  • nascar racing at its best....a long time ago...

  • nerves of steel! miss the pack racing.

  • I was at this race

  • Talladega = Chevy's house.

  • That five wide moment coming to the checkered flag was fucking NUTS!

  • This is the most excellent display of stock car driving I have EVER seen. So much car control in the back to not break out in to a 20 car wreck. Phenomenal.

  • YEY!! let's watch people go round a boring circle track all day... Sounds like the most pointless thing in the world to me.

  • @xJCooksonx That's the same thing with me and soccer! :D Let's watch a bunch of guys running around kicking a ball all day.

  • @xJCooksonx Bet u don't have the balls to wheel a car like that either

  • @xJCooksonx To 75 million people. your comment is the most pointless thing in the world to them. Go gather up with your fatass buddies and chase a cheesburger like its a football.

  • Fuck tandem racing, this was REAL WHITEKNUCKLE RACING.

  • Who got 3rd? lol

  • @shinumaruX busch

  • Jason Leffler, Andy Houston, Ricky Craven, Dale Jarrett, and Sterling Marlin going 5 wide made this race exciting for a great finish in the mid-pack!

  • congrats to hamilton!

  • This was an awesome finish! R.I.P. Bobby Hamilton! Five wide at the line! Amazing that noone crashed!

  • ya true, 2001 was great, except for Dale Earnahrdt....

NASCAR will never be the same without :(

  • R.I.P Bobby Hamilton

  • @Haibig1 aww I didnt know he was gone :(

  • Thats when racing was racing

  • @bnbfalcon you must be talking about before the restrictor plates... cuz this was just artificially created pack racing

  • man, 2001 was a great year in racing

  • @tampabaybucs7 Almost.....Don't forget what happend 499.5 miles in to the season.....We lost Dale Earnhardt

  • It just goes to show, you don't need cautions for an awesome race and finish.

  • did anybody notice them go 6 wide through the trioval in the back of the pack on the last lap?

  • 2001 was a great year and now its all just shit..

  • @DialgaRules24 tht was a horrible year asshole

  • @ryannewman4life1 i get it. Dale died. i was talking about the racing, fucking tard. i was a huge Earnhardt fan and i was devastated when he died.

  • @DialgaRules24 im sorry u never said in racing i thought you meant in general my bad i flew of the handle

  • @DialgaRules24 Best year ever! :D

  • @timr387 DEFINITELY BEST YEAR EVER! GORDON GETTING CHAMPIONSHIP NUMBER 4!!

  • @dlwile33 uh, i didnt mean that! -_- lol JK!! Gordon is a GREAT driver, i just dont follow him, but everytime i try and forget him , Mike Joy, Larry Mcreynolds, Darrel Waltrip say: Ooooh, there goes Gordon! he's got the leeeaaad!! Xd gORDON CAN NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! :D

  • Nascar needs bring back the roof fin and this aero package.

  • Remember when NASCAR could actually have a superspeedway finish like that without 15 cars wrecking coming out of Turn Four?

  • Raceing ended when they passed that stupid rule that you cant go below the inside line.Only reason they did that was cause dale passed elliot that way in a race and it pissed ford off. Ford had a big advert program with elliot and dale ruined it .Ford had millions on it and could not beat Dale in the Wrangler car. More or less Dale pissed in Fords wheaties.

  • @worseto dude they made that rule in 2003, mainly because of the wreck that Gordon caused in the Daytona 500 of 2002. That same wreck that led to Sterling Marlin pulling on the fender under the red flag.

  • @kharvrules29 NO... they made that rule in 2001. Remember.... Tony Stewart was penalized in the 2001 Pepsi 400 for passing below the yellow. 2003 was when they started to fool around with it and caused all this confusion that led to Regan Smith's penalization

  • @kharvrules29 cry cry cry

  • I miss Bobby man. NASCAR just isn't the same these days. I don't even watch the races today, but I love getting my nostalgia kicks by going up here and looking at the old races.

1991-2003 was the glory years of NASCAR.

  • THE UNDERDOG WINS, RIP Bobby!

  • Underdog? lol

  • great finish!

  • This was one of the most boring Dega races ever. Not even a car spun the whole time.

  • @Railer61 Youre insane. This was the BEST Dega race ever. Just because there were no wrecks doesnt mean it wasnt exciting.

  • @Railer61 your not a race fan your a wreck fan

  • 4-5 wide much?

  • the COT sucks

  • they were still bunched up despite there being no cautions. wow.

  • 3 rows of 5 wide going about 200 mhp... no biggy

  • i miss the old nascar days wish they wuld bring them back

  • Fox 41! I'm from Louisville

  • For the longest time, Bobby Hamilton was my favorite driver. Sure, he didn't win all the time, but he had some good runs. This was the greatest win that I saw him get just because it was the last one I saw before I stopped watching NASCAR and before he passed away. RIP Bobby.

