  • Outstanding toe tapper. What a fun number this is. You just can't sit still.

  • Great!!!!

  • Great mix of sound. I can hear every instrument clear.

  • why does it sound like a Johnny Cash song mixed with Elvis sounding vocals?

  • Because you have no clue what Rockabilly is. Do some homework.

  • Because it does NOT sound like Mozard opera mixed with Britney Spears vocals ;-)))

    Rockabilly for ever! Yeeehaaa!

  • Great!!! Youtube search MANUEL VARGAS (DISCO 45 and VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL) and you will see an honoring to rock and roll music.

  • The sound is great but the show is MISERABLE watch Ray Campi on you Tube for a real Rockabillyshow! Gentlemen MOVE

  • Rockabilly didn't exist as a word until Guy Mitchell cut a song of that name.

It was simply hyperactive country music.Fats Domino once said he considered himself a country singer.

It wasn't till the 70s that the word began to enter the curriculum

  • where did you get that from... o.k. mitchell made a tiny song with that line but he didn't invent this word.I think you re new in rockabilly biz,all I can say is that you've to read about the early days, listen to the artists lyrics at decca & ace like sonny fisher or hal harris, read interviews & docs with them, newspapers & especially concert posters of that time period(!) and you will see, there was the use of the term rockabilly long before -boy- mitchel pipes his song. keep rockin

  • Dick Dale actually coined the term in the late 40's. He played old country and western songs and jazzed them up and called it rockabilly. Or so he claims. I think i believe him.

  • Nonsense. The late 40s? Dude, Dick Dale was born in 1937. And he has nothing to do with Rockabilly.

  • You're plain dumb... The first ones to use term rockabilly were Johnny Burnette & r'n'r trio...

  • I'm just saying what dick dale said in an interview. I wasnt there or anything.

  • no problem... :-)

  • I am a a big fan of the rock and roll trio, best rockabilly group ever, but not the first, nor the first to use the term, they cut there first records in 1956, rockabilly wa a recognized style by late 1954, the trio didn't start until Elvis was on the charts, and they worked at the same electic supply warhouse and tried to get into the music busines, but by the time they got going, rockabilly was being replaced by sedate and polished rock and roll, they never got a top 20 hit, outrageous!

  • where did you get that from... o.k. mitchell made a tiny song with that line but he didn't invent this word.I think you re new in rockabilly biz,all I can say is that you've to read about the early days, listen to the artists lyrics at decca & ace like sonny fisher or hal harris, read interviews & docs with them, newspapers & especially concert posters of that time period(!) and you will see, there was the use of the term rockabilly long before -boy- mitchel pipes his song. keep rockin

  • The word was coined by Tin Pan Alley-simple as that.Guy Mitchell just sang the song.

I think you are new to rockabilly mentioning names of what were no more than regional artists who cashed in on Elvis and Carl Perkins.

As for Fats Domino he was really a country singer.Who said so? HE DID

  • Seen these guys many times, raw rockabilly without a doubt

  • to say roy hogshead and doowop in the same breath as rockabilly need their heads examined, rockabilly is several steps above any of these...and to say that fats domino was rock and roll is an insult to his unique style...the 50s had so many characters all with their own unique styles and Elvis was certainly the most innovative and he imo invented rockabilly by bringing all the elements together, thats what is called progress and invention...roy hogshead, sheesh thats an insult..

  • anyway Elvis wasnt first with Rockabilly

  • rulzzzzz

  • 20 years ago I learned a few things from an old guy who had an F hole guitar like the leads. I'd give my left nard for that old box.

  • Utterly HEP!!!!

  • Great song!

  • just great got any other stuff

  • Wow just great this is real rockabilly, just love it

  • Morris code is the way it is pronouced on the Don Woody original. Nothing overdramatic about it.

  • Lovely sound, brilliant !!

  • This is way way cool... I bet these guys are always getting booked to do gigs..

    Rene - The Blue Cougars

  • I've booked the Skip rats, and they are terific, pull a good crowd too

  • I'm addicted to this song!

