  • no explosions, boring!

  • Were there two engines? is that the other one you can just see under the freight car to the left of the engine on fire? Deepest respect to the families involved, a tragic accident.

  • i drive these trains, smoke coming from cab is never good , stayingin the cab and holding on is best, not along fall, must of been cab induses

why fire in cab says electrical

  • This is a tragic and dangerous situation. Search and Rescue requires advanced training of physically fit and mentally prepared people

  • Well, I can see your crew really went out of their way to bring the boat up next to the engine through the (as you called it) Flaming water? No, you didn't know if someone was in the wreck. So you justify not looking at all??? You could have boarded that locomotive right from the boat without getting your feet wet, or checked the shoreline behind it for the injured. People don't know what houses earthquake victims are trapped in either. So they dig and find out. Self absorbed Pussys.

  • @Ghstwn Dude, have you ever been in Kootenay lake? Especially in the winter...theres no way the news team could have helped...you need speciallized people for this...read up on the story, before calling someone a pussy...I am sure you would not have done much there.

  • @zj360666 As soon as I saw the term, "DUDE" used just two words into you response,.. I read no more. Later. "Dude".

  • You should take this video off of youtube. This is not entertainment. It's a real situation were two men died and one survived. You're very rude to post this.

  • Reminds me of one of the final scenes from 'The Cassandra Crossing'.

  • how the hell does a train accident turn into an internet brawl over morals and thought?! It was an accident, and the train crew had died by the time the camera was turned on. by the looks of the cab, the crew died when a car landed on the hood of the locomotive. and hell, why not film it! There's not much else you can do for two dead people other than film what's left of them, and their train.

  • @jjw2795 I agree...although I am sure that the Engineer and Conductor died instantly when they hit the giant boulder that fell....it was massive. I have worked this line, and it it is one of the most dangerous ones out there.

  • @zj360666 I'm sure it is, steep grades, steep sides, tight curves, steep and tight everything!

  • who the fk does railways next to the fucking edge?

  • @Avenger4343 your momma. Any other moronic questions you need to get off your chest?

  • @e952ct yes i have one for you ...hmm why do you watch gay porn?

  • @Avenger4343 I have eclectic tastes, what's your excuse?

  • @e952ct my excuse? i hate fags like you :) thats my excuse

  • @Avenger4343 I was wondering why you watch gay porn but we all know why so no need to futher embarrass yourself with more pedestrian thinking filled retorts.

  • @e952ct clown fart

  • In response to the "coward" remark from NotchEightProductions. The TV crew was on site around an hour and a half after the crash had happened and there were work crews on the railway and RCMP in a boat. We had no idea anyone was in the train. Also if you want to dive into freezing water, in the middle of a Canadian winter, swim through fuel, that's on fire and not know if someone is in the wreck or not, you go right ahead.

  • @tmtvbctv "CP RAIL CRASH INTO KOOTENAY LAKE, NEAR NELSON BC CANADA JANUARY 1995 Moments after the crash" Surely "moments" < 1.5 hrs?

  • @tmtvbctv You should change the description, an hour and a half is not "moments after the crash". The video does clearly show nothing could've been done to save the crew though.

  • @tmtvbctv Well, I can see your crew really went out of their way to bring the boat up next to the engine through the (as you called it) Flaming water? No, you didn't know if someone was in the wreck. So you justify not looking at all??? You could have boarded that locomotive right from the boat without getting your feet wet, or checked the shoreline behind it for the injured. People don't know what houses earthquake victims are trapped in either. So they dig and find out. Self absorbed Pussys.

  • @Ghstwn You sound like a real hero and all...but lets face the facts here,RCMP and search and rescure were already on the scene, even before these folks got there..let the qualified folks do their jobs. Boarding a flaming loco, that can slip under water anytime, seems pretty stupid as well, and you will find if you looked more into it,the engineer and counductor died on impact..and the one lucky guy climbed up the cliff...also long before the news crew showed up,so get a clue buddy.

