  • Brilliant! I have my very first granny square. Excellent tuition, easy to follow, thank you.

  • Nope, it was 4:55

  • Hmm ... I must of missed something cuz my corners were a little rounded than sharp points like yours. I wish you had made this video a little slower like the speed you made Lesson 1 and 2 in.

  • @BlazinRedxDragon Well the stitches are the same as in 1 & 2. The corners are sharp because I tug at them a little.

  • Thank you! I just learned to crochet and I was having trouble understanding what the pattern instructions were telling me to do. First granny square is finished!!!

  • I love how slowly you show how its done on your videos. I have now completed my first granny square myself thanks to you. However I miss your old camera because it was way more clearer. But thanks anyway, and please make videos of how to change colors and sew them all together. =)

  • @Marlean Actually this was camera number 2! Camera number 1 was really fuzzy, so I remade lessons 1 & 2 of this series. so lessons 3 & 4 are older videos with the middle camera!

  • Hi! I just wanted to thank you! Your videos are very easy to follow! My Gramma taught me to crochet years and years ago and I just wanted to get back into it but forgot how! Your videos were the exact right pace and just perfect! Thanks for this!

  • do you have a video that explains how to switch colors inside the three rows?? and do you have to stop after the three rows? these videos are awesome! thank you for posting them

    -California

  • @summertimegurl1 You can keep going making it as large as you like. You change colors the same way for any row. See my video on adding new yarn and changing colors.

  • I took plastic hook son the plane with me just in case but no scissors

  • @roadiemiss You can bring a box of dental floss to cut yarn.

  • Thank you so much for these really helpful instructions!

  • Ths series really helped! I'm so excited to make a whole bunch of granny squares now, hehe!

  • Thankyou very much I will be making mine on a long plane flight. The other video was clearer though. Thanks again

  • @roadiemiss Yes. I know it was made on an older camera. My original of this was REALLY fuzzy.

  • @roadiemiss does TSA allow crochet hooks? I'm going on a plane soon and I couldn't find and confirmation on the site saying I could... Thanks!

  • @VixenVaudevillain I've flown several times with a hook with no problem. Just be sure not to carry scissors.

  • Thank you so much for your videos. This is the first time I actually understand what I'm doing. :-)

  • yea u lost me on this one too

  • @kitkatNEF So, what you need to do is pay attention. Watch the video without distractions through. Then pick up a hook & some yarn and watch again. Pause after each step. Rewind if you need to. Then once you pause, try the stitch. Also, be sure to start with the first video.

  • Omg! can't believe i have actually completed a granny square :)))))))).

Found round three a little harder than the others...and after pulling undone quite a few times,it looks like it should do....i'm so proud of myself...thankyou so much.I am going to watch more of your videos....xx

  • omg i love u !!! i have been sitting around all day following your tutorials, to me they cant be better explained, i was able to c everything perfectly and listen . thank you one billion times. before today i had never touched a crochet hook and im happy w the results. (took me all day cause i have 3 kids , so i oftern have to pause let go n come back ) but i am sooooo happy to have found you , thank you

  • I am doing great on my baby sister's blanket because of this video

  • Thank you so much. I tried watching other videos and after your 1,2,3 granny square vids, I got it! Before this, I only knew how to double crochet. thank you !!

  • Thanks you taught me how to do a grannie sqaure! Today was my first day trying to crochet... I pulled it out a couple of times cause I kept messing up... But I finally got the hang of it :) Thanks for your awesome videos!

  • yours are the best crochet tutorials on youtube! you really take the time to explain and show everything. i had done some sewing before but i think crocheting is more fun! thx!!! :)

  • Yeah!!!!!!!! I did it I made a granny square, Yeah!!!! I am so happy for Youtube and for you being willing to teach a stay at home mother of three, who can not efford classes. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. God Bless You Mrs. Beth

  • so if you continue to do this you can eventually make a huge granny square blanket....right? how many skeins of yarn might that take?

