Would be better (more robust) to mark up a pizza box's corner and recognize the area..

Defeats the purpose of using such props, but recognizing the palm and fingers, facial features etc. will make it possible to dispense with printed markers altogether. Detecting fingertip motions will enable "air user interfaces" (AUIs). I'm working on a theremin app along these lines :)
