@amanasro Agreed, a load of pompous, ignorant rubbish floating around. The platitudes about him being Eastern European, his face, his voice, ... just makes you wonder who the people sitting next to you in an opera house are and what they have come for. He is clearly one of the best singers of his generation.

a great singer, but...

the main problem, according to my wary opinion, might be, that he is no singer of italian but east-european technique. if each word is sung covered, everything sounds somehow dull. you might hear what i mean, when you watch the youtube-video of sherril milnes (milnes o carlo asoclta).

For all the people who have made comments saying that his current vocal state is the natural decline due to old age... bullshit. He decided to add that weight. I find it awfully hard to believe that the voice really gained all that weight naturally. Got lazy technically. And you can see it in his face... it almost looks like he has two golf balls surgically placed inside his mouth. The voice is nothing of its former beauty. Such a shame too... the voice was spectacular.
