Magnum, it is true, many many dogs can recover without surgery. That is Conservative Treatment of 8 weeks of crate rest and meds. Acupuncture is prescribed not only for pain but to stimulate nerves to heal. It has been over 4 years that Clark is paralyzed... not a problem for him as you can see in all of his videos. Every Dachshund owner should bookmark DodgerslistDOTcom as 1 in 5 Dachshunds can have disc disease.
Oh, sorry for reading late, i read now he came back from a surgery after 8 weeks.... Well, then don't worry about my comment, just sharing that i had a dachshund that was "healed" by acupuncture. ;D How is Clark doing nowadays? =)
I'm not saying it heals all column problems, and I also know dachshunds are likely to come up with column problems, but it's a cool option. The dog isn't hurt like in a surgery, and has a chance to come back to walk. I don't know if you have tried, but i'd recommend a try, since it worked for my old dachshund i had. ;)
I had a female dachshund that lost her legs moviments for some months, and before we tried a wheel chair, me and my mom tried acupuncture therapy. She was old at that time and we gave it a try since it's softer than a surgery. She came back to walk, but not excited runs, after those months of therapy, i was simply amazed, even for her age, was very nice to see her walking like a normal dog again. =) (on next comment)
Our Molly is expecting her cart any day and we can't wait! She's been immobile for so long and wants to go for a walk like she used to. I hope she takes to it as quickly and easily as Clark!
i have a dachund and she has been ran over before so she has a prior back injury how much does something like this cost..i bet its a fortune for a wheel chair isnt it?
As a doxie owner (3 of em) I am concerned about their backs as I have heard they are prone to back injuries. Glad to see Clark has such an excellent master. Doxies are such a neat little dog!
Yes, 1 in 5 doxies get disc disease (IVDD). Google "Dodgerslist" and check out the recommended readings. In particular "Easy IVDD" will give you a quick education to know what to look for and what to do.

Google: Eddies Wheels (Clark's was $335)
Google: Dogs to Go (Wheelchairs under $100)
Buy the best you can afford, as the dog uses it everyday.

Over a year later, Clark is a master of his wheelchair. Watch as he enters his first wiener dog race and wins in the video response above.

Thanks. We wanted to see a happy dog. Clark looks quite unaffected and we hope our pup will enjoy a new lease on life also.
