its a sin to see whalom park wiped clean of this planet its an insult to the community but really to the kids!!!! they were cheated!!!! the next generation will never get to see it!!! thanks for ruining a good thing!!!!
I just moved back to MA after 6 years of being gone. I cried when I drove by here. Such a disaster that some place so special is torn down for greed. It wasn't the best park but it was our park and we loved it. It's a shame I won't be able to take my daughter there like past generations in my family.
Yeah, six flags, nice option isn't it,loaded with Springfield and Hartford gangsters in the summer, why bother, at least we have special memories of places like this burned in our minds, at least we have that , right?
I used to love the Pirate's Den. Then it burned down. I lost almost all interest in the place since.
They failed to keep up with the times, and that did them in. They got new rides when they were "happening" (apperently, their mindset) way after such rides peaked in popularity. Canobie did a good job of keeping up, and keeps them going. That, and being too far from 6 Flags.
i miss whalom park. we drive past it on our way to ct. (yes for some reason we go that way). but anyway, i loved going there. what is this world coming to when we just abandon our childhood memories like that. :(
i was born and raised in Fitchburg, and went to Whalom Park many, many times growing up. It's more than sad that it was torn down, it's appaling. i can only hope that a new park will be where the beloved park of many like myself's past once stood.
I have been viewing the Whalom Park clips here and it is sad to see it removed. This also happened to Bob-Lo Amusement Park near Detroit, my childhood playground. It will be a gated condo community. See Bob-li on you tube. Nice local commercial for Whalom too.
I share the same feelings as those of you do about your local park. As a kid I went to Detroits Bob-Lo Island Amusement park where we took a Steamship to the entrance. This park too fell to abandonment and sold off to a gated condo community. Search Bob-Lo on You tube. Nice local Whalom commecial too. Many memories. Sorry about your loss.

Hasn't anything been built here or the land still empty?

Have the condos been built yet?

The death of Whalom Park is symbolic of the state of our culture.
Whalom was a mom and pop business.
Six Flags etc are the Walmart of that industry.
That leaves no room for the Whaloms of the world.
It's extremely sad.
