Great as the words of this speech are and good as Branagh is in delivering them, I still enjoy the reactions of his men even more, especially Brian Blessed's wolfish grin. The French herald makes good mileage of his few lines and manages to suggest he admires the King Henry's courage and regrets his certain defeat and possible death...his farewell is almost wistful. Good acting all round, in my opinion.
I know I'm American and many generations removed from my English heritage, but I am proud of it, and my Norman blood and my last name Trowbridge. God I love this movie.
"...from this day to the ending of the world..." sends a chill down the spine. God - that Mr Shakespeare knew how to write. Makes you proud to be English! Thanks for posting.
Branagh did a brilliant job with this immortal speech: he managed to be both heroically eloquent and touchingly naturalistic, a formidable feat to pull off successfully. This speech (and the entire picture, for that matter) was dazzling on the big screen.

this part of henry v is more about rallying the men together before the go into battle than it is about being english.and what is being english ?.is there such a thing as being english now? the english as a race seem to have been over-run by ethic minoritys and economic migrants that the labour goverment seem to give priorty over of its own people "the english people" i mean they seem to give passports to any one that applies.
That speech was very much about the English, especially since Englishness was really taking off in Shakespears time. Henry would have said something akin to it, to build up a sense of massive national pride. He would have to of said something pretty encouraging because the French Army was obliterated by only a handful of Englishmen.
There was a time when if you had asked me who I'd most like to be in the world I would've said Kenneth Branagh: handsome, talented, the greatest Shakespearean of his generation, married to Emma Thompson. Then he overthrew Emma for Helena Bonham Carter. What a douchebag.

I love this clip because it includes the exchange with the Herald.
This movie is utterly brilliant-- it engages the audience completely.

2:09 - Prodigious bit of flob comes out of his mouth; tut tut Harry ;) !
Hardly congruous with the Shakespearean decorum and probity that should be exuded in such a scene!

That aside, laudible performance though from Branagh.
I just can't countenance the notion that Laurence Olivier delivered this speech better than he did.

Henry V- the most honorable and just monarch that ever lived.
England- best country ever.
British (ENGLISH) empire- biggest ever.
England gives the world the biggest and best legacy ever. No one will ever replace her.

If he did say that, Oscar Wilde was wrong.
He should have said, "True patriotism is not viciousness, any more than true love is lust."
