no, this is true... Muay Chaiya has no grappling... Kru preang added that in, and Kru lek use to be Kru preangs teacher.... someone told me this.. who? you might ask, I will not say,
Kru Preang, how come you add in Grappling? is Muay Chaiya not good enough for you? keep Muay Chaiya the way it is.... this is not MMA...
through my research, observation, learning little bit, and based on history muay thai/boran really emphasize or totally striking. i never seen n heard grappling in muay thai. but i very respect with muay thai because their core movement so fast, hard, simple, brutal n consecutively especially when use double sword. its really good technique in real war which u would face mass enemy. thats why thailand able to defend their country n even spread their kingdom through war. sorry if i mistake.
just my personal opinion, not all of the martial art have grappling techniques, if they have its maybe too little. every martial art have different focus some of them more on grappling and some of them on striking.
wow awesome, some of their move is really like silat. thats why some people called like that. try navigate' krabi kris silat malaya', 'kris fight', 'krabi malaya fight', 'silat malaya', 'sriwana pencak silat kris fight' and 'sriwana penchak silat' on you tube.
Hi! Thank you, now the next thing is how to convince the thais to think about this, so far there are few thai boxers entered to
mma games few successed but all of them just learnt some anti-grappling techneques from Bjj but not muaychaiya.
Again I do think that learnning BJJ is technicallywise O.K. for them but we need them to learn their own nation art too for the traditional art conservation aspect.
Now a day mma games became worldwide as everyone knows UFC,PRIDE...,few thai boxers join the games but the weakest point of them is grappling&ground work in my opinion it won't be bad if we start by trainning the few thai boxers by this master and just go and test in the mma games!! Usable or useless, good or bad have to
if you read the book konwledge of mixed martial arts. the author has stated that every martial arts had a little bit of everyhting which included both grappling and strking.**the only difference bjj has focused combing groundfighting with submissions.
bjj did really teach much striking just for the kowledge that u can add strking anytime with bjj if you're in a dominent position like the mount or side control.
doesnt kru preang just adding the grappling technique from the others style? is it just because grappling is one of the ultimate style to fight especially one by one? previously many fighting style focus on standing including muay thai/boran. and the world of fighting was shocked by bjj through royce gracie. whatever, good application and absorbtion.
I thought it had grappling, just not detailed like BJJ or Judo. I thought it had enough grappling to escape a ground fight and return to standing. Are you sure there was no ground grappling at all in old style Muay Boran? I'm not a Thai stylist so please explain so I can understand better.
I've been a student of Muay Thai for a while now, and what you learn depends on the teacher you have. We train for the ring and self defense, depends on the day, and who's in the class. In self defense, we go for the groin, eyes, throat, knee, whatever. For the ring, it's mostly fists and shin kicks, knees and elbows, but it's all still really straightforward stuff. Also a student of Kali/Escrima and BJJ. Still, I would have to agree that all three arts work well together.
Hi im a ving tsun practitioner and i agree i think the origonal muay baron may be lethal but muay thai had to adapt to the ring. Im sure at its core is a VERY lethal style.
I don't know if this is because MT has been too watered down and sporticised, the trend that follows with all popularised martial arts like tae kwon do or BJJ, but muay thai is, or at least gives an impression that this art is about killing the enemy with gradual damage accumulated with successions of blows, not like hapkido, where you end a fight with a fake left jab and a kick on the nuts.
Yeah, i'm just saying, Muay Thai grappling isn't as effective has BJJ or hapkido in terms of grappling, but none the less, the art itself is very good. I also agree with the multiple oppenant theory, ground is the last place you wanna be when you're facing more then one guy unless you want some good head kicking by his mates. But i disagree with you on MT killing a guy with two blows. continued...
That was what Muay Boran was designed for. Have you seen those flying elbow strikes to the back of the neck? That could paralyze or kill someone instantly. There are some very brutal techniques in Muay Boran, which is why it is banned from competitions.
well you can still use a flying elbow strike to the head or any other strike (except headbutt) if you wish. the point is it is very hard to perform and risky- thats why you dont see it very often.

Muay Thai Boran has grappling techniques, it's every means necessary to escape, survive, and kill the opponent.

Old Style Muay Boran doesn't have Grappling, Kru Preang felt the need to add it to it..., Kru Lek still teaches the real Muay Boran

Muay Boran have Grappling
because it use in war.
throwing, pressing , grappling and breaking is basic for killing techniques
you can died easiler in their techniques
but in sport it's not for kill
Kru Lek having their techniques like Kru preang

The stand-up looks choreographed, and the groundfighting looks like a bit of a mess. It's a nice video and something good to see, but...

i think those old mt techniques are simply not used anymore because the sport has deveoped to a much more efficient competiton sport...
