After many years, I've retired as a teacher. For something to do while retired, I am tutoring and coaching a few people with their ASVAB tests using some of the many books on the subject. I'm thinking of expanding and reaching more motivated people. I'm open to suggests as to how to reach the people who will want my tutoring.
What you say isn't true in all cases. I am a retired teacher and many schools have not covered the basics very well, esp. mathematics knowledge and in arithmetic reasoning. Often, teachers weren't prepared and classes were too large. You are fortunate if your elementary and high school was better funded than most- but obviously, in this exam, 50% is the average. You scored above average due because you were fortunate and had an above average education.
@Amuatur16 I got a 38 tuesday on the asvab "first time i took it" im still pissed i didnt get a 50 or above. i let my friend down... he passed with a 68. i told him im not letting him down though.
The air force requires a 50 on the asvab to join. I scored an 82 overall and qualified for 95% of the jobs what I did though was go into a books a million and I went to the study guide section of the store and bought a study for the asvab test guide and it really helped me to prepare and reteach myself math that I had not used since middle school.

no its not and it is.depends on the person. normally if you pass the non real asvab you will probably pass but what that practice test doesnt include is like the technical questions..its just ask the basics math and english sometimes science. the real asvab has stuff you will never see on the practice.
I was considering ROTC but then again I'll like to probably take so classes on regards to Aerospace or Cyberspace while I'm at it because the ROTC program is for reserve and I'll like to apply for a job once I enlist after going through the BMT and taking the classes or courses they offer!!

I went in the recruiter's office on August 25 and was just going to ask questions but when I walked out I was already scheduled by the recruiter to take the ASVAB and go to MEPS, (how'd that happen? talk about FAST.) So today on 9-9-09 I got my reservation for infantry with an airborne option and a 3 year 21 week commitment. I got take the computer ASVAB tomorrow and the next day MEPS. Wish me luck.

Yes you can take it again. There is no "fail," only a score that is too low for some jobs. However, if you score so low (really low) you might not qualify for any job.
You should not fail the test. If you are interested, buy a practice test book for it online or at your local bookstore.
Think of it this way, someone who is trying to get into college is going to take the SAT's gets a study book. Same for grad school and GRE's. Why not study for the ASVABs?

55 isnt good, it depends what job you are looking for loest i saw was 30 something and that was for SF, highest i saw was a 60 something, and that was for Admin position, 55 is average
your overall score doesnt matter, basically you know how they give you those little sections in the test IE: science math etc.... well those sections are individually scored. so if you had a high general knowledge score.. anywhere from 114 and up, you would have the option of doing SF, see sf isnt just a combat job. you can be an intell analyst and be sf. the lowest you can score on the asvab without needing a waiver is a 31. the highest you can score is a 99. so average is high 60s to low 70s.
a waiver for the military is a piece of paper that says you been approved by the board of the army, if you get a shitty score and fail the asvab you can get a waiver to say that your still eligable to enlist.

you can actually ask to go to school full time, and still be on "active duty" getting E-5 pay...so long as you promise (with a signature) that upon getting your bachelor's degree you'll get your commission and become an officer. Sometimes they let you do ROTC and you can get your commission really quick. you can take ANY major you want
Double post! Yeah you can attend "college" while in the military, however, if you dont want a degree in business management or communications, its rather difficult to go to school. For instance, getting an engineering degree is next to impossible to do while being enlisted because something like that requires an incredible amount of dedication. Military enlisted education programs typically support easier majors and pretend like harder majors arent there.
Doing well on the asvab kinda screws you while youre in the military. Higher asvab scores for the most part, have longer work hours. In the meantime, youll have more skill but get paid the same as a mashed potato scooping services guy. On top of that the mashed potato scooper will be promoted faster because he has less competition. On the outside, a high asvab can do you favors because a better military job looks better on a resume.

states. granting "green card" could take few years am I right? How can I assure the Embassy that I need 'green card' only for the army?

I got 87 on ASVAB. Never studied, haven't been in school for the past year. It's easy.
87 on ASVAB, and over 122 on every line score.
I sucked at tests. I went to summer school for EVERY YEAR in High School.
So if someone is worried about it, it isn't that hard!

ASVAB is not as hard as other people would say it is.
It's basically a test to know WHERE you fit in.
All you need to do to land a nice position is learn MATH and ENGLISH COMPREHENSION.
After that, study whatever else you have trouble with, but Math and English are BIG scores that'll crush your other scores if you fail them.