  • 1:39 You can see a couple of drivers going 5 wide behind.

That's how great racing at Talladega is!

  • 1:43 Amazing racing at Dega...And i'm sure without the yellow line rule, we would have more exciting finishes...

  • And to think that in those days you could have a team with two veterans like Joe Nemechek and Bobby Hamilton and go far. Nowadays you need a polished kid like Carl Edwards with an off-track personality to get sponsorship so you can race.

  • make racing in nascar better? Throw out all of the rules except for double-file restarts and the wave around, and throw in all the rules from 2001. BAM! racings a hell of a lot better, more fans, higher tv ratings, more races sold out = money.

  • how an the hell culd they run like that if that happened today well they cant even make it 2 wide barely

  • They NEED to get rid of that yellow line rule. In my opinion that ruined some GREAT racing at Daytona and Talledaga.

  • holy crap they were like 7 wide at the end :) sweet

  • 4th-25th = everyone......

  • 2 more laps and Bobby Labonte wouldve won it

  • :P this is the wrong one I was looking for

  • R.I.P. Bobby Halmiton :(

  • I remember saying the whole time no way are they going caution free. They race this race CAUTION FREE yet go and implement the yellow line rule to stop crashes, Nascar has gone to shit and its ridiculous. This proves everything was fine...too many people whining like girls ruined it...

  • I agree to an extent. Like Talladega in 2009. Keselowski was gonna win. If he had been able to go onto the apron, he would've passed edwards anyway and won, Edwards would've gotten 2nd. But instead Keselowski has to hold his ground at the line, and Edwards does his best Bobby Allison impression because of it.

  • @CobraPS3 actually the yellow line rule was implemented in 1999 at talladega when mike skinner and tony stewart went below the line into the grass and slid up into traffic causing the big one. now it's ruined some great racing

  • the old cars with the wicker on the roof stacked them up 43 deep for 500 miles. Why did Nascar ruin that?

  • drivers complained about the closing rates, then nascar puts them on the nationwide cars a couple years later lol.

  • @bamaangler83 because the driver complained about the closing rate and the leader was a sitting duck. Then nascar puts them on the nationwide cars.

  • @bamaangler83 money

  • @bamaangler83 They fixed it this year though.

  • @bamaangler83

yeah but that's not racing and they don't do that anymore drivers are smarter. They just stay single file the whole damn race until it's 20 to go. If anything blame the drivers not nascar. They determine how good the show will be. if they all decide to stay single file there is nothing nascar can do and they can't. That's why they are letting these guys bump draft at 200+ these days b/c that's what the drivers want and tbh it's pretty good racing.

  • @bamaangler83 It was the best racing we had, but safety is why they ruined it. Everyone loves these big packs, but if we can reduce the number of flipping cars and endangered lives, then I think it's better to keep packs a bit smaller.

  • @bamaangler83 Wicker?

  • @bamaangler83, Nascar had a dilemma. Keep Daytona and Talladega races like this and let the other 32 races remain boring as hell or improve the racing overall and sacrifice a little of that Daytona-Talladega magic. That was the dilemma with the new cars on newly paved Daytona and Talladega.

  • @bamaangler83

a better question is, why did they kill the speed?

  • At 2005 or 2006 all this racing went away.

  • the new cars look streetish O.o and nascar has overtime xD wow

  • i was at that race and it was one of the most exciting things i have ever seen

  • now thats the best talladega ever, proberty will never see that again!

  • imagine if dale sr was still around and was in this race. he would have had a field day slicing through all those cars with a few laps left to get another win. and yes, he would have won.

  • wow dale jr was doing great when they were geting ready for the final lap but he has one 5 times at talladega.

  • GREAT RACING!

  • I loved and miss Bobby Hamilton!!

He truly won that race, beat Stewart fair that day. I'm a Tony fan but that was a great race.

I like how after the race he sat down on the ground up against the car and made them wait a minute while he rested from the caution free thriller he had just completed!

  • I remember watching this race. I was initially pissed Stewart didn't win this but now I think it's OK that Bobby Sr took it. Mike McLaughlin won the busch series event at dega the day B4 this...

  • I remember watching this race when I was only 4 years old. It was the coolest thing for me to see them all "slicing and dicing" around the race track. This was probably the one race that made me a permanent fan.

  • its sad, but this racing will be over soon....

  • im a stewart fan and he is the shit at talladega but gets fucked every race on the last lap

  • Tony got fucked? How? I saw the race, I've seen the video, how did Tony get fucked?

  • i mean like he always dominates there and then always gets passed on the last lap

  • @THEKIDWHOWILLKICKURA

    Tell that to Regan Smith.

  • i love bobby hamilton i miss him

  • they dont race like that anymore, i wish they still did

  • Comment removed

  • this race had no crashes in it?

