It looks like Kabanov being drafted has already paying dividends, I dont think its coincidence that Petrov decides to finally come over after the Isles draft another russian. I know we drafted Klemetyev last year but still, Kabanov is Petrov's translator and with these two playing on the same line in the rookie camp is most likely a future Islander line. This team is truly looking better every single year.

Isn't a question of if but when Petrov will come. He wants to come and will when his contract is over if not before. As for Tavares, that's a silly comment. They said the same about Stammer last year and look at him now.

FIlatov (CBJ) was the #1 ranked European skater in 2008. Some scouts were talking up Petrov as being the better pro though b/c he's bigger and stronger. Think Yashin during his prime Ottawa years...

Anyway... absolute steal of the draft IF (and that's a big IF) the Islanders can ever get him to come over. Scary to think what Petrov, Tavares and Okposo could all do together...

wasn't this guy supposed to be a late 1st rounder or early 2nd round pick. I heard his stock dropped because of the whole contract thing with him and his russian team. He is probably going to get an invite to training camp this summer just to get a feel for it then have him go back to russia, but if he likes it here then the isles will try to buy him out from his contract with his team. Thats just from what i'm hearing cause he will be like 23 when his contract expires and can come to the states

Petrov for a kid that is 6'3 and 220 is a very smooth and agile skater.

He is under conract for what, another 2 years? At that point, the cap will have risen again, meaning the max amount you can throw at players will rise with it. So long as this kid is healthy, we HAVE to offer as much as legally permitted to this kid. Petrov, with KO, Baily, Comeau, Bergie, etc...this is going to be a damn good team and it won't even take too long.