  • @zj360666 Uh Huh,.. Yeah. Ok.

  • @zj360666 And of course the boat people knew all these facts as they passed by just a short time after the accident? Is that it? They were clairvoyant and were positive survivors should not be looked for.

Yep,.. I got it now. Thanks.

  • @Ghstwn Maybe I am looking at it from my point of view.I know more about trains than the news crew probably does, the cab of that train was flooded, and on fire. A person without the proper gear could do nothing realy(diving gear, breathing appuratus for smoke)...sorry I did not refer to you as sir in my first post there..DUDE.

  • @zj360666 I saw the words: "Sorry & Dude" used in that last sentence.

So,...apology semi-accepted. And for future reference to me in your case,

    Make it,..."Sir Dude". ;)

  • @Ghstwn Boat people are also RCMP in this video...smart guy. I have worked this line alot,it is very scary...nowhere to go,but that lake.

  • People livin at that lake probley heard one hell of a bang...

  • @janmadytay Actually that may not have been the case, other than a low rumble like thunder in the distance that may have been it!

  • Glad the cowards on the boat did nothing at all to try and help the two crew members way to go quick grab the camera for our 15 min of fame but dont even try to help selfish.

  • What an absolutely idiotic place to put a train track - right on the edge of a cliff that drops over 100' straight down into a lake. How absolutely ignorant. And this is common practice too. Nice work Humans, nice work.

  • @FrigginEngineer .... this area is solid rock... even the roads are like this and may parts of these railway systems were built over 100 years ago...The whole area is historical and very beautiful and it is not industrialized... many of the buildings are well over 100 years old in the area...It is the most wonderful place in the world to live and I feel blessed for the years I was able to enjoy living in Gods Country...

  • @Trumermaid Nelson is defently one of the most beautiful places I have had the pleasure of working (MOW). Very unique, and created some amazing memories. People are so warm there,it's unreal. Hope to move there one day.

  • Many prayers for the families left behind.

  • was that SD40-2 the only engine that was heading out that train?

  • hey i live like 30 mins away from there, and my dad works for cp rail!

  • Its a while ago,but still sorry for the loss of the trainmen, its horrible.

  • OK, how did a conversation about a train wreck turn into a talk about the metric system?

it sounds like me turning the conversation to lawn mowers. and RIP for the train wreck victims.

  • I think the guys who would always wave at me when I was little were killed in this! :(

  • This really is sad. I can't imagine anyone not feeling a little broken hearted about this. I hope their friends and family are getting a lot of support.

  • that sad

  • Holy Crap. That sucks big time. Looked like a bad one and to lose 2 men, Man! May they rest in peace.

  • This is scaryy!

  • Meters? Kilometers? How about feet and miles. We don't need these silly European measurments.

  • @JohnMGilbert Surely you're aware the Metric system is the standard throughout most of the non-U.S. world, Canada notwithstanding.

  • @JohnMGilbert Are you simple? What is this we stuff? You're obviously not too bright if you don't realize WE have been using these units of measurement for a very long time. You must be very old my friend if you are still using the standard system. Metric has been used in this country what seems like forever. Get with the times dude. The only ones in the world who still use that outdated silly standard of measure are the self absorbed americans.

  • @pinkfloyd2654 Ha ha! You took the bait!

  • Oh My God

  • This is so chilling and sad...

May the crew rest in peace.

  • What a horrible accident. Was anyone hurt ?

  • man, this is horrible...i sure hope my friend wuzn't on that, cos that'd be bad. probably not, tho

  • Why do the people in the boat just float around filming, instead of getting up close and having a look?

  • @callmeshane303 dude i sooo agree. like if they got there before medical help arrived, why didnt they call out just in case sumone needed help? i know its still burning, but make the attempt.

