first and foremost... you need to keep in mind that both my wife and I have lots of years of wilderness travel under out belts, and we're both well qualified canoe instructors. Taking a child into the wilderness is no big deal, that's happened for thousands of years. Having skill and preparation to deal with any situation the comes up isn't as common place now as it used to be though.
It took us about a month in advance to prepare the food for this trip. Finding air charter can be done online.
Thanks for the great story. I work at Lynx Tundra Lodge on Lynx Lake, the lake that feeds the Thelon River. I can confirm the beauty of the area & the wildlife encounters. There are numerous canoeists that leave from Lynx every year & I often wonder how their trips turned out. Maybe we'll see you there sometime. Best of luck on future trips!
Really nice , can you pls tell me where is this , the river and what period of the year?! PLEASE I'm from Romania and I'd love to take my canoe over there!!! Great familly, great adventure!
The canoe trip is in the heart of what's called Canada's Barrenlands. It is a very remote region and travel there is very expensive. Our trip began on the Clarke River and then ended on the Thelon River. I do have a day by day trip report posted on my web site. A google search for Thelon River should turn it up.
What a wonderful way to instill love of the land in children, and introduce them to the risks of living free. I hope I can take my daughters on a trip like this someday.
Beautiful and Inspiring. Would that more families would consider similar family vacations. Absolutely spectacular wild life in Northern Canada, and the only way to have this kind of experience is if you take the Voyageur route, on water, by canoe as First Nations do and have for 1000's of years. Bison on the prairie were once even greater in number than the caribou.Appreciated your respect for found artifacts as well. Bravo and Thank you...

Fantastic!!! You are a lucky young man to have such good parents and they are very fortunate to have you. Keep making the vids I cant wait to see more.
This is a breath of fresh air! A reminder to write up my crossing of Bass Strait alone last summer - although it just doesn't compare to your equisite vast fields of green and diverse fauna of larger size.
Maybe I am just amped up after buying a new spray-deck today and then hitting the water for the first time in months. Practiced rolling on the comparatively unremarkable Nepean River in the warmth of Sydney's west. Native wood-hens amongst the few reeds were the best I could see today...
Amazing! Your son will treasure this experience for the rest of his life and pass the experience on to any children he may have in the future. I admire the fact that you understand the necessity of sharing time with our children. Well done!
Yes, we saw some grizzlies. All the ones we saw on this trip were pretty far away, but we've been pretty close to them on other trips. No bad experiences so far.
Those birds are like precision bombers. Crazy! These kids are seeing things that most modern kids will never see in their lifetimes. Awesome! And that caribou herd... unreal. Thanks for sharing this with us.
