  • I've got CODWAW running in Ubuntu 10.10 (it's hardest to configurate). But, yes: COD4 runs better in GNU/Linux.

  • What the fuck, how did you get it running so quickly?

  • hey pls help

i want to play a game but its only for windows

    so i downlaoded wine

but i dont know if i download the game will not work

pls help P.S i got xubuntu 10.4?? and how u freaking download it on xubuntu

  • @1makermovie Why don't you try the forums or go to IRC, there are so many sources and people that will help you. I think Youtube is not the place to ask for help on this... I myself use Ubuntu for quite some time now and have found the answers on these (Google, Ubuntu Forum, IRC) resources too.

  • look at all that pretty lag

  • opensuse this or what ??? i think that

  • how i instal the cod in linuxs mdv? i download the wine, but wen i go install apear "incomp wiht windows me/95/2000. Someone, help me please.

  • Run winecfg and select WinXp for emulation mode

  • @otavioafm1 u have to change the windows settning to xp or higher

  • Yeah he did speed it up, but you guys have to remember screen capture on linux sucks, tbh, and causes the frame rate to drop significantly in most cases. I bet this game works with no lag at all when he isn't recording.

  • how. i tryed it but screen is comeng smaller

  • Actually WINE means "Wine Is Not an Emulator", it doesn't emulate directx neither. So that doesn't make it a crappy OS. But I agree most of the games do have a bad performance because they weren't developed for linux in first place. But old games like gta 3 vice city work fine for me :)

  • Lol, shut the fuck up. You obviously don't know what your talking about. Wine is NOT an emulator, like metalero said, and not just games controls how good the OS is either, I may add. Not to mention OpenGL is one of the industry standards, and is expected by alot of people to overtake DirectX. But, yes, alot of games don't work on linux, or work with a lower FPS. But you have to keep in mind I've heard reports of people getting *better* FPS in some games. Just dont talk if you don't think first

  • @ADPDirty linux is crappy lmfao. the only thing windows is good for gaming. not to mention they charge you out the ass for it

  • DAMN dude you loaded that up fast!

  • this should work fine on ubuntu- ive seen it done b4

  • He sped up the game to make it appear like its running perfectly but it looks like its getting slightly slow fps.

  • that looks like fast forward.

  • Because we don't have fraps on linux..

  • whats fraps? i just got linux still getting the hang of it..

  • Fraps is the famous windows program for doing videos inside games and programmes like games.

  • Unistall it, dude and go play pacman! xD

    Just kiddin!

  • just like DARWINE for mac, cool

  • are you missing any graphical options? i know in some wine games some graphics card features are not always present so the graphics setting is lower than in Winblow

  • Can it runs on full screen?

  • Yes easily

  • I just started with with Ubuntu, im trying to make it look like classic Mac OS, anyone have programs that do that?

  • just browse the web, there are plenty of metacity themes looking like Mac Os

  • Look up Macbuntu

  • gnomelook(dot)org

  • How do i put cod 4 in windowed mode???

  • google search "cod4 in windowed mode tutorial:

  • Emulate a virtual desktop (winecfg - Graphics).

  • to dbellegueulle what program u used to record? glc or xvidcap?

  • ill play window games on windows, cause that's what they were developed for

dual boot is not that problamatic

  • Kiddin'? :)

Mandriva is cool! Ubuntu is too simple.

  • Mandriva and Ubuntu are really on the same level of difficulty. Mandriva is by no means Gentoo.

  • Actually, mandriva is one of the more user-friendly distributions. Gentoo, Slackware and Arch are the more nerdy distros.

  • No Network playing on servers with cheat protection on (punkbuster or VAC or whatever they use) which is an unresolvable issue for the wine guys... which means, no bearable network mode at all, because the unprotected servers are filled to the brim with cheaters and grievers.

  • kinda looks shitty, hope its just the hardware

  • i think its because the recorder slows down any 3d accelerated apps

  • Can you make it full screen?

  • this is real yes, and to run you go into the terminal make sure your at the right drectory and type wine /file.exe or something

  • you'll be faster if you don't launch the game from a console... Because those messages slows down cpu cycles ;)

  • where did you get the alpha bend patch

  • can u tell me how to use wine. in other words i would like to know hot to install something such as .exe under wine.

    please help.

  • Dubbleclick the .exe file?

If that not works you can rightclick the .exe file and chose "open with wine"

I don't know wich dist you use, but in Ubuntu it works that way.

  • question : how can i install programs on linux mandriva ? thanks :)

  • I'm sure mandriva has a package management. You should play around with it, and see. Check their website, and forum.

  • I'm sure Mandriva has a APT packet management tool. Mess around with it. Check out their website, and forums.

  • is there any web explaining how to configure wine to play this specific game? I've always found wine a bit tricky and I'd like to play windows games on Linux. thanks in advance!

  • can you go full screen?

  • I'm sure he could, but he's probably not doing it so you can see he is running it on his linux and not using some kinda video trick(like switching it to run fullscreen on a windows comp or something)

  • have you tried a full version of that game?i saw the tutorial of COD4 running on linux using wine but it's only demo version?

