I only got to the part where he pointed that if men should have no opinion on abortion then Roe v Wade is irrelevant because it was decided by men. He completely destroyed that argument in 5 seconds.
Irrelevant. Pregnancy is SOLELY a women attribute. Both men and women can have siblings, but a man can not have an abortion or get pregnant, therefor this argument is irrelevant.
Even if this argument were to stand up to logical scrutiny its conclusion would still be invalid. Like all humans I was once an unborn child and as a former unborn child who knows pain, fear, oppression, and injustice I have standing in this argument.
It's true that the claim that being a male disqualifies one to opine on the morality of abortion is bogus for a number of reasons. I suspect what its proponents are trying, albeit ham-handedly, to get at is that since women uniquely bear pregnancy's biological & other burdens, women should be the ones who make the decision about whether to terminate pregnancy. BTW, do you believe there is a person present from the moment of conception? If so, would you allow any exceptions to an abortion ban?
@ProfMTH I'm not Alan, but I'm pretty sure Alan would make an exception in cases where an abortion would save the life of the mother on the basis that it's better to save one life than to lose two. Alan does believe an individual human life begins at conception.
@ProfMTH I don't know, but I know some of his colleagues do not make a distinction between a "human being" and a "person," so I suspect Alan would say that personhood also begins at conception.
the fetus is a parasite---so why should a parasite, like a tapeworm (another organism) have a right to use your body against YOUR WILL AND LEGAL RIGHTS?
@FeministSoldier No, it's that the argument men can not judge morally wrong behavior of women (eg abortion) because they are not women is childish -not to mention that it's the Bulverism fallacy.

I think this video should be re-though in the context of a thought experiment known as "the violinist" put forward by philosopher Judith Thompson.
If the thought experiment shows that a woman has AUTONOMY over the violinist similarly for the fetus.
So in short, it's not about if it's a 'womans issue' but more if it's a 'woman's right.'
So the video is simply discussing something that really isn't at the crux of any contemporary debate.

@philochristos "Alan does believe an individual human life begins at conception."
And by "individual human life" does Alan mean to say a person? Thanks.

Sooo...women are children and therefore cannot be trusted to make their own decisions.

@FeministSoldier No, that is not the crux of the analogy. The analogy is between the structure of their arguments.
