Were there two engines? is that the other one you can just see under the freight car to the left of the engine on fire? Deepest respect to the families involved, a tragic accident.
Well, I can see your crew really went out of their way to bring the boat up next to the engine through the (as you called it) Flaming water? No, you didn't know if someone was in the wreck. So you justify not looking at all??? You could have boarded that locomotive right from the boat without getting your feet wet, or checked the shoreline behind it for the injured. People don't know what houses earthquake victims are trapped in either. So they dig and find out. Self absorbed Pussys.
@Ghstwn Dude, have you ever been in Kootenay lake? Especially in the winter...theres no way the news team could have helped...you need speciallized people for this...read up on the story, before calling someone a pussy...I am sure you would not have done much there.
You should take this video off of youtube. This is not entertainment. It's a real situation were two men died and one survived. You're very rude to post this.
how the hell does a train accident turn into an internet brawl over morals and thought?! It was an accident, and the train crew had died by the time the camera was turned on. by the looks of the cab, the crew died when a car landed on the hood of the locomotive. and hell, why not film it! There's not much else you can do for two dead people other than film what's left of them, and their train.
@jjw2795 I agree...although I am sure that the Engineer and Conductor died instantly when they hit the giant boulder that fell....it was massive. I have worked this line, and it it is one of the most dangerous ones out there.
@Avenger4343 I was wondering why you watch gay porn but we all know why so no need to futher embarrass yourself with more pedestrian thinking filled retorts.
In response to the "coward" remark from NotchEightProductions. The TV crew was on site around an hour and a half after the crash had happened and there were work crews on the railway and RCMP in a boat. We had no idea anyone was in the train. Also if you want to dive into freezing water, in the middle of a Canadian winter, swim through fuel, that's on fire and not know if someone is in the wreck or not, you go right ahead.
@tmtvbctv You should change the description, an hour and a half is not "moments after the crash". The video does clearly show nothing could've been done to save the crew though.

Gee! I was in 1999 at Lake Kooteney but no one told me about this train accident. Even my girlfriend who owned a ranch near Kooteney River didn't tell me...
@bigwesj Maybe if ytou can't be bothered to watch the whole video that may answer your questions, maybe you should also not bother wasting other peoples time by asking questions that you can't be bothered to use the resources at hand to find the answers to before asking questions about the video you can't be bothered to watch.
@skatecubed I'm sorry, did I bother you by not bothering to use the resources? Oh, bother. I'm sorry to have bothered you, and I apologize for bothering you by talking in circles and making my comment a lot longer and pointless and it should be.
@bigwesj 3 went down, 2 engines, one hauler, it was a fertilizer car, the water gets up to 200 feet deep in the middle, but where it was maybe 30 not even, watch to whole thing and read the info on the vid, some peoples children
Speeders / High-Rail Trucks should run ahead of every Train in mountain spots like this, i am sure CP can afford it, they only make Billions in Profit every years!
Even if they had survived the fall , when you're in submerged in probably 10 meter deep freezing water in pitch darkness inside a vehicle you'd have little chance of survival even if you were an olympic swimmer.
for all you people who are wondering why the brakeman and the engineer didnt swim up to the surface, well thats because they were either squished on impact with the boulders (when you at the front a 3000 ton train, you cant expect it to stop like a car...) or they could have smashed into the giant slabs of granite beneath the waters surface. either way, they both mean instant death, especially when you have a 100 ton diesel engine that's bigger than a logging truck rite behind your back
And that doesn't even take into consideration the fact that they very likely smashed their skulls into something within the cabin on impact and the subsequent fall down.
So while the boat was floating around the wreckage and the fire was getting worse, who saved the 3rd crewman and at what point was he saved.I assume the other two were trapped in the sunken lead locos.
no explosions, boring!

No ones in the cab, its the fire burning. Have a look at it in "high quality" if possible.

At 1:35 it looks like there's someone still in the cab waving for help.