  • @desertfoxx1823

    Yeah after more consideration....

    a) I was not there, b) I didn't see what happened, c) I am assuming that they did, d) I am also assuming that the locomotives have a cabin at each end, e) It was an impact with a rock slide and the a 38 meter drop into the lake / river - that is about 120 feet, and f) Maybe the crew went under water or the cabin burst into flames on imact - g) and maybe by the time they got there - the figured "No point" - and "moments after" how longs that?

  • @callmeshane303 good point....ya hindsight is always better. sorry bro

  • HOLY CRAP!!!

  • Oh My! Thats terrible! Yea I thot at first I saw a guy in the cab of the engine, but then as the picture zoomed in I saw it was fire inside the cab! I wonder what was burning since the fuel tanks are underneath.Man that looks bad!!!!!

  • @simonspics1 All the electrics would have caught fire and the fuel would have caught fire in the initial impact. There's plenty to burn inside a loco cab.

  • @kealoa9 Oh I can Imagine,I have been inside one of new N/S Locomotives and ur right they are crammed with wiring insulation etc.And when that stuff gets to burning its like hell itsself!

  • @simonspics1 And the smoke from all the burning insulation etc in the electrical panel behind the crew is HIGHLY TOXIC!

  • @kealoa9 That stuff will collapse ur lungs in a heartbeat! I was a firefighter for nearly 20 years,I can tell you wood fuel fires are bad but the plastics, and chemical fires firefighters deal with nowadays without a SCBA mask your toast!

  • well someone died looking like a badass. all joking aside i kinda saw alot of these wreaks coming.

  • smoke under water, TÄ TÄ TÄ, TÄ TÄ TÄTÄÄÄÄÄÄ! *SING*

  • the other Engine was underwater!

  • did anyone get injured?

  • @steweywillrocku - READ THE STORY!!!

  • @tmtvbctv Story? What story! It's the typical morbid interest in death and suffering which the news media is promoting.

  • for get the kids did they get hert wow how did this happen was it speed or that he could not slow down ??? help

  • if they were not in the cab, then where did they go? and yes Mr.Cagivaman, people are rude as hell making such a bad comment when some one died.

  • Looking at that cliff and the water below is so sad, How Brutal this was! In the "Mountains" all trains should be lead by a high-rail truck, or old time speeder for Safety! The class one railroads are Rich! Workers & their Families are People, not just a dam computer number! RIP!

  • @48alfaone Ya they do that in Mexico in some spots. They are called "explorers". One time, the explorer ran into the back of our machine at 60 kmh. But the alternative would have been MUCH worse. There was a train 10 clicks behind him barreling down on us!! Just fyi, the roadmaster was the one who goofed and told us to stop when we should have been clearing!! One of the drawbacks of getting directions over the cell phone. Never again though.

  • thats sad right there

  • thank god the ore was saved. ore 1, man 0.... ore wins!

  • awww that is so sad that this happened. I couldnt imagine seeing something like this. MY stomach is sick after seeing this. My sincere condolences are with the friends and family of Shawn and Peter.

  • Gee! I was in 1999 at Lake Kooteney but no one told me about this train accident. Even my girlfriend who owned a ranch near Kooteney River didn't tell me...

  • Few questions... How many cars went in the water and are they still there? How deep is the water in this area? Also.. what were they hauling?

  • @bigwesj watch all the vids kid, its all enviroment shit, they were taken up like 4 days later, it happend back in 95 jeesh

  • Comment removed

  • @pocketbikboy i didn't want to go through and watch the videos kid, if you're not going to answer the question(s) then don't say anything at all.

  • @bigwesj Maybe if ytou can't be bothered to watch the whole video that may answer your questions, maybe you should also not bother wasting other peoples time by asking questions that you can't be bothered to use the resources at hand to find the answers to before asking questions about the video you can't be bothered to watch.

  • @skatecubed I'm sorry, did I bother you by not bothering to use the resources? Oh, bother. I'm sorry to have bothered you, and I apologize for bothering you by talking in circles and making my comment a lot longer and pointless and it should be.

