They allow you to install ANYTHING on their hardware and even give you tools (bootcamp) to let you do it. You can upgrade any part of a Mac that you can on other OEM machines.
The average price on a MAC has gone up in the last year and the average price of a PC has gone down , see anandtech. Slower buffered memory doesnt help MAC and these days they have swerved so much to the right there pretty much are PCs', X86 vs RISC, dropping things like appletalk for regular protocols. They look nice but so does my own build which I cherry picked the components and used an antec 12 case. Overclocking a MAC isnt advised which is a shame...
If you are using a computer to play games, there are much cheaper alternatives. Dominoes, for example, shouldn't cost more than $20, and they're also better for the environment.
