  • never knew these two legends had faced each other

  • @bennett849 These guys faced each other several times- Both had trememdous respect for the other- I worked a shot in Lubbock Tx, that had both on the Card, Ric Flair vs Scott Casey and Brody vs Abdullah- I watched Ric and Frank talk for over an hour before the match- NOBODY interrupted them!

  • Saw this match from the front row.I was eleven. Weird seeing myself on it today. Still the best I have ever seen. No ring music in those days in St.Louis, but you should have heard the BRODY! BRODY! BRODY! chants just before he came out. And the pop when he jerked the curtain is still the loudest I have heard or will ever hear. Got to meet before he was murdered and will always be my hero.

  • Every time I see Brody I want to beat Jose to death with a fucking claw hammer.

  • flair looks so young here, he actually looks pretty good for once in the robe too

  • regardless of what the promotion called him, when i was a kid we all called him "King Kong motherf-ing" Bruiser Brody.

  • That's the REAL world title!

  • in bruiser brody book .jr say brody was one most feard and respcet wrestlers of 70s in and out of the ring.feard by the boss but respected by the wrestlers.

  • I wish i could have seen this as a child . I remember seeing this match in wrestling magazines and dying to see the actual match ! Way before the internet or even places to buy wrestling videos like this . It left alot to the imagination those oldschool wrestling mags - PWI , wrestling eye , inside wrestling i could go on and on .

  • @Laingraves You would've gone nuts. Live show at Memorail Stadium in San Antonio vs Abdullah the Butcher was INSANE. My sister took me and I actually met Brody at The Little Red Barn Steakhouse. My fav ever. My sons middle name is after him, Patrick Brody.

  • Awesome match. I love that the Blues were playing the next night, so they left the glass on the boards and probably just threw plywood over the ice. Real St. Louis wrestling and the Arena forever.

  • wow..listen to the POP...R.I.P

  • St. Louis, MO - Kiel Auditorium - February 11, 1983

Shown on Japanese TV: NWA World Champion Ric Flair fought Bruiser Brody to a draw in a Best 2 out of 3 falls match; fall #3: the 60-minute time limit expired

    The official date of match

  • @spoodyface This was the Checkerdome.

  • Look at that, the 10 pounds of gold right there!!

  • I thought Bruiser Brody was billed as King Kong Brody only in the AWA.

  • @frelvis77 he was but this is NWA

  • @Conner3030 True, but in St. Louis, where this match was held, Dick the Bruiser was big and they wanted to avoid name confusion.

  • @frelvis77 He was billed "King Kong" b/c Dick the Bruiser was big in both AWA and in Kansas City.

  • if this match took place in Missouri, why is the commentary in Japanese?

  • @d820m because japan covered lots of pro wrestling & over-dubbed commentary as they saw fit. i'm from montreal, & in 1984, our local territory was taken over by vince jr...... wwf in french, my friend....

  • The ref in this match was my weight training coach in high school. This match took place in the old arena in St.Louis,MO

  • The ref in this match was my weight training coach in high school.

  • Power Nap.

  • I still find Brody far more intimidating than the roid-enhanced, big men of today (Batista, Triple H, Cena, Steiner and the like). All the muscle in the world can't compensate for a lack of sheer presence.

  • Announce the champ first? That's unusual.

  • @notta3d They did that alot when the oher guy was 'Over"

  • heck yeah brody deserved this big time back in the day. good money being a title shot

  • Look at the atmosphere!! Wrestling is a shadow now of what it was back then. It has lost all respect.

  • @fishaman1980 Here here man the gospel truth.

  • agreed

  • wow, Brody with some nice wrestling moves. I've only seen him wrestle in his brawling style.

  • No one's better than Flair at gettin' bumped around!!!

  • Wrestling at it's best. Before MacMahon took over & turned everything into a fucking circus. Vince's puppet Hogan never wrestled in a 30 minute match let alone 1 hour. When is the last time ya seen a guy in WWE take a piledriver other than Taker's tombstone? Brody was the wildest fucker in the history of the business. If he had lived a few years longer he may have given in to Vince's money & gone to WWE to job to Hogan. He probably woulda been called the Berserker & his history never mentioned.

  • @TheUnforgiven2012 Hogan has gone 30 minutes before...just VERY rarely. I think his match at Wrestlemania 5 with Randy Savage went 30.

