Newman hit 194 with a great bump from his teammate and plus using the draft off of other cars. Individual vehicle speeds would be alot less then that. Plus Nascar end up boring up the restrictor plates a lil more to increase the airflow rate, thus the speed increase in the race. This occured a week before the 500. Since what they saw in testing, qualifying & shootout speeds wasn't creating much for competition. Then again the 500 was a snoozer to begin with until the last 5 laps of the race!
I personally hate the COT as well. Already we see that the speeds aren't as good as the old car and they already opened up the restrictor plates to reach those 188 speeds! (and that's only in a draft!) Even the engines are being force to do more work! They're hitting over 8000rpms when they should be doing between 7 to 7200rpms. This is not good because those engines won't be able to last in the long run. We'll see though, then if the 500 race isn't a sucess you can blame nascar for it.
