  • Peace ... Love ... Nature ... Knowledge & Freedom!

  • Why is it all through primary, intermediate and college it was spelt 'E Ihoa' and now I come on here and its 'E Ihowa'? No biggie lol.

  • Beautiful song sung by an absolutely beautiful woman, though I know not a lick of the Maori language.

  • dam gurl where u beeen my hole life :D

  • I believe this video was created as a teaching tool. I can't believe that some people are actually posting comments as if it's a competition. She sounds perfect and sings it clearly so that everyone can learn. Malo Lava!

  • i am from the united states this and canada have the best national anthams great voice

  • @pbeaty2008 deep down I am from the U.S. as well and feel nearly the same though I love Switzerland and Finland's anthems a lot! Something tells me we have lineage with the Maori!

  • Nice to hear clear pronunciation

  • Hayley Westenra's version is wayyy better!

  • Thank you Lord for such beauty and grace!

  • now that is how the national anthem is sung!!! Not the version all schools in New Zealand are being taught these days!

  • beautiful. thank you for this. I wanted to hear nice clear pronunciation and meaning. ta

  • nice

  • @bluejoey2135 maybe because it isn't their first language homo DUH!

  • This makes me feel so proud to be maori aeh, !

  • i wish i was new Zeland and japeness they r so pretty!!!!

  • is ross taylor ur brother bcuz u both have same features ..

    nice singing...................

  • a very beautyful singing..

  • beautiful........

  • Thank you very much New Zealanders for this sweet and beautiful song ^^

  • Just checked the maori dictionary OOPS it really is E Ihowa (meaning Lord) So the anthems lyrics website got it wrong with Ihoa. Oh well, live and learn.

  • who spelt this song 'E Ihowaa"??? Its 'E Ihoa'

  • the english version is dum as hell

  • good voice, and good song

  • ha! This is Aotearoa/New Zealand. Beautifully performed without any political bias, quite possibly a person with ethnic ties to both Maori and non-Maori links. For all of those who dont know her, she speaks english well too.lol. If only Aotearoa was a more perfect reflection of this aye?

  • She's stunningly beautiful - and so is her singing voice! I'm amazed! :O

  • a peaceful chrismas for all maori

  • just beautiful

  • i have a very stupid question, why is it that kiwis' national anthem not english? isnt your language english? im so sorry just wanna know....im sorry

  • @takemeillfollow06 because lots of people speak maori in nz and there was the maori people that found nz(if you beleive that story whick personally i dont) hope this helps LOL

  • @fulfordxray ahhh ok...sorry again

  • @fulfordxray that's true, but I think that before the Maori race got here, the morioris(sp?) were the first ones here.

  • @RosealieWalker Wikipedia "current research indicates that ancestral Moriori were Māori Polynesians who emigrated to the Chatham Islands from New Zealand before 1500."

Apparently the reason they were so easily forced into extinction was because they lived by a code of non violence.

  • @takemeillfollow06 The New Zealand National Anthem is in both Maori and English. The first part is in Maori, and the second part is in english, for those who do not know what the maori "bit" means (: It's right, except "Aotearoa" Doesn't mean "New Zealand" it means "Land of the long white cloud" (: Hope that helps (:

  • @takemeillfollow06 Maori is also a language of new zealand

  • @SarahW4023 why in the world would i dislike my own race?

  • it's hard to admit it as an australian, but that is beautiful.

  • @jfluk

why should it be? New Zealanders are our brothers and sisters, New Zealand and Australia have much more in common than any other two countries in the world.

  • @JepJep92 go wallabies. thats why.

  • @JepJep92 well put. that's why we are are placed into the same continent; Oceania.

  • @JepJep92 so true, where else in the world do u have such a close bond with the bullshit pisstake of each other? very uniquie relationship, bottle it and sell it....instant millionaire, lol

  • the face and voice of an angel

  • I'm a german, and i spent a year in New Zealand 2006/2007. It was probably the best time of my life and I really wanna go back, because i miss everything there and everytime i listen to this anthem it feels a bit like coming home...

