It is interesting to hear this tune "Ashes To Ashes" after hearing only the original studio album version for so many years. Sample's improvised solo is so different on this, more searching, less perfect. The bass and drums are also different than the original version featuring the masters Marcus Miller and Omar Hakim.

Everyone talks about Spellbound being his signature album. Ashes to Ashes was a good followup album to that released one year after Spellbound in 1990.

Ashes to Ashes! One of my favorite Joe Sample songs! I also like Spellbound, The Road Less Traveled, and Nightflight! He's such a talented artist. The best pianist ever!

I love this song so much. Joe sample is the best pianoists I've ever heard. His music makes me feel so mellow, yet so alive. I love you Mr. Sample.
