  • I believe the red-headed lady on the train is the original Lois Lane.

  • fek u

  • its cool and ll that he kicked the ball tht far but.......i really hope it doesnt land in a populated area

  • I really hate people who nark on Smallville, Smallville has nothing to do with these movies, this was Super Man as an Adult Smallville was about Clark turning into Superman, big difference neither weren't mirrored from one another they were their own unique styles, give the show a break besides it was awesome

  • @Eternaldarkness3166 actually Smallville wouldn't have existed if not for the pre-superman scenes in the original movie, besides in smallville the fortress existed before he left, while the movie has it form after he's left

  • It's really weird seeing Lois so young while Clark is 17 years old. Does anyone actually know how old Lois is supposed to be? I always assumed she and Clark were around the same age but I don't think they've ever actually said in anything Superman related. The only time I can recall any mention of her age was in Smallville where it was stated that she was a year older than Clark.

  • i never watched the Smallville shit or any remakes, this Superman was the best and not even the series, just this movie than any effin Spiderman or Batman or whatever Superhero creation

  • 2:43 Girls are not these passive, weak things the media constantly depicts them as. I hate when I'm watching a classic film, and two guys are in a cock-fight, and some dumb girl acts as an innocent bystander. So many young woman wouldn't gravitate towards this jerk. I'm not saying all woman wont, but these girl certainly don't look the type. If Lana was like that, what would Clark see in her? These girls are resemble dumb babies in this scene. Complete with cooing noises and passive expression.

  • For the love of GOD. I can't find their date of birth's anywhere on the internet. Could someone please tell me when they were individually born? Please? Thanks.

  • FAKE N GAY

  • @JudoKickTiger , there is always one moron or a troll in every bunch that says "Fake and gay".

  • @JudoKickTiger REAL AND KICKASS!

  • so luis lane is 7 years old when clark was 18 but in smallville tv series they r all the same age luis, clark and lana, and lana lang also appers as an teen in the first film but in the third one she appears as an adult

  • Wait, the fuck? Lois Lane is like 5 and Clark is....17? Ewwwww

  • i noticed years ago that lis land girl is in the train where superboy man flew or ran by the train idea and the mother of girl lious is the oringal loius lane on cool televsion seris superman and later in tecknpo clour

  • I have a Superman App available from iTunes. Search Jor-Els Wisdom to download it :) oh and the guy who plays young Clark Kent, wasn't he also in The Last StarFighter???

  • hahaha no le creen cuandole dice que corriendo hahahaha pobres diablos los de los 70 , ESOS CARROS CORRIAN A 60 km/H como maximo no jdoas hahahahahaha

  • Pretty cool! One of my friends actually customized an HO-gague model F7 locomotive with that "Kansas Star" paint scheme

  • This is a hell of a way to see your future husband for the first time.

  • wait how old is lois

  • Ever wonder if Clark went insane instead what that jock would look like in the aftermath of that insane rage?

  • this is the best 70s movie

  • I don't know if Jonathan Kent told Clark not to show off, but if you were the coach of the Smallville football squad, wouldn't you make Clark a player? I mean, nobody could catch him OR tackle him. Touchdown every play.

This movie was made when I was 2 or almost 2. I still love it. This one, And Superman II are my favorites.

  • @mrich1976 True but Clark would have spiked the ball after a touchdown and it would have ended up in China. Then Brad would have said, "Way to go Clark. You lost the football, again".

  • i remember watching this movie with my parents when i was 5

    this is awesome

    greatest hero ever

  • this 3 minutes were better than the ten years of Smaville tv serie

  • @ReijiNakashi...No.

  • My favorite part of this part of the movie was the girl's name was Lois Lane!

  • That little girl actually did a decent interpretation of Lois Lane. Haha

  • thing with alot of todays films tho is the storytelling comes second and special affects first so you get alot of pretty crap

  • Lol damn when i was young i used to think this was awesome, now the graphics just seem pathetic to me

  • @afgmuscl3

The visuals were great for their time and their still great now. How good the CGI is has nothing to do with how good the film is. It's still awesome!

  • @afgmuscl3 Todays CGI makes movies look so unrealistic that it looks more like a damn video game. Last 3 Star Wars are a perfect example and I hate it.

  • Kids don't try this at home!

  • golly .. ma ... what is that boy doing out there? lois handed the binocular to her mother ... i guess he's running ... what? he look so retarded .. time for your nap lois ..ah ma ..

  • Chuck Norris can run faster.

  • @starguard

    no no no...

When Chuck Norris runs very fast, he doesn´t move at all.. He spins the earth around very fast! :)

  • @MstoffeM

  • Great, great scene. I really liked the young Lois scene since Noel Neill and Kirk Alyn played Lois' parents on the train.

  • @bk401

What's wrong with it? I kinda like the irony of it.

  • 1:12 - 1:40 i caould watch this all day. :)

  • one thing fur sure they didn't have good editing graphics back then.