  • nope....i was there...not one caution. It was unreal how they stayed bunched up all day with no cautions....awesome race too.

  • how many restrictor plate races has Tony almost won?

  • bout 10-15 lol

  • 6 or 7

  • I don't know but he still "technically" has ever won a plate race.

  • at least somebody good won that race. idc if it was dale jr michael or tony

  • the cot made the aarons 499 good

  • RIP Bobby, great finish, probablly one of my favorite finishes ever. Good, clean, hard racing. I want to see this kind of racing all day, not the big pile ups taking out good cars. Great job by all drivers on that day.

  • See that's what I love about Talladega; anyone can win!

No disrespect intended to Bobby Hamilton (RIP) but I mean, it's not like he was driving for a top tier team or something.

  • Well, I think it's the only place a driver can show he's truely good, no matter how suckish of a race team he drives for. 'Course, even though it's the only place just about anybody can win, it's also the place anybody can lose. It's definetly a mix of skill and luck.

  • Agreed. Either way, it is definitely one hell of a track!

  • Agreed. Talladega is my favorite track. No place I'd love to watch, or race at- if I could- more. I had mixed feelings at the Aaron's 499 finish, this year. I was happy for Keselowski, while I also felt bad for Carl.

  • I would love to drive an open-wheel car there, if I could as well, lol.

I was really stoked for Keselowski. I think the one track I might like more is Bristol. But 'Dega is way up there for me too.

  • Oh I don't blame you. I liked the old Bristol, better, though. Now you don't see as much bupin' and bangin'. I also love Daytona. It's weird, 'cause my favorite track's Talladega, but my favorite race is the Daytona 500.

  • Well how can you not love the Daytona 500?? It's totally a spectacle!!

And I agree about the old Bristol. I love Atlanta too. I liked the old track a lot because it was unique, but I love how they hit 200mph there now.

  • Yes. The faster, the better.

  • I would love to see open wheel cars race at Atlanta too.

  • They'd need to resrict the engine.

  • You think so?? I mean, they used to do 240+ at Michigan and California with no problems. Although I suppose the g-forces would be more intense at Atlanta.

  • Plus, I think they'd back off a little going into the corners at Michigan and Auto Club, 'cause they're flatter. Atlanta would definetly be a restrictor plate track in F1 or Indycar. Although, I think the IRL races at Texas. I overheard Danica Patrick talking about it to Dale Jr. the one time, when they were jokingly talking about the possibilities of swithching rides. She said how Texas'd be easy. Speaking of which, did you hear she might be in NASCAR next year?

  • Well I know they used to always run flat out at Michigan. And I've never heard of any open wheel cars even using restrictor plates.

I did hear about Danica considering NASCAR, but I think that would be a huge adjustment, and I'm not sure it would be in her best interest. I would like to see her in a Ganassi team Indy Car.

  • You never know. She might be good, she might be bad. It's hard to tell, but with the way Juan Montoya's adapted, I think she'll do great in the long run. She'll just have to run for a good team, but she is going to SHR, so I think she'll find early success.

  • I'm honestly amazed at the success SHR has had this year. I figured Tony Stewart would maybe contend for a Chase spot at best, but WOW!!

I'm interested to see how she does in Nationwide, although with her running a limited schedule and still doing IndyCars, she may not do as well in either series next year. But at least she's guaranteed sponsorship, lol.

  • I definetly see her winning the Indy 500, though. BTW, I had to change my account 'cause I tried to log into my old one, and I can't get in. My password's now too short.

  • I see her winning the Indy 500 as well. I think she could have won it a couple of different times now. She'll get it eventually. As long as her transition into NASCAR doesn't cause her to lose focus on Indy.

  • Yeah, she will get the Indy 500. But you know something? She could make racing history as the first woman to win the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500, if she eventually gets to cup!

  • She very well could!! I would love to see it too. And if she goes to Cup with SHR it will be a possibility.

  • Definetly. She's already my favorite IRL driver. If she goes into NASCAR, she'll already be in my top 3 favorites. Probably #2. IDK why. I guess when I saw her almost win the Indy 500 in her rookie season, I was really impressed. Plus, DAMN SHE"S HOT!!!

  • You know who else almost won the Indy 500 as a rookie and at a MUCH younger age and on a photo finish? Her teammate, Marco Andretti.

  • Yeah, I remember that. I think she's still more than capable of winning the Indy 500.

  • I'm guessing your talking about Danica? I'm thinking that shouldn't go to NASCAR until she wins the championship and the Indy 500

  • Well, that's why she's just starting as a part-time Nationwide series driver, and not being a total dumbass going straight into cup. The only person who's enjoying success from that move is Juan Montoya. Sam Hornish and Patrick Carpentier pretty much ruined their racing careers going straight to the big time when they weren't ready.

