  • Another question: Have you read Stanislaw Lem?

  • @makidtrej Not one single book nor short story.

    By the way happy birthday.

  • @DrGull1888 Why thank you!

And by the way, Lem is one of the most intelligent sc fi writers.

If you are into really good hard science fiction, i recommend you Fiasco or the The Invincible. If you want to read some mind-blowing philosophical sci fi, read Solaris, His Master`s Voice or Memoirs Found in a Bathtub.

  • @makidtrej Thanks a lot for your recommendations. I don't know why I've ignorred Lem so far. Perhaps he's in my dead spot since I mainly read historical non fiction, followed by alternate history and dystopian novels.

  • @DrGull1888 Ah, and epoch novels. I forgot epoch novels. They make certain time periods understandable.

  • I wander why did i asked you about Ballard when you included his novels and mentioned him as one of your faves... Must have missed it completely.

  • I found it ! YaY Good choice of music by the way.

  • @SiliconBong Thanks a lot. A little homage to Burgess and Kubrik.

  • Great video, and I love the slogan, but IMO you should have included 'Swastika Night' by Katharine Burdekin (originally published under the presudonym Murray Constantine). An amazing book, sadly overlooked. Perhaps to do with the fact that the author was a woman, one can't help but wonder.

  • @LeishaCamden That's a book I shamefully ignored for reasons which are mysterious even to me. I checked it on wikipedia and I'm going to buy it within this week.

  • @DrGull1888 You should definitely read it, it's an amazing read. I myself only came across it completely by accident, and I was deeply impressed with it. What's so amazing is that it was actually written before the war even started. So yeah, definitely read it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. :-)

  • @LeishaCamden I will. Burdekin predicted the extermination of the Jews and the Japanese attack on America. I read she focusses on the patriarchic aspect of National Socialism which is always neglected by historians.

Did you read The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick?

  • @LeishaCamden And thanks for the compliments.

  • Great video, your top 3 books are as I expected.

BUT I think you should have considered We by Zamyatin in the books because it was an inspiration and a pre-cursor for many of the books listed in the video.

  • @noxnocturne I haven't read We yet. But I read an essay about post revolutionary Russian literature. Zamyatin predicted an almighty leader like Stalin and an all controlling system like the Stalinistic USSR. I guess this is why he was killed. And thanks for the compliments.

  • @DrGull1888 Yes indeed, how mighty his writings were.

I've heard that Orwell's 1984 is overly politicized, do I stand correct?

  • @noxnocturne "Was" is more accurate. In times of "Big Brother" TV shows and people willingly showing every nothingness of their lifes in the net I would say Orwell is banalized.

  • @DrGull1888 I stand corrected, unfortunately that's it...reality is more literate.

  • @noxnocturne It is still an important piece of literature. Some read it as a satire on Stalinism. I think Orwell who was a Socialist worked up his disapointment about Stalinism.

  • @DrGull1888 Yes certainly, haven't read any Orwell work..so I'm new in the dystopic community, that's why I will consider "We" first.

  • @noxnocturne No Kidding? I thought you read 1984 and We and thus prefered We which would have been o.k. since tastes are different. So, simply see my top 10 list as recommendation and choose for yourself what books to read and like.

  • NIce list. I like your lists so I've been browsing your profile. Nice to see 1984 in it's rightful place. Good to see Brave new world high up also. I'm surprised you didn't add Crash by JG Ballard. If you haven't read it you should. Also, if you liked Phillip K dick then you should try Idoru by will Gibson. Others i recommend are "divided kingdoms" and "the time machine".

  • Thanks. I haven't read Crash yet although Ballard is one of my favourite. I read the Drowned World and the Burning World by him. I read the Time Machine and I included it in my top 10 list of post apocalyptical novels.

I struggled with myself to include the Iron Heel by Jack London but I found Players Piano which has a similar subject by Vonnegut better. It is more ironic.

  • Excellent! Some of my favorite books are here.

I´ve ran out of ideas... could you give me some? hehehe. Ip´m planing to make a top 5 non Marvel/DC graphic novels yet somehow that´s too little and really can´t think of as many as a top ten without repeating.

  • I'll give you ideas in a personal message.
