  • hi its me again.

why dose it stand numbers on the string in the tab when you already write witch achord?

  • Oh come on, how can you dislike this, negative fools! :p

  • Geniaal Jeroen, hartelijk bedankt!

  • You are the greatest Dutchman alive. Except Dennis Bergkamp.

  • hi you maybe think im stupid but i must ask whitch strings do you hit on the melodi. i know its e and b but when do you hit b and when e? can you send me a message?

  • @jaoskiillz1337 if i may be so free, use the tabs on his myspace, they'll help you out for sure! The link is in blue somewhere just under the video, above here, at the left side.

  • oh.... hell..... no... you know what i mean?

  • anyone else lol when he said the first part was easy

  • this is great ! I finally conquered thumb independence !! thank you !

  • @Hanklemieux123 He is Dutch..., ;O

  • You are French sir.

  • English is probably this guys second language. How many of you haters can say you don't speak your "second language" very well?

  • hi, thanks for the great lesson! What other songs do you recommend using this approach (alternate bass & melody) for me to practice on?

  • Ik houd van duidelijk nederlandse accenten :D

  • I'm an experienced guitarist and guitar teacher who's decided to pick up fingerstyle and I found this lesson very informative. Thanks for breaking the tune up, because my chops just aren't ready for the full version yet!

  • Helps a bunch. Very clear explanations. I commend you on what looks like a lot of effort applied.

  • Why so much hate on accent? Peace out guys, love and unity (Y)

    Thanks for the lesson mate!

  • Wtf this the first song i learn with my guitar teacher..:)

And i know how to play it already.

  • Which guitar do you have?

  • een, twee, boom, vier lol

  • don't forget that pink or he might count to tree.

  • @LetTheLightFlow let us hear your your dutch ok?

  • @Erondor I lost my dutch in the couch cushion

  • @LetTheLightFlow wtf! go get it, now!

  • @Erondor Going!

  • nederlands ?

  • Don't you think it wod be

  • 1,2,TREE,4

  • This song is hard to play for a beginner. Beginners can almost never use that G chord spreading your ring finger and pinky so far apart.

    Nice explanation tho :)

  • your accent kicks ass :)

  • Bedankt.

  • Great lesson, it really helped me a lot. Thank you very much. =) PS: When you click the link which brings you to the tabs navigate to picture 66.

  • this is what i was looking for.great job.dont stop!!! thank you.

  • Jan 4/11: I know you said to pinch the 5th and 1st string when starting, but do you continue to do that when you next hit the 5th string and so on. It seems to work, but I'm not sure that is what you are doing. In any case, I am, after 40 years, finally able to get the rhythm and melody working together -- thanks to you. It's slow going but I know I'll get there. I could always Travis pick but not with base and melody. This is a great help. Thank you so much!!!!

    Barry in Montreal

  • @TheBarry33 Hi Barry, The 5th is alternated with the 4th (the bass part) and the 1st is sometime schanging to the second (Which are the melody strings) I hope this helps. Great to hear from you, thanks! Jeroen

  • The tabs for version 1 can be found on his Myspace page at myspace.com/heronymusic/photos/14527329

    Thanks Jeroen! :D

  • @agentvip thanks so much, I've been looking for those. :D

  • @agentvip Hi thank you for posting the link!! A simple but good idea!! Cheers Jeroen

  • Hey H! Beautiful playing. Couldn't find your tabs on MySpace... Can you please send me tabs for the rist two versions?

    Many thanks

    Stacy

  • This song is a bitch! i practise for 30 seconds and then i ragequit. goddammit

  • @Brynjulvify check out stephan grossman's country blues dvd he teaches a simple version as the first song. its a three dvd lesson and its a great foundation for this kind of playing.

  • I can't find the tabs on your website.

  • Klinkt goed man. Ik ga je volgen :-))

  • i cant find your tabs for this one...do you mind sending it to me via email?

  • where can i see the tabs? xo

  • your myspace page is malicious

  • Where is the 4th version?

  • @stringzdr43 It can be find on my channel. Jeroen

  • ONE...Two...TREE...FOUR :DD

  • Elizabeth Cotton the original artist. thanks for the Lesson..

  • Ok great! Helping as I learn to play but the video sounds low! I cant play and listen if he is too low!

  • @Cherrelleis My guitar is in standard tuning 440hz. Cheers Jeroen

  • hi..i am new...i have i question for you,how do you read the finger picking pattern on the tab?

  • @TomboyGirlzX The tab indicates the 6 strings on the guitar from low to high. In this first version there's no pattern only a melody and an alternate bass. Good luck! Jeroen

Jeroen

  • Very well explained. Thanks.

  • this guy is so nice. lol

  • Great song as I viewed Elizabeth Cotten's video performance and remember Peter Paul and Mary's rendition. Enjoyed your lesson and was wondering if you had tabs of this lesson. Dank u wel.

  • OMG!

