this song is a classic makes me think of my 1st husband which he did fulfill in me everything and more made me feel and live like a princess 4 ever in my heart lou love karen
Somehow, I managed to miss this song when it came out. Admittedly, I was only 13 then, but the only song that I remember from this album is "Missed Opportunity"... and yet, THIS was supposedly the bigger hit.
@Tizmaole I was in high school when this came out in the spring of 88. I remember driving to school and hearing this on the radio all the time.I believe it went to number 3 that yr. Great memories.
@MSLT34 They actually did an album called Live at the Apollo. It was with two of the former Temptations David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. It was an AWSOME album!!
These guys were a hit machine in the 80s. I liked every single they released back then. This was essentially their swan song, after this their popularity waned. Though, some minor hits followed this one.
@E5xrifle no, i don't recall daryl ever sounding like how he did around that 4:40 mark, michaels songs with that sound were easily found on any of his album before 1988 starting with his 1987 album bad.
Why did they leave a respectable label like RCA and hit to a pop label like Arista? Don't they know that Clive Davis is just using them for window dressing like he did Aretha Franklin? Pity! Nice tune, by the way.
Who are the 7 ignorant people that gave this a thumbs down????
Probably members of Coldplay and Train cause they got mad when they seen all the comments about how terrible todays music is, and they know they couldnt write a Hall & Oates song if their job depended on it.
Some bands come and go . But Hall and Oats not one of them , They here to stay . Their songs are masterpieces . .You can't find good music these days . With one hit after another . Their mens are hall of fame .
I saw them 10 years ago and have always loved their music. They are of the artists that don't need a recording studio to bring a rich music experience.
My husband used to tell me this all of the time. May he rest in peace. I smile whenever I hear this song because he was so right! I love this era of actual music!!
@GEEZmaynn "Everything Your Heart Desires" was released in 1988 as the lead single from the Ooh Yeah! album, the song peaked at number three in the United States.
@GEEZmaynn "Everything Your Heart Desires" was released IN 1988 as the lead single from the Ooh Yeah! album, the song peaked at number three in the United States.
These guys are the GENUINE....shit they GREW UP in Philly!! Daryl was hanging with the Temptations and Smokie and all that! They learned form the MASTERS of R&B!! All this before Tiberlake was even BORN!!
However i do believe Robin Thicke does has so potential.....
I'd forgotten just how great this song is. Of course it looks dated. The video was made 22 years ago. Duh. What holds up is the music. Great then, great now. That's the difference bewteen Hall and Oates and a lot of music now, and back then too, for that matter. You won't know or care who Lady Crap Crap was in twenty years. Oh, and Daryl Hall asking the silliest question I've heard. 'So. Do you still want me?'...lmao OF COURSE I DO...lol
@LAWoman323213 Point taken...lol Oddly enough, I think Madonna may be part of the reason Caca / crap crap doesn't last. It's all old hat now. But then, as PT Barnum said, no one ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the American public.
Nice songwriting. The song seems to be composed of three or four chords played in different combinations. He changes key in the vocal melody without changing the basic chord structure. Elegant.
@forshorn Well said. What strikes me about this song and "Ooh Yeah!" in particular is the fact that, while the songs may seem a tad simple on the surface, if one chooses to "listen deeper", so to speak, the arrangements are actually quite complex, as you seem to already know. Thank you for pointing that out.
Astonishingly good, no make that fantastic. Hall and Oates bestrode the pop landscape as if they owned the DNA of what makes rock and pop great. Musicianship, song craft and vocals this perfect are the ingredients of genius. The history books will record that they are one of the all time great bands we have ever seen. Every song is full of great hooks and still sounds as fresh today as when they were released. Daryl Hall's voice is one of the best in the business.
This video looks totally dated today but the tune is just incredible. Check the live 1988 and 1995 versions of it or the LFDH one of 2008: That's music with a big M.
Is there a group as good as these guys? I'm sure there are a bunch of people that might have something to say about this, but I think Hall and Oates are one of the most legendary groups in the history of music. They composed and wrote a body of work that stands with the best of them. They are legends and deserve to be recognized as much as many of the lesser groups out there that everyone gushes for. Their songs still hold up!
The best "Hall & Oates" song ever!!! I would love someone to cover this baby and do it right! I can't understand why "The Bird And The Bee" didn't cover it on their new tribute album...
@mikebtko I definitely agree. One of the best songs of that era. A remixed version by DJ Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Paul Oakenfold, or Deadmau5 would be really cool.
I've read several comments from several artists - and these guys seem to have the most respected comments of all the artists I've read - it says something about them and their following. I went to a concert of theirs and they spent 20 minutes running through a merged version of all their hits, one running into the next - I would love to find that but doubt it exists. I raise my glass to all those fans out there - thanks for making this duo possible.
Great song! Even though H & O were coming to their "end" on the charts. The lyrics to this song still hold true even now in the second decade of the new Millienium. Do you have everything your heart desires? The greedy bastards that almost broke this great country in 07/08 should listen to this song. Maybe they'll actually learn something from it!!
It would be everything my heart desires if someone could make music these days just half as good as this. This is truly some of the best material ever made. Thanks for so many memories H & O.

