I have one of these drives.Has been great. But in last few days has developed a problem. The On/Off button seems to be stuck. Is stuck in on position, which I guess is good. But would rather not have it on 24/7,will have to take a look at it when I have the time.
The reason you are experiencing such universal compatibility is because you are using the default FAT32 file system. this means it can process files at fairly high speeds but cannot handle any files of a 4GB or higher size. Is you are making a backup system image or storing larger files such as HD movies or CD ISO's, even large archives you would need to format the drive to function on the NTFS file system, however this may result in a slight decline in transfer speed or compatibility.
I assume you are using that drive as an external drive for your PS3? If yes, will the PS3 recognize it and do video playback from the drive? I know drives have to be formatted to Fat32, does this drive come preformatted to Fat32? I bought a Verbatim Insight 500gb hard drive (comes preformatted Fat32) and it works perfectly for the PS3. I just want to jump up in storage size as HD videos take up so much storage space.
Yes I am am using it as an external drive for the ps3 and my pc. And it does work perfectly on the ps3, but when you see it on the ps3 you have to press triangle on the controller and then select show all.
well i have a problem with this disk, the pc dont recognized it, i think the problem is with the case but i dont have a clue, now i am thing to open this case, and yes use it as an internal hard drive to recovery the data. this problem never happen to you?
No that problem never happened to me. I don't know how to open it though because i dont think its supposed to be opened. you'll probably just have to break the case to open it. Also, are you trying to put it in a desktop or laptop?
well i was using it like a external disk in a laptop, one day i use it in a desktop and and beguing the problem, now i want see if the problem is in the case or is in the disk :S , i thing the problem was when i remove it Unsafe... :S...maybe remove it of the case and link in a desktop maybe works
these are on sale on Amazon. Plus you get a 7 year warranty as opposed to Western Digital's one year warranty
