In 2002 I lived in Toronto and was in an internet cafe on Yonge one day. As I was signing in at the front I glanced at the woman sitting at the PC near the door. I said to myself, "That's Jackie Burroughs!" Later, I quietly confirmed it with the manager when I was sitting at my PC at the back. Then he disappears. A few minutes I look up and he is coming back with her. She holds out her hand. "Hi, I'm Jackie Burroughs.". I introduce myself, we shake hands and then she leaves. Done in 10 seconds!

I was surprised to learn that she was only 44 (only 4 years older that Cristopher Walken) when she starred in The Dead Zone.

Thanks so much for this! It is very sad that Jackie Burroughs has passed, but what a talent! Her performance as Aunt Hetty made her one of my favorite actresses, period. When one takes a look at some of her other characterizations, amazing in breadth and contrast to that P. E. I. school marm, her talent is all the more bold, spectacular, and resonant. Some of this rare archival footage as a tribute to Jackie makes one want the CBC to broadcast a Jackie Burroughs marathon! It's gotta happen.
