Please don't beat me up on this. I just wanted to add some history to this post. My uncle (who recently died at 92) worked on some of the first computers ever built back in the day.
Some of the truth is that a french loom was actually the "first" true binary computer. It used punched out cards to carry out a set of instructions to complete a task. One of them is located at Shelburne Museum in Burlington VT. Only 2 are known to still exist. The 2nd "computer" was the player piano. This thing did much of the same as the loom mentioned above. 1's and 0's - on's and off's. Remember the old punch cards? Same type of "digital" communication to machines.
modern computers we use today are not computers!!! They are just modified harvards. The modern processors today have pipelines built in therefore cannot write self-modifying code!!
Most of the comments here are opinion, not fact. Two good books can set the record straight. "The Binary Revolution" (Neil Barrett) gives the British side of the story. "History of Modern Computing" (Paul Ceruzzi) the American. Why did no one mention von Neumann, Mauchly and Eckert, who are generally credited with the first stored program digital computer? Read "ENIAC" (Scott McCartney)! The British have in fact finally built Babbage's calculator. Its in the London science museum.
The british built Colossus, the world's first programmable electronic computer in 1942. Also check out Alan Turing who is often considered to be the father of modern computer science, british again, and lets not forget Charles babbage, but i guess you are all taught history through the american books!
I hate to talk about the first anything. Nothing but arguments. There are all kinds of analog devices before electronic computers. Even before Babbage. Still an interesting presentation.
lol dell maybe one of the biggest computer retailer out there but man do they love to sell peolpe junk lets just say they wanted to sell one of my family members a computer with no AGP or even PCI-E just crappy old PCI and for Windows i dont even wanna go there becuase from what ive been hearing about microsoft it aint good
Your an Idoit!!! WIndows is not a company!! Windows is a product form a company called Microsoft! And Bill Gates no longer runs it, he's retired. Now Steve Ballmer runs it!
oh whoops i guess that means that i'm not supposed to be using my apple according to this video so i guess i'll have to throw it out and give even more money to Microsoft (not windows xp, which is not a company)
Where did you get your computer history list from?
The Bombe at Bletchley Park, UK was NOT a computer. The Colossus computer was (also at Bletchley Park during WWII.
The HP machine was NOT a computer - but you missed the ENIAC (1946 - Philadelphia), the UNIVAC - first commercial computer (1951 - Philadelphia) and the ABC machine developed at Iowa State University in the 1930's which was a computer.
Very brief history overview about computers, very nice, but i suggest you put more effort in the audio. quality could be better, and don't speak so fast and uninterested.

Charles Babbage, originated the concept of a programmable computer mmany years before
Boccherini64 2 years ago
Too bad he didn't build one.
The same way things went with the lightbulb for example.

Well, based on the prior responses, I think I better leave this web page.
But I hafta admit, this was a bit Microsoft biased, but she only had about a minute.
Can't hate on Bill, he marketed his OSes to the corporate world.
Jobs just didn't get the chance first
(although, MS was late in havin' a 64bit OS
in compared to MacOSx AND iPods r everywhere.)
Everyone can't hit the same good pussy at once, ya know...

MrSpartan1717,
Can't argue with u there.
The motherboards r limited without AGP, which is a bit dumb to not have that with the chipset nowadays since online gaming is slowly growing.
Guess Dell figured that Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft will handle that.
(Thinkin' about it, does Dell host Macs?)
Pity on anyone who has a Dell server, if it exists...