  • one two tree four. lol

  • The sequence of explanations in measures is great. The camera angle of the guitar makes the melody notes difficult to see . Very nice instruction. good pace.

  • 5.41 is what cords?

  • @imsuxppl Hi, it's a G. Bye!

  • i like can't catch the melody.

  • Hey Jeroen,

Keep up the good work! - PointFirestorm, Groningen

  • Great video but where can you find the tab? It's not on my space. Thanks.

  • @Cobalt1254 Hi if you click on the picture you must get there. Otherwise just send me your email adress and I can send the link and the table edit version if you like. Cheers Jeroen

  • ooooesome!!!

  • I Cant Here Any sound ?

  • @BlackAlert187 mmmm that's strange ... Is it only this video? I heard the problem before , I don't know how come....I have normal sound here. Jeroen

  • Hi, great videos :-) I'm struggling to right now to try to learn this. In video2 it's very difficult to hear which tones are off-beat and which are not. Could I trouble you for the tabs please?

  • goed gedaan hoor!

  • My word...that is by far the best youtube lesson I've ever seen, the way you break it down is fantastic and the different versions is a great way to learn! I'm going to be putting in some serious practice time to this lesson. Thanks! Any chance you will do Jerry Reed's the claw like this at any point?

  • @Khaddar Thank you very much for your kind response! The claw is a great song , but I never played it, but it's time to learn that one. Cheers Jeroen

  • Great idea for a lesson my friend. Keep going with this idea...

  • Thank you sooo much for that lesson....this helps me out a tonne...Cheers

  • Question I have been playing freight train with tabs .I don't work on alternating bass much because I just play with the tab and will this cause me problems later on? Thanks ahead of time for your reply .

  • @gibby6117 I think it will help you in general to move your fingers independent from your thumb in this style. Alternating bass is the most common way to get this together. Later on the bass part is a bit extended. All the best , Jeroen

  • Could I trouble you for a score/tab please? Many thanks for the vid!

  • @speckbot No problem, just send me your email adress. Bye Jeroen

  • Splitting this difficult part up in 4 versions from easy to hard : genious!

I've tried starting with travis picking before and failed. But i'm definitely going to try this tutorial!

  • why no sound lol

  • Shit man you call that easy lol

    Good stuff though

  • thanks for the video sir :)

by the way,i really want to know what is that small black pick-like thing on your hand....thats because my notes played with my thumb are pretty pathetic and sound like nothin but a deep bass :(

  • Comment removed

  • Hi there! It's a thumbpick. Bye Jeroen

  • this is called a thumbpick :-)

  • Hello and thanks for this series.

What make of guitar are you playing here? It sounds really nice!

    Thanks

  • Hi It's a Larivee. Cheers Jeroen

  • Thanks for the information. I am just at the early stages of playing and my guitar is a Fender Squier. It cost about £100.00.

As soon as I listened to your guitar I knew it was of high quality. This has now been confirmed when I typed "Larivee" into Google!

I will not be buying one just yet until I am ten times better than I am!

I think this may take a while! he he!

Thank you so much for the inspiration!

  • many thanks from an old french beginner

    this is a great lesson

  • thanks man

  • you need to play a lot louder. but great lesson, looking forward to the other versions

  • awesome, love it!!

  • heey jeroen,

  • Hi there, great lessons and videos, but can someone tell me how to view the tabs to this tune. I've tried looking on myspace but still not showing.

  • Hi If you click on the photo left above (on my myspace) you should find the tabs. Otherwise just send me your email adress and I'll send it to you.

    Bye Jeroen

  • Many thanks, will you be showing the other 3 versions of the song? Again great stuff and very helpful

  • Hi I just put up version 2 and hope to put up version 3 and 4 this month. Bye Jeroen I also have table edit tabs for vesrione 1 and 2.

  • you need a myspace account to see all the photos. So just make an account. Yeah, I know, just another reason to hate my fucking space

  • Good lesson! -Derek

  • Thank You. Great Lesson.

  • The are no tabs for this on your myspace page.

  • Hi they are under the images, otherwise just send me an email. Cheers Jeroen

  • Thanks alot! I really appreciate the lesson and tabs!

  • Great simple version of the song. Can't wait to see the next 3 versions.

  • Do you think a thumb pick is necessary? I know TE uses one but other players (eg. fretkillr) play without and still sound good. I have a thumb pick but find it uncomfortable to use so what do you think?

    Dan

  • I don't use it :)

just grow your nails a lilbit and it will sound great :D

thx for this simple song !!

  • Hi Dan, it isn't necessary. I like it because it gives a clearer bass sound and I have more control over playing the bass part. But for a softer bass sound the thumb works out best.

A thumbpick is defintly something to get used to, I thought it was stupid in the beginning too, but it's a matter of time. Best regards Jeroen

  • Thank you Jeroen.

Very, very good lessons - keep 'em coming.

    Cheers

    Dan

  • Oh, forgot to add - I can't grow my nails as I work in the building trade and they don't last two minutes when I try (rough jobs)

    Dan
