  • I love EVH, but PK was getting that sound 10 years before Eddie picked up a guitar.

  • Amazing!

  • What a solo!

You've gotta check out the guys backing him up though. That drummer is pounding his heart out and that bass line is locking down very nicely :D

  • Wow! That's the Keaggy I remember! Got the whole song from this era somewhere??

    I love it!

    Timeless!!

  • @66LifesMistress77 Yes, it is from a DVD (LIVE CIRCA '72) with the whole concert+interviews...

  • had the pleasure of seeing him twice, years ago and was treated to an amazing feat of musical aerobics.

met him afterward too, what a humble man.

absolutely does not take himself too serious.

    thanks for posting this.

  • Yeah - honestly - who else was playing like this in '72? Tommy Bolin? Roy Buchanan? Mike Bloomfield? I dunno. Phil seemed like he was near the top of the class then, for sure. And he's still got it! Really great footage of an often over-looked fab guitarist.

  • No one is showing how to play this music. Too bad it costs so much to get the tabs for this, be a Christian etc. I'll just have to backslide into learning Jimi's Little Wing.

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing.

  • talent aside, you have to admire phill playing a guitar that weighs half as much as he does.

  • this guys a beast

  • great playing!

  • The guitar sounds so regal at 1:10

  • A++

  • lol Keaggy looks like one of the Beatles! His electric and acoustic playing is killer. It sounds like no matter what instrument God willed him to pick up, he would sound the same. Just as amazing and brilliant. God bless. : )

  • Shredding in '72!!! Awesome!!!

  • i think this is the best video of theirs i'v seen so far and i think phil should sing for them on all the songs.

  • Phil is is more consistant live, has better technique, and is more versitile than either Page or Hendrix, but both of them have written more original part than Keaggy.

  • during the set break, he replaces horse's shoe and assists a cow in giving birth

  • he looks like he might put the guitar down at any second and pick up a hoe.

  • CHronic man, so true. "They will know we are christians by our love." good ol Christian lyrics =)

  • I love the old They will know we are christians lick in there... so good!

  • @chronicmango thanks for naming that lick for me, I've been trying to figure that out!

  • Comment removed

  • jimi never said that. it's a lie.

  • it's still and urban myth. hendrix died in 1970 before Glass Harp had hardly recorded a thing. even Phil has said that he doubts hendrix had clue who Phil Kaggy was. you were PK's bud- lol-

  • Phil had great technique and that's his strongest point- his weakest point is his lack of originality. Copped a whole lot from Bloomfields' 'Another Country"- which was truely original and brilliant.

  • Let's face it, too, Keaggy is still alive and kickin' quite well for his age..... Oh, and he'll probably be playing for the King of kings in eternity....

  • not enough Keaggy electric guitar footage

  • great solo

  • this guy?? ur a fucking idiot shmukk

  • praise GOD that we got pretty good christian guitarists. I use to be really disgusted with christian music because of its repetiveness and just no place for good guitarists, but ive discovered this guy and johnny lang. keaggy rocks

  • The sound at 2:05 is where it's at!

  • Dude, is Phil sweep picking at 0:53??? Way back then??? Geeez, he was so far ahead of his time. It's a disgrace that he doesn't get the acclaim that is due him., primarily because of his beliefs. And that's just not right.

  • no its more of a hammer on pull off thing

  • That's not sweeping.

  • Hendrix and Page did stuff like that back then

  • Um....no. They didn't.

  • listen to "Red House" by Hendrix and "Heartbreaker" by Led Zeppelin

    both feature similar little runs

  • Dude, I'm not trying to sound like an arrogant arse, but I really can play most of that Page and Hendrix stuff and trust me...Page nor Hendrix was as accomplished as Phil Keaggy. Phil remains one of the greatest electric guitarists to this day.

  • I wasn't saying they were better or worse I was saying that they did a little run like at 0:53 in at least one of their songs

  • thank God for les paul guitars!!! by the way, keaggy iz a frikkin' GENIUS!!!!

  • somewhat unknown to mainstream audiences i consider phil keaggy the equal if not better than more well known names like clapton, page, beck etc, his song "time" must surely rate as one of the greatest songs ever.

  • Greene you should hear the How the West was One version of Time as well as Rejoice on the said album

  • The How the West was One was the first Christian album I really liked! Amazing!

  • uh - no way. He is good but not even close to those guys in original talent back then. Every lick he is playing here is a derivative lick lifted from others. Not trashing him. He is great and was good but let's not get carried away.

  • Wow, I had never seen this, is this available anywhere, I'd love to see all of it!

  • Dear non-christian friends,I upload this song, because I like it.AND I think there are many low-quality christian music, BUT this band is very GOOD!They show me that chtristians can perform as good music as non-christin musicians. You don't believe that GOD is a LIVING and LOVING GOD but I have to tell you that christians are the same as you. We have the same problems, same feelings, same pains, BUT we believe we are living becouse there IS God,who has a good plan for US. US is including YOU 2!

  • very good editing, here - very interesting and precise - i like it!

  • Thank youu! Me 2!

  • Thank you for posting such rare footage!

  • You are very very wellcome!

