If there's any debate over the title - X called it '14 days in May' cos Edward Earl Johnson was sentenced to death for a murder he didn't commit, 14 days after sentencing (in May) he was executed. The title came from a documentary on this particular injustice and the general barbarity of death row existing in a country that's supposedly civillised!
that's what I heard but I just checked it out and I am indeed wrong. Sorry, what actually happened is he went on to be part of boy band "Benz" alongside the singer from phats and small who is now with Vanessa Feltz, so they are former bandmates but not the same person, I apologise once again.
This is the real deal. I bought this when it came out in 1988 and it sounds as good now as it did then. They just don't make real rap music like this anymore....
Great track...Saw the X himself many many moons ago in Bristol, I was 15 yrs old you had to be 18 to get in the venue, I stood out like a sore thumb, not a bad first live gig eh :-) ...'Weapon is my Lyric' also a great track...top posts 'brown01971'
be cool if u did also looking 4 any uk hip hop of the same era, used to have plenty of white labels no idea where im gonna get some mems back. 11.59, blackrad mk2 where they all gone
mate, i am sure i have got that album in my loft ! i think its called heavy ragga hip hop. i will dig in the crates and let you know. i listened to it non stop on my paper round !
Major respect for upping this tune. Classic in every way. I was suprised a year ago when I searched for this and found nothing. Im sure we all rememeber the DEF2 video to this - set on a housing estate. I can still remember all the words - is that sad? I would like to see Weapon is my lyric added here too...please?
Time flies too quick... 20 years ago! 20 YEARS AGO This track was made.. wow. I still remember listening to Dave Pearse on Nite FM and hearing this track for the first time like it was just a few years ago.
i strolled into the record village on hoe st, bought weapon is my lyric on cassette, slipped on my new nike airs, slipped overlord into my walkman, and bowled down walthamstow market like i owned the place. wasn't life great?
For smooky906 check e-bay I got a copy of "Weapon Is My Lyric" on cd as my Vinyl copy is shagged cost me about £6 fortuantly there wasn't too many old skool hop hop headz bidding for it.
I saw the original documentary 'Fourteen Days in may' back in 1987 (aged15) and was deeply moved by what I saw, and it still haunts me to this day.....
Got all his stuff........... Weapon is my lyric is the best UK rap album ever in my opinion. Great tune you uploaded here I remember when it first came out on streetsounds hip hop 20,Of course it was the best tune on there, even better than Jvc force's Strong Island
You know what Though....There where some great tracks on that album (hip hop 20) Rob base Levi 167. Just what happened to Hip Hop..........and please don't tell me it had to grow up!
he did not do it