  • i think Rockabilly is the origin of all music

  • you mean that all music was made after the 40s? i'm not a music genius but i'm sure there were a few songs before then

  • After the war, country music took influences from swing and created western swing.....then it took influences from the blues and 50's r & b....this became honky tonk and later rockabilly. Rockabilly is a melting pot of musical styles, including hillbilly and cajun. It's real forte was between 1952-57, by 57 it had become popularized and became rock n roll. Thats a bit simplified, but basically what happened.

  • Not excatly..Rock'n'roll came from New Orleans (Fats Domino said in 1955 that Rock'n'roll had been played in NO for a decade).

Rockabilly grew out of Memphis as "the white" rock'n'roll being country based as opposed to black r&b/r&r that was more blues based.

  • Not sure I agree with that. Sam Phillips was recording black r n b and Blues artists ...even some doo wop before 1954, when Elvis walked into the studio. This doesn't take into account performers like Roy Hogshead who was playing this kind of jumped up hillbilly/western swing in 1952!

Who cares...it's a great musical form, arguably America's only hisorical legacy.

  • True that Sam Phillips was recording black artists before Elvis.

Sure there were archeic rockabilly (hillbilly bop) before rockabilly, you mentioned Roy Hogshead, Paul Howard, Chet Atkins..even Bill Haley falls into that category (pre-54, pre Comets).

I define (and many with me) artists such as Carl Perkins (the composer of Blue Suede Shoes), Gene Vincent (Bebopalula), Johnny Cash as rockabilly as opposed to artists like Fats Domino and Little Richard, chuck Berry.

  • I disagree,it's not the origin of blues & R&B.

  • LOL The origin of music is from caveman times!!

  • that's my point

  • Good except for the singers 'overdramatic' singing of "marse code" instead of "morse code". Some attempt at a silly period correct accent maybe?

  • I have booked the Skiprats for one of my gigs, I can assure you that they are a real crowd puller. Top notch rockabilly.

  • These guys played at my wedding night a great time had by all

  • Absolutely wonderful. Very tight. Guitar is magic. Thanx

  • Great rockabilly as it often sounds best....Stripped down to it's elements.

  • Exactly. Purity is so nonexistent in today's music world.

  • This is soooo good. Thanks for posting this terrific video.

  • coolio!

  • check it out :)

  • Great cover of this fabolous rockabilly song, originally recorded for the Decca label by Don Woody. Cheers!!

  • The Skip Rats - Morse Code

  • whos is and whats the name of the song

  • AWSOME!

  • It's a '61 Guild Starfire, played thru a '58 Gibson GA 15 amp,

  • Don Woody if I remember correctly. He recorded a few excellent tracks including "Barking up the wrong tree" and "Bird Dog", as well as "Morse Code". This is a good rendition. The definition of good rockabilly is a bit like good art and you know it when you feel it.

  • The style of this band is definately rockabilly, and to my ear sounds specifically like "western swing" rockabilly. A similar band would be Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys. Anyone disagree?

  • After further thought, I disagree with myself. Western swing has steel pedal added to the rockabilly sound. This is rockabilly in it's original form.

  • Western Swing

  • Western Swing What?

  • don't get silly---the greats like Gene Vincent & Carl Perkins & Buddy Holly, & early Elvis...are hard acts to follow & of course they paved the way...not so hard following along but a lot harder to be the pioneer of it all.

  • I want to download this song! where can I find it?

  • The original was done by a guy called Don Woody in late 1956 on US Decca. Not released though until 1975 on an MCA album called "Rare Rockabilly" MCFM 2697

  • very nice. I love them.

  • This rocks and it is Rockabilly in opposite to crap like Dick Brave.

  • very good!!!

  • I agree with JAustinDuke - too many bands are referred to as "rockabilly" or "rock'n'roll" nowadays without merit.

The Skip Rats, however, are the real deal.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Is the lead guitar an old Gretsch? Guy does a real decent job on it. Who needs Gene Vincent when you got theses guys.

  • yeah, looks like a 50's gretch to me

  • You guys rock

  • I fucking liked it

  • It's the real deal. Yeah.

    RAB RULES!

  • This video brings back mixed memories for me of my aunt Thelma's wedding reception, her husband's (singer/guitarist John Martin) brother was still able to get on stage and keep the place rockin despite my dropping the valve amp - I reckon my guts would have been garters if the valves had been more than shook loose! So keep on rollin guys and thanks for taking me back to my childhood days.