  • amen dude im a christian too i go to greg lories church and we should care

  • Yeah, Christians are so dumb. Don't they know that when you use a gutter/sexual reference, you're REALLY talking about musical trancendence? How do they always miss that?

You make us laugh too, my friend, but I'm afraid everyone is laughing AT you, not WITH you.

  • and I should care because?????? My salvation is not based on whether I use the word hard on

  • dude shut up man you dont have the brains god gave a muscrat

  • I have Jesus my friend. I was talking about how emotional and exciting the music is, you missed my point completely

Wow I guess to you I am a sinner because I used "code words" that apparently a Christian shouldn't use.

    You make me laugh

  • can the person who uploaded this also upload Song of Hope on here too????

  • Sadly I think Phill has to get his money, so enyone can buy this fantastic DVD :) Sorry

  • My favorite elongated version of CYSM is the one they did for KSAN radio

that concert is available for download on the web at Rapidshare

  • Christian or not this piece right here gives me a hard on hehehehe

  • you need Jesus.

  • yep',...and John S.,(the drummer is no slouch either!), his technique reminds me of Ginger Baker,...clean and counter jazzy!

  • when someone like paul mcartny says that phil is the best guitarists in the world, that is saying alot.and he is from ohio, just like rick derringer.praise the LORD that satan doesn't have all of the guitarists.

  • You are an idiot, please refrain from posting further nonsense.

  • @thunderstick1968 But why would Satan 'own' anybody simply because they play guitar?

  • Hendrix really has nothing on this guy.

  • Anyone that played rock guitar back then more

than likely was influinced by hendrix..Phill keaggy

play's acoustic a lot...I believe he listend to axis bold as love..Hendrix had rhythem and blues and

and some mowtown to to work with..Not a lot"Axis

is kind of a bible for chordal frazing"s on acoustic..I know you didn't ask....

  • I've heard what a great guitarist Phil Keaggy is and this is the first time I've seen him from the early days. WOW! Impressive!

  • If this is '72 then it must have been not long after Phil left the Glass Harp to go solo. I believe when I saw the Glass Harp over the 4th in '72 that Phil had already left the band...but it could have been '73, so I might be a year off - LOL. writeroffthelake at geneva-on-the-lake (ohio)

  • I saw Phil for the first time as the brand new lead guitarist for the Christian group Love Song. He had just left GH and released his new solo LP What A Day. I believe it was 1973, but I might be a year off myself.

  • Phil was just a kid- and so far ahead of what was going on in CCM! OK, so how about a "dream team" concert of Glass Harp, Phil Driscoll, Bryan Duncan and Terry Scott Taylor! The world has no idea what it has been missing.

  • I think Phil is the best all around guitarist. I think if he wanted to he could be the master of any one style, not to say he isn't. I believe most of his skill and ability is from God. In other words I don't think he has had to practice like a slave to get where he's at...

  • wow man...

  • I'm glad this was put on here. I never have liked hearing claims by different folks over who "the best guitarist." The fact is there are too many different styles and types of guitars, I will say Mr. Keaggy is a very skilled & entertaining player/performer. I've seen him play acoustic, but think his scales and everything come across best on loud electric. He's a fellow K.C. artist, & I like that he's tried to be on the right side of spiritual things, yet doesn't seem too preachy-at the same time.

  • saw Glass Harp reunion concert last night it was phenominal and i also got to meet Phil Keaggy, shake his hand, and had the pleasure to talk to him. he is not only a the best guitarist in the world but a cool guy too.

  • A VERY good elaboration on an already great song (or two songs). Keaggy is my favorite guitarist.

  • keaggy was so beyond all the rest it isn't even funny...and he's better now!!!! only ty tabor comes close today

  • This is part of the Glass Harp song "Can You See Me". They would often put parts of different songs together in the middle of this tune. The live version of "Can You See Me" which can be found on "Live From Carnegie Hall" lasts thirty minutes. The final chorus can be heard on this video.

  • WHOA! This is m firs time to hear Glass Harp. Eddie wasn't doin this then & I'm a huge EVH fan.

  • It's sad that he would devote all that talent to a cult.

  • I's glad that he give all that thalent he's gotten and shared his faith! And this cult is loved by God! If you don't think so just listen!

  • in the early church the pharisees said the christians were a cult its persecution sgbr76

  • GOOD FUCKING GOD! That was 1972! NO ONE else was doing that back then. Other than perhaps EVH.

  • not even

  • I don't know man. On the oldest VH demo called the Cherokee Demo which dates back to 1973, Edward was doing all of this stuff and then some. But I'm sure Keaggy had probably had this style since the late 60's.

  • That's right - we used to see GH play at JB's in Kent and at the Agora in downtown Cleveland, this was well before 1973.

  • Why do Christians INSIST On cramming there beliefs down your throat... The mans good... Now shut up.

  • The melody he was playing at the beginning has these lyrics: "We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord,... And they'll know we are Christians by our love". The latter part is also the title. :)

  • What cramming? It's called musical expression.

  • And they'll know we are Christians by our love! Man John's a great drummer...

  • Awesome.

  • Back in the day it wqas so so good. Even so come Lord Jesus.

  • WOW what a rare video nugget! Once again, Keaggy is THE MAN. plz add some tags to this so more will see it: Keaggy, guitar, solo, etc.
