  • It's sad what happened to this organ. They took the original console and replaced it and made a whole bunch of other modifications. Cavaille Coll was a one of a kind organ builder and there will never be another like him ever. Hearing the thunderous Contre Bombarde Stop on this organ that is trademark on so many of his large instruments brings a shudder down my spine.

  • A grand musical document illustrating the power and majesty of Vierne's priceless performances as beheld in these rarest of historical archives.

  • I wish he made more recordings, perhaps of his piece de fantasie. I was just listening to Olivier Latry's recording of Vierne's "Sur le Rhin". It just show us how much an individual with real character can become.

  • I found this recording many years ago (30+) on an old set of LP's (EMI, I think) called French Organs & Organists - 1930. I think it might have been re-issued at some point on CD, but I don't know if it's still available. I transferred my LP music to CD myself, & that's where this music ceoms from.

  • Is it possible to purchase Louis Vierne's original recordings?

  • I love Louis vierne! is fantastic, better than widor!

  • Was in Paris on tour. Only saw Notre Dame passing by. That group missed out. Truly a beautiful cathedral! Loved this piece. Really powerful.

  • Hello! may you can tell me, where I can buy that recording? Or is yours the last one on earth?

  • I would give anything to get my hands on this piece!

  • The recording or the sheet music? ;-)

  • Sheet music

  • It's published by Durand as 'Trois improvisations',it's notated by Duruflé but he made a few mistakes... So the only thing you have is order this score and you have the sheet music...

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!

  • wow!!! truly amazing! was this recording really Vierne playing? :-O

  • Yep. We tend to think of him as living a REALLY LONG TIME AGO, but he died in 1937 -- only 4 years before Pearl Harbor, if you want to put it in perspective.

  • It doesn't get much better than the composer playing his/her own compositions!

  • I absolutly love this piece!
