First of all the great majority of people who speak a bit of English are mostly acquainted with the American one, because of the films produced, or music, as well. I think it depends on the British accent at hand, I don't really think about most British accents as such, but I love some of the really unique ones like Glaswegian, Geordie and Cockney haha. Being from New Zealand, quite a few people just assume Australian when they hear my accent haha so at least be glad yours is distinctive enough to be recognised quickly =D
I´m form Mexico and here people teach american english, I think that british english is very nice, it's really interesting, but if you learned american english is hard to learn british accent, I've been trying but I can´t speak right, sometimes I get confused. @imp7lol-- you can't say "defence its shitty country" defence is a noun and you are trying to use it as a verb. You needed to say "defend its shitty country". You also can't say "its" and "english" you need to say "english person" or "their country" as we are a whole country not just one person. @tyseibert It works the other way around as-well, a lot of American attempts are either ridiculously posh or dick van dyke chimchinmeny cockney. It would be a hard thing it imitate I would reckon as every square mile of England has distinctly different accents. We get overly pissed off if people try and do a posh accent(we hate posh people over here lol) So my advice to anyone attempting is to try a specific regional accent, you will get less abuse if it goes wrong.
@EbsNhexz well I know that's true. I can only attempt to do an english accent for about 2 sentences then I lose it. Not to mention those 2 sentences are probably a mix of an irish scottish australian canadian english accent lol. I've asked many english and australian people to speak in an american accent, and they can't do it either. Not saying only english people can't do an american accent.

@hurro67 Titanic may have been about an irish boat, but the movie is purely america, from director James Cameron, so that doesn't count. Not everyone watches the others you mentioned, however anything with Simen Pegg and Nick Frost in is highly recommended

Nah mate, you're wrong. Though its an American film, it was made to have Britishness in it. Take Priates Of The Caribbean for an example. Jonny Depp...American. Makers are Hollywood. Jonny Depp was actually trainned to speak British accent for that film (he did pretty well in that actually!!). So....The Queen, David Beckam, Manchester United, James Bond....all take Britons to be admired :)

I'm an American and I think the reason we are entertained by other accents is just because it's different. I live in Minnesota and I like to try doing accents which tend to include foreign and domestic accents. For example I will do a scottish accent and then a texan accent then an English accent and then I don't know, a different one lol. I think the reason the tea thing has stayed strong is because of our history, during the revolution we destroyed british stuff...what was it? Tea lol

I don't believe it is only the accent, it may also be the choice of words because many people to whom I speak say I sound intelligent. But who knows. For the longest time I thought it was because I was extremely polite. There are those who will agree that many Americans are less refined than the English. I must say it is pleasing to have people eager to hear one speak, though it can be a bit embarrassing.

Totally Kyle!! Oh, nostalgia... Uhm. Anyway, I'm American, and I like English accents so much because they're different from my own. I think we're all biased against our own accents, because I don't understand the fascination with American accents in much the same way that many English people don't seem to understand the fascination with English accents. We have a natural curiosity about things that are "different", I guess... that's the best reason I can think of.

I've always LOVED British accents :) I guess it's because you sound so much more sophisticated and when you say something bad...it doenst sound all that bad cause it's alll...British XD Gosh, I sound really stupid now, lol. I plan on making a video with my British accent soon though :) I might get all my friends to do it too cause we can these conversations in "British" accents XD

I'm totally with you, I have the same accent and I find it quite boring, I love listening to other accents, say if I go up north or to Wales, I could chat to them all day. I just don't get the whole hooha with our bland southern accent. Get a grip everyone!

Actually British ppl are very good in speking American accent, almost effortless. @tyseibert It works the other way around as-well, a lot of American attempts are either ridiculously posh or dick van dyke chimchinmeny cockney. It would be a hard thing it imitate I would reckon as every square mile of England has distinctly different accents. We get overly pissed off if people try and do a posh accent(we hate posh people over here lol) So my advice to anyone attempting is to try a specific regional accent, you will get less abuse if it goes wrong.

@EbsNhexz well I know that's true. I can only attempt to do an english accent for about 2 sentences then I lose it. Not to mention those 2 sentences are probably a mix of an irish scottish australian canadian english accent lol. I've asked many english and australian people to speak in an american accent, and they can't do it either. Not saying only english people can't do an american accent.

@hurro67 Titanic may have been about an irish boat, but the movie is purely america, from director James Cameron, so that doesn't count. Not everyone watches the others you mentioned, however anything with Simen Pegg and Nick Frost in is highly recommended

Nah mate, you're wrong. Though its an American film, it was made to have Britishness in it. Take Priates Of The Caribbean for an example. Jonny Depp...American. Makers are Hollywood. Jonny Depp was actually trainned to speak British accent for that film (he did pretty well in that actually!!). So....The Queen, David Beckam, Manchester United, James Bond....all take Britons to be admired :)

Well I'm British, but have a 'Janner' accent, so a farmers accent basically. However I have been mistaken as Welsh and American in the past, so mines all over the place!
I love the British accent, I think it's classy. However I must admit I adore Irish accents the most! Not the harsh ones, but the softer sounding ones (:

I'm an American and I think the reason we are entertained by other accents is just because it's different. I live in Minnesota and I like to try doing accents which tend to include foreign and domestic accents. For example I will do a scottish accent and then a texan accent then an English accent and then I don't know, a different one lol. I think the reason the tea thing has stayed strong is because of our history, during the revolution we destroyed british stuff...what was it? Tea lol

I don't believe it is only the accent, it may also be the choice of words because many people to whom I speak say I sound intelligent. But who knows. For the longest time I thought it was because I was extremely polite. There are those who will agree that many Americans are less refined than the English. I must say it is pleasing to have people eager to hear one speak, though it can be a bit embarrassing.