  • aotearoa aroha nui! God bless this beautiful country - I spent almost one year there as well and I'll be back for sure. The kiwi anthem is the only one in the world I could remember after hearing it only a couple of times (both maori and english). Take care ya kiwis, hugs from Switzerland

  • maori zealand people no.1

  • Lovely girl, wonderful anthem :)

I've spent one year in NZ and I had a great time, thanks Kiwis ;-)

  • Yeah go Naomi! Hey sister. It's si here. Hoyts represent!

  • Just Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love the Kiwi anthem... both english and maori verses.

I would love it if Australia also had an Aboriginal verse in our Anthem but it is just so impractical. There is something like 150 individual active languages originally steming from 750 languages. There would never be a consenus

  • Very nice first time ive ever heard our anthem sing by someone who actually pronounces the words right... Tino Pai..

  • I like how we have a Maori and English version...

  • Ataaahua!! I love the Irish anthem and the French anthem too and ohh the Welsh one, very stirring!

  • beautifull voice with a beautifull wahine

  • @deportcockroaches

And no one understands your disgusting racist gibberish. the NATIVE people of New Zealand understand this, and they have every right to sing it, you're not even a New Zealander why do you care so much?

  • deportcockroaches: That proves my point; racism is the rock the mentally deranged dwell under when they are too insecure to admit their own lack of mental acuity. Your obvious low self esteem compels you to lash out at those who are different in order to hide your own insecurities behind a wall of hatred and violence. You are a sad and pathetic individual, and I fear you may also pose a danger to civilized society. Please get professional mental help.

  • @joebenevides

wonderfully said! racists have no place in the world today.

  • fuck u

  • Well i think its Awesome im all the way across the world at the moment and the national anthem brings me back home for a few seconds so if yu dont like it then dont comment it means something to us kiwi's just like it does for Aussie's so stop with the negativity please :)

  • aaah beautiful! if i make my olympic hopes true i'll definitley sing it in maori

  • Nice.

  • wat a beautiful voice!!!:D

  • Sugar, have you ever read the 2nd verse of the Aust anthem. It reads in part "for those who come across the seas we have boundless plains to share". In fact we lock them up in detention centres. Then we treat the rightful owners of Australia as 3rd class people. I was born here yet I feel that there is much to be learned from NZ and the way they treat the original owners as equals or better. Their Anthem is beautiful. because it starts with the real owners of NZ in their own language.

  • yeah yeah yeah we suck blah blah blah blah.

  • no , maori sounds better for the anthem

  • Sorry......Maori sounds good Maori....

Those of whom, who can understand their own language....

  • Chur

  • Pretty beautiful and tranquil anthem

    -usa

  • beautiful, great job naomi.

  • i'm australian, and i think that the new zealand national anthem is one of the best, much better than ours haha,

much love from your trans-tasman siblings! :D

  • well i think they're both equally as good... why is it 'beta'... only because you can understand the the englis version?

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger we are both bias because i can't stand the australian national anthem but yet i knew it better thatn most aussies but I could get why yous didn't sing it in an aboriginal language

  • hell no maori anthem is way better than that australian one

  • @JepJep92 I am French and I love the melody of this one. So smooth and so emotive. I love this one. Dan Carter: could you please translate it for me?

  • @JepJep92 cher bro....thats the ansac sprit, where always better but.

  • I love your national anthem so much... I want to learn the Maori version, because it's so beautiful.

  • dont know but shes really good at singing it =) kiwi reprecent

  • in the first line it says "E Ihowa Atua". could it be that the word "ihowa" was somehow influenced by the european missionaries since they use the christian and jewish word "jehovah" (=god)?

  • Ihoa doesnt mean god. the translation of Ihoa. is father of hundreds, and thousands.

not saying the maori race believe there is god. but they believe there is a father of us all.

  • Love being maori :)

  • this chicks got an amazing voice; new zealand for life

  • its so neat that your anthem is sung in both english and maori. what a pretty voice on that singer.

  • thats because the maori version is sung with peace and harmony

  • its funny at the stadiums, after the switch from the Maori to English

  • America - interested in war and conflict, dumb brutes. Just because we don't find it necessary to sing about killing other people. England - God save the queen, very patriotic. Australia - Nature. New Zealand - Peace.

Has this been your personal experience thus far?