@Thirdgen83 You gotta be fucking kidding me...on the other hand, I shouldn't be surprised you like this wimpy pussy bullshit. Fucking worse than pathetic.
@Mojolightnin they have had more pussy than you could ever dream of.If they wanted they could have your woman as well, that is if your lucky enough to have a woman, dumbass.
Well I guess it's just a matter of how you define "really big" but my def would be top 5 or so. Never heard "so close", maybe because I started tuning out music around '89 because that is when music in general started going from good to sucky.
My personal fav of these guys is "private eyes". Some may not know this, but that was the #1 song in about october 1981 but knocked out by ONJ's "physical". THen in jan 82, "maneater" knocked out Olivia Newton John's "physical" from #1.
@JavaJoelRadio Nice catch, you are right. ONJ had only a few more hits since physical. I think her last top10 hit - and only top10 hit after physical - was "twist of fate" in december 1983.
@nbomodel I personally think it all started the summer of 1989 when a crap song like "rock on" by Mike Damian was the #1 song in the nation. I think that paved the way for all the mediocrity 2 follow. '89 did have a few more good #1s though like "dont wanta lose you now" by Gloria Estefan and Martika's "toy soldier" but as a whole yes 1989 was the begining of the end for good music. Thank god for mp3s and youtube!
@rawn4203 I dunno about that. I'd be more inclined to say that 1991 was the year that good music R.I.P.; y'know, what with all those navel-gazing "alt" bands, like Nirvana (shudder), Pearl Jam and the like.
Hopefully, the legends from the 80's, like H&O, will rise up against the flood of bullshit today and make a STRONG, CONCERTED comeback.
I mixed up my songs because i stepped away. Everything your heart desires sums up how a person can truly want someone special to be in their life even today.
Missed Opportunity was a great song for the 80's but the words still have a lot of meaning for people of today in the first decade of the 21st century.
Hall & Oates: Textbook proof that white boys have soul. Listen to that high note Hall hits just after the spoken bridge. Damn. Anyone care to disagree? Just listen to this tune.
This is the way to expose people to this music. 1989 THIS came out. I remember people/parents acting like Bret was the anti-Christ. Man, those were good times.
Always loved how Daryl says "I ain't gonna let you go, no no" and continues to say no until the song fades completely. Made me believe he never did give up.
Also, the video uses a slightly different (remixed) version than the album. I was never able to find it.
hall and oates are the best their music just sends me onto a frenzy when i here it i just want to jump up and dance and im 14 loved for a long time even though i didn't know the group name i still listened
man, what a song to cruise by in the summer time.....window down, nowhere to go and not in a rush to get there. ...great time and thanks for posting..watching in HQ
The feeling is not unnecessary - Daryl is an outrageously gorgeous man with an outstanding voice. What can we do? Wonderful video. Thank you so much for posting. XX
Thank you for posting a high-level video of one of my favorite Hall and Oates songs! "If you had everything your heart desires, would you still want more?" Considering the recent economic turmoil caused by people who were consumed by greed and for whom too much was never enough, the song poses a timely question.
I can't imagine anybody NOT loving this song...I mean...this song will put you in a GREAT mood...in June of 1988 Hall&Oats took this song to #3 on the pop chart and remains one of their best songs yet
These guys are the genuine article. They have the talent, charisma, discipline, and love for what they do more so than anyone who's in the music game today. I don't think chart positions, 50,000 seat venues, and MTV can account for their longevity or so called lack of success these days.
The satisfaction of not being a manufactured image and commodity is what made them great and their unrivaled talent keeps them great.
this was a very underated song just as his solo song called dreamtime these guys have always been remarkable this song here was wrote to his wife when they where going throught there divoice
This song is sooooooo underrated and over looked on Radio Today. This song is kick ass and I love Hall and Oates and this song is from 87 or 88 ... sadly I dunno if this track charted... Love old school pop/soul music!!

@JavaJoelRadio Nice catch, you are right. ONJ had only a few more hits since physical. I think her last top10 hit - and only top10 hit after physical - was "twist of fate" in december 1983.

@rawn4203 I also think that music started a rapid decline around 1989...not sure why but it's quite evident.
nbomodel 1 year ago
@nbomodel I personally think it all started the summer of 1989 when a crap song like "rock on" by Mike Damian was the #1 song in the nation. I think that paved the way for all the mediocrity 2 follow. '89 did have a few more good #1s though like "dont wanta lose you now" by Gloria Estefan and Martika's "toy soldier" but as a whole yes 1989 was the begining of the end for good music. Thank god for mp3s and youtube!
rawn4203 1 year ago
@rawn4203 I dunno about that. I'd be more inclined to say that 1991 was the year that good music R.I.P.; y'know, what with all those navel-gazing "alt" bands, like Nirvana (shudder), Pearl Jam and the like.
Hopefully, the legends from the 80's, like H&O, will rise up against the flood of bullshit today and make a STRONG, CONCERTED comeback.

Dreamtime is a good song but the lyrics were hard to listen too because the volume on the transmission was too low.

Great song

Always loved how Daryl says "I ain't gonna let you go, no no" and continues to say no until the song fades completely. Made me believe he never did give up.
Also, the video uses a slightly different (remixed) version than the album. I was never able to find it.

The feeling is not unnecessary - Daryl is an outrageously gorgeous man with an outstanding voice. What can we do? Wonderful video. Thank you so much for posting. XX

This brings me right back to the days of my humongous crush on Daryl Hall...
Brilliant song from a fabulous album...'Ooh Yeah!'
Daryl's voice still sends shivers down my spine and gets me feeling all unnecessary all over....
