This is the song that Earl Slick said that they nailed the solo on the first take. If you listen to it, the solo's the same as on the original version which he said they recorded live with no overdubs.
My favorite song on this album. He really addresses some of his frustrations. I love the part when he sings (3:09) "I know I hurt you then but Hell, that was way back WHEN? Well, Do you still have to carry that cross - Drop it" Listen to the way he sings it, the expression in his voice. It's priceless. He probably was still getting grief of his infidelity incident after which Yoko kicked him out and he moved to LA. Women don't tend to forget these things and I'm sure Yoko would bring it up
For me, there isn't another artist that comes close to John. He was incomparable. I think a lot of people can not grasp how original and amazing he was/is because they're tainted by a lot of other things- his relationship with Yoko, the others Beatles, the deified image. But if you sort of view him as just the man he was, analyze all the work he created and the things he was doing...no one in the music world comes close. His death was a horrible loss.
I like this version because you can hear the vocals better and they're clearer here. I still think IMO, that I like the Cheap Trick version better. More of a rock edge and more upbeat. If you listen to the words, the line that says, " I know I hurt you then, but hell, that was way back when, do you still have to carry that cross.? Drop it!! That was a reference to John cheating on Yoko back before they separated in the 70's. She never let him forget it when they fought.
All they needed to do was put just HIS pic on the cover. The album should have been like this without Yoko's tracks..which is what John intended. This is true Lennon.. heavy and unpolished.
I LOVE THIS VERSION OF IM LOSING YOU!!! John never sounded better huh. His vocals are raw and alive. I never get tired of listening to John and i really like this series of stripped recordings. Thank you for posting this amazing material!
@bentheled why does there always have to be some asshole on board. this is a great tribute release to celebrate John's birthday today...have some respect!!

Ironicly it was Yoko who ended up losing John and not the other way 'round as this song intends.
