  • i was just told my dog has this. she eats 2 cups of diet food a day. i dont get what happend

  • Dogs which are fed a species appropriate diet that is meat based do NOT generally run into this problem. It is really all about diet. Dry kibble diets are the culprit, with their heavy carbohydrate load - completely inappropriate for the carnivorous canine.

  • Thanks so much, Dr. Sam. My terrier/heeler mix may be dealing with this (bloodwork comes back tomorrow just before my wonderful vet leaves for Russia for 3 weeks). She has been on antibiotics several times in last 8 months and is finishing a round of Cipro/Baytril -- can those meds be responsible?

  • what about heavy breathing?

  • We just lost our beloved 12year old Jack Russell,Phoebe, to this awful condition, My huband and I are both medical doctors, and the only symptoms she presented was one bout of vomiting & drinking more water. I was concerned about diabetes and took her into a Veternary Hospital with a Cornell trained vet. Phoebe was in acutet AKA with Acute Pancreatitis. NPO, IV'S, Antibitotics, & surgery, and the love of our life was gone!! She was chasing a dog a day before admit. We are devastated. Pleasehelp

  • Our 6 year old dog just died of this a couple hours ago at the vet.It came on in just 2 days.My wife and I can't have kids and she was our baby. We are devastated :(.

  • I think my dog died of this today.

  • @KayteeLola I am sorry for your loss, Dr Sam

  • @KayteeLola I am so sorry! It is hard to lose a dog. I am very attached to mine, and it hurts like losing family.

  • Respond to this video... My dog just got diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Toy Manchester Terrier. I had another one that developed chronic mild pancreatitis after a zinc toxicity incident. He lived with it for 6 years, until he was 15. Hopefully, a change of diet can get Sammy's under control. Thanks for the help. It is great to be able to find out about things like this.

  • Thanks, this is very helpful!

  • @elovett36 Thank you for you very nice comment, Dr Sam.

  • when my dog first had pancreatitis she just about pulled through it, the vet said she would hav to be on a special diet for life, just today shes been diagnosed with pancreatitis AGAIN!! this time its a lot less severe thank god

  • Our Pomimo dog of 12 years, Scooter died two weeks ago from this. He had a complication also that they are not sure what happened, but his stomach blew up twice its size. Maybe a ruptured spleen or something. It hurts a lot when a loved pet is lost. Try to never feed your dog foods high in fat. I did this at times, and I feel guilty.

  • @moparmusclecars I'm sorry for your loss, my dog has been throwing up and not eating for a few days now, so going to the vet, hopefully she will be alright :(

  • our dog has just been diagnosed with this, its severe :(

  • My dog has just been diagnosed with diabetes and pancreatitus. She has been in the hospital for a week. She is definitely not in pain and yet they say she has very high levels and increasing levels of those, lipase and amylase. They are going to try to give her some plasma.

  • Thanks for this - its really helped me to understand why my Clumber Spaniel is sooo poorly.

  • @Tuffnell1 I hope your Spaniel hangs in there. My own dog had a lipase and amylase through the roof (> 10,000) and pulled through. Every dog is different. Thanks, Dr Sam

  • Thank you for putting this video together. It was very helpful and comforting to learn what I did through your information.

  • Also I should mention that at one time he had to take meds. with steroids because of his allergies(he was always scratching licking his paws)but then the vet found one with less steroids(but he hasn't gotten any smaller) and he also has an ear infection all the time which look like blackish earwax and smells like rotten cheese(which i have meds for).So what should i do with him?(he has alot of problems)

  • my dog has chronic pancreatitis and he is a overweight miniature poodle(who is about 5 years old)when ever he get these attacks he will eat very little if at all.also every time he gets up or lie down he cries. He has never vomit while having an attack. He is currently having an attack today. The first time he was brought to the vet and was diagnosed as Pancreatitis.