  • He runs like qwop.

  • I used to think this was one of the best scenes in the movie. I used to pretend to reenact this scene in my house as a child

  • I read where the actor playing young Clark tore some muscles in his thighs filming that running scene. Ouch.

  • His running was so corny in this movie! LOL I'd prefer seeing jamie summers run over that dorky run!

  • Oh my God, why did Donner include that ridiculous dialogue between Lois and her parents in the directors' cut? It was wisely left out of the original cut. In fact, all of the scenes Donner added in 2000 were wisely left out of the original version.

  • The running scene just kills this video for me. They could of done it better in so many ways. Just speed up the frames per second.

  • @Scorpwanna Clark runs like a retard.

  • Go to your address bar, after the word YOU and before the word TUBE, type in "win" then press enter

  • That was Noel Neill who played Lois lane in the 1950's series with George Reeves as the little girls mother on the train in this scene.

  • It's a bird....It's a plane....NO! it's the movie that made millions of people believe!

  • holy shit, he just pulled a francois steyn!

  • This scene nicely reflects the poignancy of the movie's first third.

  • I just noticed that they dubbed Christopher Reeve's voice for Jeff East except for when he said WOO HOO! when he hoped over the train tracks

  • Why not choose an actor than looks alike Christopher Reeve for Superman teenager? They just look alike at the whites of the eyes XD.

  • Running by a train? Hanging from a rope? That's what my uncle claims.

  • @IHABC8 Your uncle is correct. I have the Superman DVD and that's exactly how they filmed this scene. The actor was hanging from ropes (like a marionette) from a structure with the camera right beside him.

  • Anyone else think this younger version of superman looks like eric crouch? Especially the part where hes running faster then the train.

  • Comment removed

  • @BarReinolds I don't know the name of it, but the composer was John Williams. He also did the music for "Star Wars".

  • @02chevyguy its called "Growing Up, and the themes contained are: the "Superman Theme", and the "Train Motif"

  • Lana could have been the bigger person and stay behind and helped Clark with the equipment. When Clark used his super-speed to outrace the gang on the road, even Lana seemed to think he was a freak, which made Clark even more depressed. Great teenage angst here.

  • Yup that's Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill @1:50. They are the original Superman and Lois Lane from the 1948 movie serial (even before George Reeves).

  • No sabía que la nena era Lois Lane porque en esa escena no lo mostraron en la television.

  • CLARK KENT!! SHAME ON YOU! You should not have fun that way!

  • Dag! He is faster than a speeding bullet! Clark was an outcast...who was destined to become the world's greatest superhero!

  • 2 things. Not sure why Clark got upset since it would have tooken him 2 seconds to clean up the mess. 2nd, would have been funny if the football had landed on Brad's head and knock his block off. One of my top 10 movies of all time.

  • the old miss lane on the train is still hot!

  • Mr. and Mrs. Lane are played by Kirk Alyn and Noel Neill, who played Superman and Lois Lane on the 1950s TV show.

  • @ignoranceandwant George Reeves played Superman in the 1950's Superman TV show...not Kirk Alyn....

  • @ignoranceandwant Actually, this 1978 version features Glenn Ford and Phyllis Thaxter as Jonathan and Martha Kent.

  • Think of all the people he could have killed if he had hit the train. Unresponsible young superman! naughty naughty!!!

  • Heres a thought: Clark is 18 here and lois about 9ish. So when Clark returns in 12years Lois is 21ish, been through college AND established herself as the lead reporter at the worlds biggest newspaper...

Theres talented and then theres just nonsense. Still love the movie though, even though I wanna smack Lois to get her to wheesht!!!

  • Actually, Clark is not yet 18 in this scene. Notice how Ma Kent's hair gets considerably whiter between Pa Kent's funeral (the next scene) and Clark's leaving home scene. There's definitely an unstated time elapse. He's probably supposed to be about 16 in this scene and Lois could be as old as 11. That gives them a believable 5 year age difference - ages 25 and 30 when they meet at the Daily Planet. In the pre-Grad school world of 1970's journalism, Lois could believably be the ace reporter.

  • @brianinlaca i agree and i love who was playing her mom, that's the actress who played lois on the tv show superman with george reeves.

  • @brianinlaca so hwo come in smallville she was in college and clark in high school?

  • Regarding the racing the train effects, I always thought it looked cool. It didn't look completely "real", but neither did half the special effects in 2002's Spider-Man. But the racing effects looked cool. It's different. Usually today they give you a blurring effect, which is really a cheapo cop out. In this case you can actually see Clark running, complete with his shadow on the ground, you can tell they put a lot of effort into the racing scene.

  • I agree with you, gothatway09, I hate that blurring crap they do all the time now

  • Clark racing the train was created by hoisting Jeff East on a cable rig on a truck driving past the train...East said he tore a muscle during filming. The later scene of Clark heading down the road was created simply by filming a motorcycle with a bag of dirt spilling behind it.

