nana performes here. Jim Ed is not just the first, he is the best. Mayby Jim Reeves could be as good as him, but few others

  • People, please free yourselves of the silly notion that a song must be performed in the same way it was first performed. Even the original artists often change the songs in concert (they get bored singing it the same way time after time.) It is OK to prefer the very first version you heard, but that does not mean other versions are "wrong". The defect (if there is one) may be with your inflexible "ear."

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung,, and how dare anyone say that this song is not for Nana. She can sing any song and make it not just magic but class and I mean class. She has the most perfect singing voice that could only have come from heaven. beautiul just simply beautiful. God bless all who hear this song and have a very peaceful and loving new year.

  • @Preekcrap2 it sounds better with a man singing it.

  • @VASINGER I totally disagree. I have a mate whose name is Jimmy Brown and he says if there was one version he have played for him, it is this one. It is beautiful and just wonderful. In the words of the James Bond film" Nobody does it better"

  • @Preekcrap2 its a matter of preference I suppose. I enjoy The Browns version best. Jim Ed Brown sings lead, and two beautiful female harmonies. Nana's high pitched voice and over emoting takes away from the simple message of the song.

  • @Preekcrap2 one of 1st memories i have of my parents, this was played she has a voice of an angel..

  • @orden265 I agree with you she does have the voice of an angel. She singing is with class and passion. We have few singers these day who can ever match that quality. God bless your parents for playing this to you Jim Ed and JIm Reeves nice as they are, Nana is true class and sent from heaven to bless us all. Great song and she is the best. Enough said

  • I agree. This song is NOT for Nana. Because it is the English version, it has to be sung with the 'right' English accent. Nana would be better doing the French version wich her tongue is accustomed to. This rendition is too reedy and spooky.

  • chalk an cheese syndrom here,NOT for her.

  • Only the Browns can give this song meaning. Nana Mouskouri is great but not with this song.

  • @sixtiesforever1966 I am really sorry to disagree with you but I was brought up with The Browns version, so it was the only one to like. I don't think that anyone but Nana Mouskouri is capable of singing the song so melodiously and power.

  • ddivinooooooooooooooooo

  • I have this in my mp3 player. It's soo beautiful it makes me cry. It's sad but it's also soo happy as well. She's an angel and such a beautiful gift. T-T

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It brings tears to my eyes. Moukouri's voice absolutely soars; I believe it is even better than Piaf's version.

  • Hadn't heard this version before. I bought the music sheet but it had too many chords I didn't know.....and still don't! Nana was one of the first women to disprove the comment that 'Men don't make passes at women in glasses!'

    thanks for finding it.

Thanks to stewball for sharing this.

I loved the original version (Who sang it Max?)

  • @geoff1945 The Three Bells was first recorded in Engish by Melody Maids in 1948

In 1959 it was recorded by The Browns in America and of course made it's way to England.

  • Pretty performance. Excluding Piaf's impressive French & English versions, as well as The Brown's lovely recording, in my opinion the definitive version of this amazing inspirational ballad was recorded by Patty, Maxene & LaVerne, The Andrews Sisters, in 1951 on the Decca label with Gordon Jenkins' orchestra & chorus. Patty's powerful solo spots were countered by the trio's impressive harmonies in the choruses. Jenkins' choir sang the third verse a capella before the sisters' rousing finale.

  • Do you know where one can hear this version? Do you have it? Can you put it on youtube?

  • This song is AMAZING by Edith and Les Compagnons - that's amost like a miracle with Edith's strong voice where she is over all the nine men, but I like this too, it is very very sensitive and Nana's tears are very impressive (and it is better then by Elaine Paige) Thank you for sharing!

  • I've got a play list, with this song on it, by about 6 different artists. OMG!

The one by Edith Piaf almost brings tears.

    God bless,

    OAD

  • Agreed!

BTW which one by Édith do you mean - the english version of the French with Les Compagnons? - that's the best in my eyes :-)

  • I love the Edith Piaf one the best, but all I can sing along with, is VILLAZHE...

Piaf's, when she is on stage with Les Compagnons.

The English versions are beautiful as well. Roy Orbison and Allison Krauss, are great..

I just learned last week that it's a Swiss song, and heard Piaf's then. LOVE IT!

  • What I read was that Édith wanted to sing that song (and i think I've read it wasn't written right for her,it would explain the Swiss song :-D) but she wasn't sure and then she offered it to Les Compagnons, they refused,so she offered them then to sing it with them, they accepted and this miracle was born :-D

  • Many thanks for this song. It is my favourite Nana Mouskouri song. By the way do you know if she is still alive or not.

  • Yes, she is still alive and she is still working vey hard doing her charity work for UNICEF. She is fabulous.

  • @gazzatop01 Nana Mouskouri is still alive at the age of 76 To the best of my knowledge she hasn't sung since her farewell concert in Athens in, I beleive, 2007

  • test

  • This version is closer to Piaf's original. The translation into English strays from the original French but the message stays the same.

  • No thanks. I didn't find this at all beautiful. I really don't consider this and the version done by Jim Ed Brown to be the same song. I like the words to this one better but I think the Browns' version is prettier. Allison Kraus's version is prettier too except the ending.

  • She's surely made this song her own with the inflection in her voice as well as the vocal arrangement. Mighty different from "the Browns" (trio of Jim Ed and his 2 sisters) rendition that made it popular.

  • buetyfull so much pure passion .wot a song she is amazing .

  • mm nice

  • Wonderful Thank you !

    Helen

  • Super!Gros merci!

  • Formidable
