James Doohan's ashes never made into outer space. The rocket malfunctioned and broke a part somwhere in New Mexico. They have not found James Doohan's ashes. I feel bad for his family.
As side note, this is not something I'd joke about. Simply google it and you can read numerous reports of the unfortunate accident.
@BuffaloHockeyTown 2nd attempt, The ashes were subsequently launched on a Falcon 1 rocket, on August 3, 2008, into what was intended to be a low Earth orbit, however the rocket failed two minutes after launch. The rest of his ashes were scattered over Puget Sound in Washington.
I have confidence that Simon Pegg will make an outstanding Scotty but sadly the movie will still blow balls with it's new "updated" generic action movie premise and stylings. It's a totally mainstream film catered to the general audience, not real Trek fans, Abrams said it himself. This is going purely on the trailers of course, but that's all there is to work with for now.
Actually m0pX, JJA has said very recently that although the trailer is rather action-centric, he has also tried to tell a very human tale, which he knows as well as any one of us fans is an essential ingredient for telling a 'Trekian' story. You are making some vast assumptions there, man, and yes...I know he isn't a big Trekkie himself.
Of course it can appeal to new fans and entertain old fans at the same time. You talk as if it is an impossible task. It isn't. And I think he can do it.
I'm still going to give it a chance and see it at the cinema, and most likely buy it when it comes out on DVD/BluRay (if only to keep my collection complete) so I'm not writing it off altogether. If the trailers don't represent the finished product and it actually turns out real good, I'll take back what I said, but if it wasn't a Trek film I wouldn't even give it a chance based on the trailers.
Yes, Karl Urban's McCoy was totally reverent and respectful. It comes as no surprise he was the only solid fan of the original show among the main cast. At points he even looked like DeForest.... his mannerisms were that good. And that irascible southern drawl.....spot on. Uncanny.
It was quite moving. Did any of you send a message on the official website. All messages recieved were sent into space with him, so im warmed that at least my feelings were with him, are with him as he drifts through the unknown :)I think I speak for millions of fans when I say he will be truely missed but I will have a smile on my face as I watch his performances as Scotty for years to come ..
Almost two years after his death, approximately one-quarter ounce (7 grams) of Doohan's ashes were sent into space, as he had requested in his will. The ashes, along with those of Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper as well as almost 200 others, were launched on the SpaceLoft XL rocket, on April 28, 2007 I hope his pecker made it. He would have wanted that...
James Doohan Gordon Cooper and 200 others were launched into the heavens for thier final ride. thier families honored who they were, what they loved, and their final wishes. Goodbye Scotty...thanks for all the wonderful memories.
For those who like Scotty (James Doohan) , would like to see themselves a part of the final frontier... I hope you will view our video.