  • is that a demo version???

  • Yes demo version

  • Wow, what spec is your pc?

  • - Mandriva 2008

    - Asus Notebook F3SV-AP035C

    - Intel T7700 CPU at 2 x 2,4Ghz

    - 2 x 1 Giga DDR2 800Mhz GSkill

    - Nvidia 8600 GS 256Mo and 1 Giga with TurboMemory

    - 200 Giga Harddrive with 16Mb of cache

  • This is crazy...you dont have to have the minimun requirements for the game???....you just need to patch a few things and thats it??....or i still need the mininum requirements??...

  • What program did you use to record the screen?

  • Xvidcap or RecordmyDesktop

  • Yeah? I didn't think you could get such good FPS with those; very nice. I use RecordMyDesktop, xvidcap crashes too much.

  • Is Wine work with all Windows application, or some application doesn't work perfectly? I want to try Windows live messenger with Wine in Ubuntsu and an emulator.

  • lol ubun-tsu, that would be cool if there was a japaneezy OS liek that. ubuntzu... killin me... okay yeah winehq man google it, some shits sticky but most progs work well, but why would you want windows messenger? something tells me you haven't thought this one through... Microsoft equals eggs in the face...

  • lol , mdr

  • haha Mort de rire indeed...

  • some application doesn't work perfectly?

But for "Live Messenger",use Kopete ...

  • Merci!

  • I've been starting to run several games through Wine, since many games and programs runs faster emulated in Linux than natively in Windows. That's kind of sad.

  • daaaaamnn is it possible for an operating system to give you a boner

  • Rofl thats fast xD

  • but how is this passable you muck

  • lol @ COD 4 running better on linux than windows

  • Amebizfan:

Actually, it runs a lot better in Windows. I get a lower framerate in Linux and some of the graphics settings don't work or make the game unplayable.

I still prefer to run it in Linux, though

  • Did you try to turn beryl off before loading the game? It should increase your framerate, at least...

    btw, good job =]

    Linux wins!

  • Surprisingly, I notice very little difference running the game with or without compiz-fusion turned on. The game runs at a good framerate in Linux, just slightly slower then it does in Windows. Games never perform better in Wine than they do in Windows, and I don't expect them to. In Windows, they're running natively and in Linux they're running with the help of a compatibility layer. I'm just happy with the fact that I can run COD4 on an operating system it wasn't even designed to run on.

  • Some of the graphics settings don't work or make the game unplayable and punkbuster doesn't work, but those are sacrifices I'm willing to make

  • Yeah, probably because of your gfx card. Here I have a Geforce FX5200, and beryl/compiz-fusion MAKES difference most of times :P

And about punkbuster, I'm having similar problems with nProtect GameGuard... It doesn't work over wine.

  • Yeah punkbuster doesn't work with wine yet

  • yeah, I have a 7600GT. Compiz doesn't seem to drain it very much

  • ain't this something?

  • Hey people...do I really need a NO-CD patch to run this game on WINE, because I don't like to do that, I run legit...I don't want to be involved with stuff like that.

  • most people need the no-cd crack. You can grab one over at gamecopyworld. I don't really see what the big deal is if you legally own the game.

  • For example in Germany it is illegal to use any crack, no matter if you own the game legally or not. But in case you live somewhere law does not restrict crack-usage just do so ;)

  • hm good point. But personally, I don't see anything morally wrong with using a no-cd crack when you actually bought the game. I doubt Activision would care, they'd be more after people who pirated the game and are using cracked servers to play online

  • I am from serbia and here everyone have pirated CoD4.Me to.Dont have money to buy game so this is only way :P

  • You should launch the game with WINEDEBUG=-all, it will be faster ;).

  • Yes , i launch the game with WINEDEBUG=-all

  • Nice video.

I was hoping I was the first to post a video of Call of Duty 4 running in Linux, but you beat me to it.

  • where i can find Vertex Patch ?

  • i need help ,have u got messenger ?

  • can u play multi player

  • NO ... No multi player

  • multiplayer works, just not on punkbuster-enabled servers

  • Thanks

  • you mean no multi in demo? or no multi player at all? :|

  • what computer (hardware) has you got?

  • My Config :

    - Mandriva 2008

    - Asus Notebook F3SV-AP035C

    - Intel T7700 CPU at 2 x 2,4Ghz

    - 2 x 1 Giga DDR2 800Mhz GSkill

    - Nvidia 8600 GS 256Mo and 1 Giga with TurboMemory

    - 200 Giga Harddrive with 16Mb of cache

  • Can it work with the latest Wine Version?

  • - Wine 0.9.50 with Vertex Patch in my web ( 3dmark.diff )

    - Call of Duty 4 works very well in "Normal texture" , NOT HIGH ( 800x600 full screnn )

    Install d3dx9_24.dll in system32 ( ./wine/drive_c/windows/system32 )