  • @2009mvnu I use 3 7-oz skeins of medium worsted weight yarn to make a lap/baby blanket. I am not sure for larger.

  • Last camera = better. This one is hard to see & hear. Also, I understand that it's the same steps over & over again, but the parts I have difficulty with are finding the correct holes I've made & looping into them to make the shells (which are not NEAR as clean as yours). This is the importance of doing the video slowly, for me. While I've really enjoyed your previous videos, this one is just a little too difficult & now I think I'm starting out w/crocheting on the wrong pattern! =/

  • @Christy1771 This is an older camera. The last two videos are re-makes. You could try the back to basics videos instead. Also, there are other granny square tutorials by other teachers if mine are hard for you to understand. I learned to crochet with this pattern when I was 11 years old.

  • Thank You so much!! I have got it now!! Once I finish my blanket I'll be back to learn something else!!

  • I could follow all your instructions, but I became confused when I did round three. It was not clear to only make 1 shell in the inbetween hole. I was making two shells and it took a while for me to realize I should only make the two shells on the corners. Maybe you could make that point a little clearer. Thanks theltoo2

P.S about what size should the granny square be? 6/15/2011

  • @theltoo2 Thanks for pointing that out. I will add an annotation to the video. The size depends on your gauge. Each person has a personal gauge. If you use baby yarn and a smaller hook it will be much smaller than bulky yarn and a bigger hook. For me using this yarn & hook, 3 rounds are about 4 inches across.

  • Thank you so much for posting these..I never knew how to do a GS! you explain everything really well, and these are now my favorite crochet vids to watch! Thanks again!

  • thankyou for these videos! they've been so helpful. :-)

  • this one is way too fast, I was going along great until this now I'm stuck :(

  • @upbeatdata You do it the same as round 2.

  • You videos on granny square have been SO helpful! Thanks for posting!

  • Thanks .... This video is so helpfull. :-)

  • thank you i love this just did 2 squares 5 x 5 small I know but they look normal you are so kind in you words and teaching just the right speed for a beginner my mom goes fast and yells if you still didn't see it...thanks so much

  • good first 3 videos but too much speed for beginners on the fourth

  • @4swsouthwest well, the fourth has the same stitching as the previous rounds. y the time you get this far you should have the technique down.

  • @4swsouthwest : TOO FAST!!! WE'RE BEGINNERS!

  • @sobermcmac I'm a beginner too, just pause or rewind & repeat to follow :-))

  • These videos have made it so easy to jump right into crocheting! :) Thank you!

  • Woohoo!! Thanks for these videos i've just completed my first square! i intend to make a blanket for my son.... its soo much quicker than knitting XX

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!! these were the only videos that really helped me!

  • you have taught me to make my first granny square ever thank you so so much!! =))

  • mine isn't looking like a square, its round...is this bad. Im using a hook 5. I think is still look okay just not as uniformed as yours....jejeje

  • Thanks for the video on making a granny square. However can this pattern be used to make a shawl or wrap? I considrer myself a beginner. I have not crocheted in years the last thing I crocheted was a plant hanger.

  • @superwoman1955 You can make anything you want! Make several squares and join them together to form a long rectangle to make a granny wrap.

  • I noticed when you said one single chain, it looked like you did two, and when you were doing the doubles it looked like you did a double and then 2 singles or something, all of this happened before 1:00... just to clarify... were you just missing catching the string on the hook, or were you doing different stitches than what you were saying. at first i thought your voice was different than the fingers, but i kept pausing it and i think maybe you just kept missing because you were working fast?

  • @oaney I dropped the loop, so it was just a chain 1. It's like the previous rounds. Chain 1 in the sides and 2 in the corners between shells. I am working faster on this round because it's the same as the previous rounds.

  • I can't find the videos 1 and 2 on your site here, are they called something different ?