  • pello, regarding the black girl with the white kids in 1950s Kansas, keep in mind the movie was made in the late 1970s and I think at that time the filmmakers were probably looking to be inclusive at a time when African Americans were only starting to get equal rights in the last decade. Historically it's far fetched but still plausible. Kansas was a bit away from the racial tension in the south, and perhaps the black girl came from a wealthy family, which would ease the white folks minds.

  • For the record, as of 2009 that ball still hasn't landed

  • 1:17 Clark runs like such a white boy, but he does it with style!

  • LOL !!

  • @phantomlord54 The coach is still mad at whoever stole that ball.

  • @phantomlord54 It was spotted orbiting the moon.

  • @phantomlord54 For the record, as of 2011 that bill still hasn't landed

  • @AfterThisShutUp 2012, still hasn't landed.

  • @MrCure4 it never will !

  • @phantomlord54 It went into orbit

  • @phantomlord54

The PATRIOTS they need this guy. He can kick 100 yard field goals & out run trains.

Tom Brady & Bill Belichick give this man a contract right now.

  • Been after this music since I was a kid. Cant believe its not on the soundtrack. Should just be called 'chasing the train' if it exists. Just makes me wanna run every time I hear it!!

  • It is on the 2001 re-release soundtrack and the 2008 FSM Collection of all four movies. It's called Growing Up.

  • love this scene

  • Definitely one of my favorite scenes as well.

  • The old lady talking to Lois Lane was the original Lois Lane in the 50's. When George Reeves was Superman.

  • Wait, this scene is meant to be showing young Clark Kent in the 50's, so what was that black chic doin with those white people in the car @2:46-2:52, wasn't there racial segregation in the USA at that time?

  • Not in Smallville I guess. lol!

  • did you know that if someone would run that fast their shoes couldnt take that much heat and would be goin sooo fast that the shoes would melt??? Interesting huh!!

  • He must have gone through a lot of shoes than way then huh? lol

  • Superman's powers also protect his clothes and accessories, like when he dives into lava he doesn't emerge naked.

  • running sequence has to be the worst special effects in modern cinema history

    lol

    look at him run

  • OMG! the little girl is Lois Lane! lmao!

  • actualy her parents in that scene are played by Kirk Alyn and Noel Neil, the Superman and Lois Lane of the 1940's Superman serials

  • Crippa come corre vicino alla ferrovia di Melzo!!!

  • I think this scene shows the lonely side of superman, since he was a kid....

He cannot tell everything about himself to his friends.

  • This is incredibly cheesy, but also fucking awesome.

  • Women... they would leave even a Superman, just to get a a man with a good car.

  • Way too cool, Clark Kent sure was having run running past the train and in front of the train. Jeff East was awesome as the young Clark Kent in this film, too bad they did dubbed his voice. I seen Jeff East in some films which are really cool.

  • It´s incredible. I never saw this part with Lois Lane. Luckly the producers never put it in the final movie

  • Yes, that was Noel Neill who was th second Lois Lane in the TV version following Phyllis Coates

  • This Lois Lane bit wasn't in the original release, I recall. All you saw was the girl wathing him run.

  • It's always nice to have polite discussions about moviemaking techniques. I don't understand why so many YouTube posters have to resort to profanity. Have a great day!

  • The dust plumes should've drifted at the same rate as when the car made them. The reason why they're that fast is that an actual runner provided the motion. He had the dust apparatus attached to him.

I think special effects should be flawless, otherwise, what's the point?

  • Whenever I see those wretched effects at 3:05, I lose my willing suspension of disbelief. If nothing better was possible, the story should've been changed. I'm not fond of the superspeed effect at 2:12, either. The dust plumes were drifting way too fast.

  • whoa i wish i could run "A Mil 1000 Hora" just like him!!!

  • spot the cannon under the ground when he kicks the football

  • that was lous dude she was way younger then him

  • it breaks my heart when clarks dad dies. so sad. i cry everytime without fail!

  • I kind of wondered if the actress playing Lois Lane's mother in that scene is the original actress who played the original Lois on the Superman series, she seems to resemble her.

  • Maybe his speed is different from Smallville's Clark's, but I wouldn't say no to this Clark's as well.

  • he's father is always bitching around :( how he shouldn't do this, do that

  • He really looks like Tom Welling when he smiles!

  • hey, great video! i didn't see this movie a long time ago...

do you know what is the track which is playing in Lana's car? This song was also in Home Alone, when Kevin make a "real" party...

if u know the song please write to me, thanks

  • The song is "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and the Comets.

  • The song is "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Hayley and the Comets.

  • It's also funny that Lois Lane is supposed to be younger than Clark (the little girl in the train is she), when it's obvious that Margot Kidder is older than Christopher Reeve.

  • funny, Chris Reeve's did all the vocal overdubs to young Clark Kent