  • It definitely hurt Carpentier's chances but now Sam is getting alot better

  • True, true. Still, he's still yet to set the world on fire like he was in Indycar.

  • You forgot Dario Franchitti and AJ Allmendinger.

Both who are far better IndyCar drivers than Danica is.

  • Dario Franchitti, definetly. AJ Allmendinger, well, he's actually getting better. He couldn't do nothing with Red Bull Racing, 'cause Brian Vickers is FAR better, but you're right. I didn't know AJ drove open-wheel, though!

  • Allmendinger and Bourdais were the class of ChampCar...

AJ going to NASCAR and Bourdais going to Formula 1 spelled the end of ChampCar and caused them to desperately reunite with the IRL.

AJ put himself in a bad situation with Red Bull. A cup rookie with a BRAND NEW team. Even Vickers missed many races in '07. AJ is probably a better natural talent than Vickers overall but Vickers has experience...but many AJ ina Champ Car was amazing to watch...just watch, he'll get much better in Cup soon.

  • Yeah, true. He's gonna get better, for sure. I don't think he'll be Cup champ, but if he can keep working hard, he could make the chase once.

  • i know that nascar wants to make it more safe but the cars make the races boring its why not as many people watch the races

  • Bobby Hamilton Rest in peace my friend

  • I have his autograph along with all his crew members, its kinda sad to look at that signature though

  • Awesome race! Bobby Hamilton was great. I loved that paint scheme, too. Too bad Andy Petree racing folded. They had two wins in 2001 (Nemechek won at Rockingham).

  • yeah, NASCAR isn't as exciting as it once was

  • Did you guys see this years Talladega race? I hate how the COT cars can pull away when 2 cars push each other it is faster than a 15 car draft. This years race to me was garbage.

  • I'm sure that this was the last caution-less race, tell me if I'm wrong

  • I think they had one in 2003, but I'm not sure

  • No.

  • 2002 Ea Sports 500 was the final caution free race.

  • Well, there was on talladega I believe the 2002 Ea Sports 500, but its incredible that these caution free races took place at talladega, I don't know how the drivers did it.

  • I miss Races like this Where Everyone has a Shot On the last lap

  • I hear ya

  • See Bobby Labonte go like from 18th to 4 wide for 3rd lol

  • One of the greatest finishes ever. Back when the yellow line didn't matter

  • My dad loved Hamilton, we were shouting at the screen when we saw this. RIP Bobby, I only found out about his death several months ago, was shocked.

  • i know what you mean, they didn't give much attention to Bobby's death or Benny Pearson as well. i did'nt know about his death until they gave a "brief" comment about it at the Daytona 500

  • good thing that wasn't the coming to the white flag lap at the end because they were 4 by 5 by 4 by 5 at the end

  • u get the post race on nascar do u want to post it i have it

  • im a huge tony stewart fan, looking back on this race im glad bobby won, R.I.P bobby hamilton. Its AMAZING this race was caution free.

  • Dang, I loved Bobby...listen to Andy Petree on the radio: YES!!!!!!!! APR!!!!!! Then he jumped on the car...awesome moment.

  • unfortunately???? dude tony stewart has won so many races... Bobby was my favorite. I sure miss him a lot.

  • RIP bobby, my 2nd favorite driver ever.

  • man its awesome how tight the pack was considering there were no cautions

  • Can't wait until next week! 40 years of amazing years of racing at Talladega.

  • good finish.was this really cautionless

  • i miss the old car

  • sory about what i said about bobby hamilton.

  • oh yea now i see how it would be a great finish now. i forgot about how hamilton didn't make it because of head and neck cancer.

  • Bobby Hamilton is dead too asshole. Go Bobby, RIP

  • Its always great to see an underdog win, come on.

  • It's a great finish; would've been better with dale earnhardtsr in it =[

    r.i.p. dale

  • r. i. p. bobby

  • amen

  • this was the best race i ever went to. i even saved the newspaper with the big picture of the winner and laminated it. RIP Bobby

  • so in the 2001 Talladega 500 there was no cautions? or what?

  • That's correct. The race featured zero cautions and had an average speed of 183-4 mph. When Bobby Hamilton was in victory lane, he had to take some oxygen in before he could give an interview because he was exhausted from all of the three-four wide racing.

  • oh ok

  • Wasn't there also a cation-less race in the 90's that Mark Martin won?

  • Yep. It was the '97 spring race. It currently holds the record for the fastest NASCAR Winston Cup points-paying race ever run.

  • Also the fall race in 2002 was cautionless.

  • The spring race in 1997 was caution-less.

  • Agreed, 2001 was a great year, minus Earnhardt's death, of course. I'd have to say 2003 was a great year too.

  • Before Nextel Cup, every year was a great year.

  • I thought the 2005 season was pretty exciting.