  • @bigwesj 3 went down, 2 engines, one hauler, it was a fertilizer car, the water gets up to 200 feet deep in the middle, but where it was maybe 30 not even, watch to whole thing and read the info on the vid, some peoples children

  • oh my... thats horrible...

  • Very eerie

  • Speeders / High-Rail Trucks should run ahead of every Train in mountain spots like this, i am sure CP can afford it, they only make Billions in Profit every years!

  • was this vedio takin after or before EMS/Fire got their?

  • @pruitt3507 - The video was taken before any emergency crews were there.

  • @pruitt3507 the correct use of the word "their/there/they're" you are looking for is "there" Learn which one to use for the appropriate situation.

  • Even if they had survived the fall , when you're in submerged in probably 10 meter deep freezing water in pitch darkness inside a vehicle you'd have little chance of survival even if you were an olympic swimmer.

  • @2CR51 sorry you missed my point.

  • I just worked up in that spot on the tie crew in late October.

It is tragic when something like this happens. When I was traveling my machine past the site, I always bow my head.

  • @Pac3steel Thank you Pac3steel, the engineer on that train was my husband Pete Whitehead, bless you :)

  • Never will understand the things some people have to say "free speech" or not...wonder where there humanity is......

  • @TheArneyman Only TWO? It looks worse than that.

  • how do they clean somthing like that up

  • i myself made many trips to nelson on this very track these poor guys had no time to react my heart goes out to them R.I.P bros

  • ... hell, that cliff faces' coloration

indicates that about twenty meters of the

cliff above the tracks and the 38 meters below

down to the waters' surface had collasped

    before this train came along....

  • omg!

  • Heartbreaking tragedy. So many in the public don't appreciate the high risk involved with the jobs that train crews perform.

  • Well, I guess this means a trip to the alignment shop.

  • I would have gone to the engine and tried to help anyone inside.

Maybe merely knocked unconscious but would be killed from fire and/or from smoke inhalation if not removed.

    What explosion?

  • @robertgift That's the third engine. The first two fell in the water. We were told (one was my uncle) that he would have died from the impact.

  • guys you have to remember that half the people commenting on here are kids!

  • @freqeist

    most viewers:

    gender age

    Male 45-54

    Male 55-64

    Male 35-44

Pretty old Kids in my oppinion

  • @ZzEulAzZ you just made that up..Don`t troll, its boring.

  • @freqeist He made that up????

    Are you serious??

Maybe try clicking the little graph under the video to the right??!

    Yikes!

  • @DarrylM73 yeah, yikes..

  • @freqeist ok I will rephrase it: immature sad old men.

  • @ZzEulAzZ its opinion.

  • for all you people who are wondering why the brakeman and the engineer didnt swim up to the surface, well thats because they were either squished on impact with the boulders (when you at the front a 3000 ton train, you cant expect it to stop like a car...) or they could have smashed into the giant slabs of granite beneath the waters surface. either way, they both mean instant death, especially when you have a 100 ton diesel engine that's bigger than a logging truck rite behind your back

  • And that doesn't even take into consideration the fact that they very likely smashed their skulls into something within the cabin on impact and the subsequent fall down.

  • @CowsXonXcrack finally someone who's smart!

  • So while the boat was floating around the wreckage and the fire was getting worse, who saved the 3rd crewman and at what point was he saved.I assume the other two were trapped in the sunken lead locos.

  • the conductor was in the third unit when they went over, he then walk back towards town before track crew found him.

  • engineer and breakman died, conductor was in the third unit which you can see out of the water, the 2 other units are under water.

  • they couldnt have swam out of them up to the surface for help ?

  • they figure they were killed before they hit the water or were knocked out , i was told no water was found in there lungs,it was certainly a sad day.

  • I love CP rail, thats sad

  • No ones in the cab, its the fire burning. Have a look at it in "high quality" if possible.

  • At 1:35 it looks like there's someone still in the cab waving for help.