  • @cs9295 They are there. I'll put an annotation to the playlist.

  • @Bethintx1 thank you for responding so quickly but I am not sure what you mean by putting an annotation to the playlist? Used to crochet 30 yrs ago and just recently picked it back up and boy have I ever forgot alot. It's not like riding a bike, lol.

  • @cs9295 when you watch this video a little box appears in the top left corner. Click on it. the videos that teach how to crochet a granny square comes up.

  • I forgot to chain 3 in the begginging of the first round because I was trying to do it from memory. When i got to round two and you said chain 3 i remembered. I was lazy, so decided to just let it go. Will it impact the look when it's finished? I have been doing the chain 3 since the sencond row.

  • @wutevrasif As long as you have the correct number of 3-double crochet groups on each side, it should be fine. lay it flat and look. is it square? That will help you determine if you want to frog it out or leave it be.

  • can you use different colors for the rounds

  • @LEFTBEHINDTHEKIDSFAN Absolutely! See the video on changing colors.

  • wooooooooow! i learned how to hold yarn and needle (properly) and crochet in less than 48 hours!

  • Thank you so much!! I just can't believe that I could crochet a granny square! And it's because of your so well explained videos ;) I'll keep on improving and learning! Thanks again, indeed :)

  • thanks, without this i cant pass any projects

  • Thank you so much for these videos. I learned to crochet as a child but haven't done so in years. Recently I acquired a laundry basket full of different yarns and just had to relearn!

  • omg, seriously, i decided to pick up this skill yesterday and because of you, I now have a square the size of a rug. ty so much. automatic subscriber

  • Even though I some how messed up making my granny square I had fun. At least it turned out square just does not look very even so I am going to go back over each step again and try once again. But I guess its not bad for trying for the first time. Thank you so much for the instruction video's and yes this video was so much more clearer then they previous ones.

  • thanks so much!!! i learned a lot through your videos and i now can make something to be proud of. even though it was something small but i learned something new =)

  • thanks so much for these videos! i can finally make something! lol

  • Bless you! My own granny tried to teach me to crochet and all I learned was the chain stitch (mind you, I was only 7). You have taught me how to make a granny square! Thank you -- your videos are fantastic!

  • thanx i watched most of the videoes and i found them realy helpfull i want to buy the things and have a goo !

  • I have never left a comment on any website ever, but I have to just tell you that I think you should quit whatever job you may have and teach crochet for a living! I got a small, used beninger kit at Goodwill the other day and have been using your videos to make my very own granny square. I wish I could post a picture of the results of your great lessons!

  • Thank you! I would love to see a picture! You could make a slide show and post it here, or post it on a free photo hosting site (like photobucket) and put a link in the comments.

  • Thank you for this video, I've been learning how to crochet and this vid cleared up alot about this granny square for me.

  • You're welcome!

  • Thank you so much for the video. I've NEVER crocheted before - nothing beyond the chain. I just made a granny square, thanks to you. THANKYOU!!

  • Awesome!

  • Oh thank you so much ..at last it makes sense to me. I have just made my very first granny square. It's not as good as yours but it's a start. Thank you so much xx

  • You are welcome! I'm glad to know my videos are helping!

  • too fast

  • Sorry about that!

I went a bit faster on this because It's almost the same as the previous videos. You can pause the video if you are working along with me.

  • This video is great and its helped me so much the only question I have is, do i continue to flip my pattern back and forth everytime I do a new row?

  • In this case, yes. But...many people make their squares with all the stitches facing the same side to make a right & wrong side. The wonderful thing about crochet is that you can make it your own. So do what you want to do!

  • wow. thanks! im gonna make a blankie

    :)

  • OOPS! I made a mistake! can you see it?!

  • a mistake?what is it?

  • One of the shells only has two double crochet stitches instead of three.

  • I didn't notice it until you pointed it out, and even then, I had to look very carefully to find it. It looks wonderful anyway!