  • @TheUnforgiven2012 i hear u, bro. however, i'm sure you've seen some of hogans japan matches. his best work was as a heel in japan. i'm not a fan of his(although he could "carry the ball" as piper put it) but junior restrained him a tad. not that he was thesz, but i've seen him go over 30 at least 25 times. nothing compared to flair or others, of course. ajpw fuckin rocks! damn, it's great to see this! vinnie can kma

  • @jdbankshot Yeah i actually been watching old matches from Japan on YouTube the past few days and saw Hogan & Stan Hansen vs Antonio Inoki & Bob Backlund from 1980 and Hogan vs Andre from 1982. As for Hogan going 30 mins the only time i can think of from 1983-present day in North America was against Nick Bockwinkle in the AWA and maybe Randy Savage at Mania 1988. But you're right--in Japan Hogan's matches were different in that they lasted longer and he actually used some scientific holds.

  • @jdbankshot My mistake...Hogan vs Savage at Mania 1989 only lasted about 18 minutes so the only match i can think of in North America from 1983-present where Hogan went close to 30 minutes was against Nick Bockwinkle in the AWA in 1983.

  • I read about this match but this is the first time i ever saw it. Brody was the wildest wrestler in history. WWF didn't have the balls to bring him in cause they knew they couldn't control him. He woulda tore Hogan apart or anyone else. RIP

  • wow how long was this match? with all the parts, I'm counting an hour?

  • The best ever vs. the best that should have been R.I.P. Bruiser

  • this is good pro wrestling, not like what you see on wwe today, I hate the Mchons

  • this is probably the greatest shit i've ever seen

  • dick the ''bruiser'' was already a huge draw in st.louis so they didn't wanna label brody in st.louis as ''bruiser'' brody but ''king kong'' brody.

  • I thought he was only known as "King Kong Brody" during his brief run in the WWF?

  • Too bad there is no Jim Ross commentary on this. He would orate this match into a ballet.

  • damn this is good quallity!

  • @APaulA222 Absolutly ! The best !

  • they'll never make another one like you again.

    RIP Bruiser Brody

  • In his book "" To Be The Man "" Ric Flair explains in detail the importance of this match and how it played hudge for him over in Japan. Ric speaks highly of Bruiser Brody. Both great competitors ! God Bless you Frank ! Frank Donald Goodish : June 18 1946 - July 17 1988 . Passed away at the age of 42. Assassinated at the hands of José Huertas González .

  • @APaulA222 OHHH YEAH BABY.

  • Wow! this is a legendary match in the Keil Auditorium. I have seen several highlights of the bout, but apparently you have posted the entire thing here! Fantastic. Great quality video too! Thanks allot for this fabulous post!

They always said that Brody dropped allot of weight down to around 285 for this match. At one time He was a lest 320. Brody was hugely popular in the Central states i saw him Wrestle Flair live in Lincoln NE in early 1986.

  • I'm "in the dark" as to why THIS, let alone any other (Flair) match from Japan, match ISN'T on EITHER of the WWE's Ric Flair DVDs.

  • You can get the match on dvd from Highspots. It's on series of dvd's from St.louis. It's about 12 - 15.00.

  • @AngelofAnguish

The WWE only uses the matches that they own the rights to for their DVDs, since they don't own the rights to any footage from Japan you won't see it on any of their DVDs

  • Perhaps Vinnie Mac does not have the rights to this match. It's really a shame that there is not a legit Brody release.

  • Brody was thinner because he got of the juice. Everyone wanted Brody to win that night, If he had we'ed have blown the roof off.

  • This match was from the Checkerdome not the Kiel Auditorium

  • So this isnt that famed match , where people say if Brody won it would have erupted in a riot? Wonder if any one has the footage from the kiel auditorium

  • Larry Matysik did commentary on this match on St. Louis Classics. He mentioned that it took place in front of 16,000+ fans in the Checkerdome.

  • I heard Matysik say in an interview that he didn't have a copy of the match and he had to go to Japan to get a copy.

  • Yeah. Movies are horrible, too, because they are so fake.

  • Hey, ask that guy about Star Trek. Is that fake? 'Cause I get kinda confused about that and am always looking for some really smart guy to help me out.

  • @mpbuchanan Thank you!

  • i think they had a big match in the phillipines too

  • I read about this historic match in the book "Brody". Two icons going at it for the gold. Bruiser can be wild and over the top, but what a great pure wrestler he was.

  • Brody without a world belt was still the man. God rest the big man.

  • I've always wanted to see what those two's matches were like. Thanks for posting! Please post the rest of the match!
