  • This hit's so close to your heart.

  • heard this when i was 8yrs old and it has always remained deep in my sole...ive had many beautiful, bittersweet experiences since then...many that fit this song...

    thank you!

  • Constantly learning lessons. Some are very painful. This song says it all.

  • can someone please place ... Find Yourself by jose thanks.

  • this is such a poignant song and again i heard this Tom Paxton song on "Feliciano" the album i had which contained songs which were covers by Feliciano, i found his versions i liked better than the original artists even the Beatles "In My Life' which i never heard before. i saw Jose at a concert in Toronto years ago, his guitar playing is extremely good altho' his voice may not be as good, but his rendition of many songs are very good.

  • My dad would sit and listen to this crying day after day when my brother was killed.

  • In a car full of darkness, noise and flashing lights on a moonless highway - Jose sings about better times though sad as they may have been. He's a friend in hard times.

  • in a car full of darkness, noise and flashing lights on a moonless highway - Jose sings about better times though sad as it they seem to be.

  • It's one of the saddest break-up songs I know of!

  • First heard this song in the '60's and have loved it ever since.

  • Sad old, sweet old song. So nice.

  • The great Feliciano! What wonderful words, can it be sung any better!

  • Thank you so much, I've never heard of his earlier music before, they never played them on the radio in the mid70s in San Francisco. : (

  • >..This is the best song of the 60's I've ever heard....

  • Unbelievably beautiful!

  • So pretty....

  • For My LusciousOne*

  • At last, I've found Jose's version of this song! His version is the only version I want to listen to, over and over again. His plaintive crying pleas just bring tears to my eyes, reminding me of a long lost love in my youth. And his guitar piece midway thru was magic, tried to play it myself but never quite getting it.

Does anyone have a live version of Jose singing and playing this song?

Thank you Jose, for your beautiful songs.

  • Excellent version..

  • Saw Jose at Homecomming in 1967. He was the intermission entertainment for the New Christie Minstrels. He did things with a guitar I never heard before or since. (Acoustic mind you.)

  • Thank you so much for posting this haunting version of a beautiful song... brings back childhood memories of the square "dancette" machine that played the tune so long ago ! Still grips me even now.... quite magical. Thanks

  • Love is like a garden that needs constant weeding, pruning and nourishment. Relationships fail when the weeds take over and the flowers die.

  • Please don't go, please don't go.

  • This song was my best friend after being left behind by a high school sweetheart. I was in love (!) - she wasn't!! I must have listened to it a thousand times, the track on the album a dark circular stripe it had been played so many times. I saw Feliciano, at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, CA, maybe a year later. Hard to explain to my date why the tears were streaming down my face when he played "The Last Thing on My Mind!" Ah, the memories of youth!

  • Truly one of the greatest and most beautiful love song ever , played and sung by Feliciano who is peerless with his version, rises like a mist and grips your heart like a vice, I never tire of listening to it. A huge thank you to Tom Paxton who composed it and I am sure this is how he meant it to be sung..Simply beautiful..

  • @Jurassicpals - Well said!

  • its sad that only 47 people out of 18,ooo rated this beautiful song, feliciano is truly amazing, even his guitar style is his own,no one can come close!!

  • @6547811

I can't believe 20,000 people can't vote. I think I voted twice. I believe Jose Feliciano is only known by people who remember to look for him. He isn't a has been. 'The last thing on my mind" is hauntingly beautiful. I've shared his music with Hispanic guitarists who want to learn more. They say "Oh, isn't he that blind guy?" oh my. Why can't people share with each other the music that touches souls? I do it all the time. Thanks for reading. keep a song in your heart.cyn

  • @cynsere I agree. I was introduced to Feliciano by a friend like you when I attended college in 1968 in Charlotte, N. C. I still play his music at 67 and share it with my kids and grandkids and so the Feliciano seeds have been planted in two more generations. Top of the morning to you.

  • I just sat with the goosebumps coming in waves...forgot how magnificent Feliciano sang, pleasure to introduce him to my own kids this Valentines, thanks for a beautiful posting

  • Of course this great (yes, DEFINITELY TOM PAXTON) song would be in great hands if Jose sang it. Never had a doubt.

  • This is one of the most beautiful versions of this great song (by Tom Paxton I think) even better than Paxton himself.

  • I was a weekend disc jockey at an FM radio station back in the 1970's. The format was easy listening and adult contemporary. I played this beautiful song many times when I was on the air. Thanks for posting it. Jose is certainly a great musician and a true gift to all of us. It was a joy to play his music on the air.

  • Went to see him in Ronnie Scott's a couple of months ago, still as brilliant as ever.

  • One of my favorites. Haven't heard it in a very long time. Brings back lots of memories. Nobody sings like Jose Feliciano.

  • so beautiful! thank you for sharing!

  • I know Tom Paxton wrote it. I've heard Neil Diamond's verison but nobody had the feel of this song lice Jose Feliciano.

  • Paxton may have written this song, but Feliciano's version is my favorite. 1968-in the service, going overseas, got a dear john letter,i wrote her back with the words of this song in it to melt her heart. never got a response. This song takes me back there in my mind. Bittersweet memories for sure.

  • A heartbreaking crystal clear, quiet and gentle rendition... Jose is one of very few artists who are able to put so much emotion into a simple melody

Who like this - search for He's My Brother or his own composition Once There Was A Love

  • Good song. Best version I have ever heard. This is the way it should be sung.

  • There have been plenty of good versions of this song.... My personal favorite is Doc Watson's rendition.

  • While I appreciate Jose's soulful voice, IMHO, this pales in comparison to Paxton's original.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. I have been waiting for this for a long time.

  • Simply the best. Jose is soooo unappreciated. Outstanding, soulful balladeer, incredible guitarist. Amazingly he is STILL great today.

  • 2:00 in the morning, after hitting all the clubs, all 'liquored-up', 1970, graduating from college, no more deferment, army physical in 2 weeks, just broke up with girlfriend, don't know if playing this song over and over, helped or hurt? Great song though!

  • We'd know each other since primary school, she taught me about love, feelings and women but married someone else. I thought he was an arsehole but went to the wedding because she asked me to. Just on a year later she turned up on my doorstep crying, he'd been having an affair with one of the bridesmaids. We saw each other for about a year after that but then she met someone else, we never said goodbye. After 30 years of marriage I still miss her! love you Bernie wherever you are! xx

  • Best version of this song I think.

  • @ASRoces listen to The Move

  • @ASRoces Incredibly you may be right!...though there are some other incredible versions.

  • AT LAST!!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

Did I say THANK YOU??? You are great!!!! and you know how happy and surprised you maed me today!!!

    MUch love, DJ

  • Nice upload rovingeye2, thank you for sharing.

The purity of this song is breathtaking. The one that got away, always the one you never forget.

Shame about the pig trampling the roses here, crass comments and shame you cannot remove them.

  • Oops sorry kids. I meant Tom Paxton not Waits.

    Me be bad.

  • She drove by me in her new boyfriends car and isaw her duck down. That's how i found out that summer night back in 1969. I was going into my sophmore year at iggy. My savy older brother had this album. I played this song over and over. It stitched up my torn heart. She was beautiful.Probably still is. What great memories.

Yahooey!! what great Hose work on Waits tune.

  • Beautiful guitar playing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Feliciano!

Thank you rovingeye2 for uploading this beautiful, plaintive lament for us all to sob to.

What a wonderful guy you are, to be sure.
