Found the lyrics of this beautiful Tagore song :-) Sounds divine in Varmaji's voice !!! The more you listen the more you appreciate and enjoy. Touches the heart. Thank you dear Musiquebox. :-)
MY mums favorite song,she used to hum all the time ,now i hum the tune. She is ninety and I am sixty. Yes I do hope the Almighty listens to our plea s.
My dad sang this one when my grandfather died. I was 12 years old - it sounded as if he was apologising to his dad -
30 years later, my dad is no longer alive. There are many a time, when I think that maybe I shud have listened to his wisdom...
30 years later, in a dark balcony overlooking the wide horizon ... out there billions of stars... my ipod plays another renderence..."If ever on my way...I fall behind...this poor faint heart, forgive me oh my Lord"
This was my grandfather's most fav song. He once told us that you will understand the meaning of this song when u r of my age. He was 65 then....and left the world when he was 69...in the year 1999. All I do when I hear any Robindro shongit is cry like a baby remembering my Grand pa!!! These songs make so much sense to me now. I wish my dadu was alive and I could have enjoyed these songs with him!!!! GOD BLESS HIS SOUL!!!
This was sung by Debabrata - we guys were in high school those days in Calcutta - imagine, listening to this song sung one stanza in Bengali by Hemant Kumar followed by Debabrata in English - LIVE AT RABINDRA SADAN Calcutta -
Thank you Mr Varma for providing translation, one of my aussie colleague just can't stop raving about this song, specially with the translation ( for Non Bengalis) this song has got a lot of depth. Thank you Again
I am a Malayali and I don't know Bengali language but the translation given Mr.Varma has been a great help in understanding the depth of this song. Such beautiful lines. Thank you Sir. Please continue to sing in Bengali too!
Neeraja - Malayalis and Bengalis seem to be one of the fantastic integrated groups when it comes to music - Thyagaraja's kritis and Tagore's Songs can carry souls far and wide away from our day to day metro stress!
odbhut shundor gaan.. when u are sad when u are tired of life.. this song help u to gain the power again..thanx a lot.. for bringing this song out here
every night after my presentation i listen to this song it means a lot, as wish I was educated enough to translate this masterpiece into English for the benefit of those who may not understand Bengali. Mr Varma is it possible to post translation here in english?

Here's Tagore's version, I think:
This weariness, forgive me, my lord!
If ever, I fall behind in my journey.
My heart trembles in a strange fear
Forgive me that agony, forgive me my lord!
This impoverishment, forgive me, my lord!
If ever, I look behind;
In the heat of the day, in the blaze of the sun,
Your garland withers on the worship tray;
Forgive me that dullness, forgive me my lord!

Forgive my fondness
that lavishes its wealth
upon and unprofitable past.
Forgive these faded flowers
in my offering
that wilt in the fierce heat
of panting hours.

Forgive my languor, O Lord,
if ever I lag behind
upon life's way.
Forgive my anguished heart
which trembles and hesitates
in its service.
