a lot of people talk about getting the BEB's done. i didnt on my first truck and it went 350k b4 i sold it and it was perfectly fine. on my "new" 5spd i got i did change them and the shop said that the original bearings were fine as well but for the peace of mind its worth it.
otherwise, i would highly recommend getting a 3in exhaust, it makes a huge difference in response and performance.
HDJ81's are amazing trucks, you will be impressed for sure.
Hi there Jimbojims :) A question if i could mate....So if one was to tow a 20 foot caravan around the country what type of difference would a 3" make. Where would the power be noticeable and how is economy effected ?? Also what is BEB's doh !! I also have a 1990 factory turbo diesel 4.2. mine is auto. Cheers
@32v8cylinders - BEB == Big End Bearing - possibly the one real weak point on the whole car... Japanese oil has got either a higher phosphorous / sulphur content (can't remember which) which protects the bearing shells. When run on "western" oil which lacks this, certain shells seem to get eaten up by the crank.
No audible warnings either - one moment it's fine, the next a con rod is making a bid for freedom :-D Easy to change and great peace of mind even if they didn't need doing...
Thanks disgruntledgoat !! Yes i recently found out about the "factory bearing stuff up". I checked and was glad to find the "repair plague" in the door jam of mine....still though !!! I was told there were 2 bearing suppliers and they didn't record what bearings went into what cruiser so they were recalled ??.
sweet!
