  • A 65 year old man was killed this past week off of Makawao Avenue. 5th, or 6th. death in the last 5 years. We expect to see another lawsuit filed in this case. It is our hope the the next suit will be brought directly against council members who have sat of their hands these past 5 or 6 years and did nothing. Ms. Baisa has become a real disappointment. Promising our community she would create regulations and support the general public. Instead she is responsible for these latest deaths

  • It is high time that the county regulated these invasive companies. They are out there driving in a dangerous manner daily. Still having many accidents each week. Councilwoman, Baisa has let us done by passing the buck on this one. Maybe she needs to spend more time at her Kula Hale and less time at her Makawao Hale. Maybe then she would be more sensitive to our problems and these safety issues.

  • @TheCagefighterMan A local attorney from O'ahu filed a law suit against Mountain Riders and one of their former employees, Ruben, "Jake" Alvarez, for the death one of ther riders in 2110, Feb.

  • Yes, unfortunately the most accidents are the independent ones......

  • Almost all of the deaths as well as accidents happen on the guided tours. Not the independent tours as the writer suggests. Check out website at Bike Maui Safety for the facts. Also Maui News, do search on bike tour deaths and accidents. Also Honolulu Bullentin. Stay safe. Aloha

  • A Minnesota woman who lost control of her bicycle during a downhill bicycle tour on Maui died on Wednesday, the Maui News reported.

Karen Narveson, 64, of Mankato suffered head injuries after she crashed into an embankment on the north shoulder of Baldwin Avenue below the Maui Veterans Cemetery, police said. The accident happened at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday. She died the next day at Maui Memorial Medical Center.

  • Every other day a person is seriously hurt on one of these tours according to the industry's own reporting. 12 people have died, maybe as many as 20, depending on who you believe. So be careful on one of these tours. Check out web site under bike maui safety to read about the facts. Some company's are safer. Be informed. Stay safe. Aloha.

  • actually this is exactly what the ride is like. I can say that from actual experience.

  • The stuff you see on this video is tame compared to the real problems these guided tours present to our neighborhoods. Check out the other youtube video under bike tour h___ on Maui. Left out the ell for the youtube censors. Also, check out website listed under bike maui safety, all one word. Real the facts before you go on one of these dangerous tours. Stay safe. Aloha.

  • These guided bike tours with the invasive vans illegally blocking our roads create a hazard that has killed at least 12 people and injured 1000's more. Dozens of lawsuits and much road rage. Check out the Bike Maui Safety site to see reveling information and another youtube video that exposes the real risks with these tours. Also check out Haleakala Hazards, by KHNL, Hawaii.Aloha.

  • @mauikanenokaoi What a poor excuse. Kill people, but it's all okay, just as long as you make some money. What a hole you must be.

  • and when we rode in the national park, the unguided bike tours had to, by the national rules, be GUIDED in the national park, bcuz it was safer. and if u did the speed limit 15-30 max, u wouldnt have road rage; SLOW DOWN, THIS AIN'T THE MAINLAND.

  • To say there have been almost no accidents since 2007 is a comment you would expect from a industry plant, in fact the accident rate has not changed relative to per riders. Check with any nurse or doctor in the E.R. at Maui Memorial. They have nothing good to say about any of these companies. 1 for every 600 riders as this industry has self-reported, (which is most likely lower than actual figures) is still too many. @mauikanenokaoi

  • 06/10-07 in Maui News, Opinion section. Maui Downhill employee, Justin Longo reports that there is one accident per 600 riders on the unguided bike tours. What he doesn't mentioned is in addition to this dismal record, there has also been at least 12 deaths. He blames the death of the 72 year old man on a heart attack but fails to mention why they took this man up on the mountain to start with. I'll tell you my opinion, MONEY.

  • KHNL did an honest video that just begins to show the problems and dangers of this industry. Also look up the bike tour h e l l on Maui video here on youtube. Shows the dangers of this; an accident every other day industry. Go to the web site bike maui safety for more details. Save a life, it could be yours or someone you love.

  • the guided tours are bad, the best one is the one that drops you at the top of the mountain and you can go as fast as you want with no person to yell at you

  • Dangerous to ride. Check out website at bikemauisafety to read about deaths and accidents. Illegal riding in the roadway has lead to many events of road rage from locals who are tired of these groups blocking our roads.

  • I'm doing this next month. yay!

  • me too! yay!

  • I live in Hawaii on Oahu, but I visited Maui over the summer. I love Haleakala it's amazing, it was really cloudy when I went for sunrise, so I couldn't see anything. Hopefully next time I go, I'll see that "amazing" sunrise and take a bike ride down as well.

  • lol i live on maui

  • Ahh! I want to go back there and live there I love it so much better than cold Minnesota!

  • @Agithor117 Does the weather change in the winter time?

  • @Agithor117 Does the weather change in the winter time? Can you still bike up in the winter?

  • @bitsurfer0101 It is about the same weather all year round. GO when you can

  • Did you use the Oregon Scientific camera for this? Nice video! Going to do the ride up then down on the 25th!

  • Yes, I did actually. Did you ride up and then down on the 25th? I wish I had done both with my own bike. These bikes were a bit too clunky for me.

  • looks real fun is this a worthwhile tour to do?

  • Definitely worthwhile, yes!

  • @glennplant Read the facts about the real dangers. Than make an informed choice. 100s of thousands of people, according to the industry, have taken the ride. It is popular. just know what you're getting into . Stay safe and aloha.
