Actually you're most likely decedents of outcasts and/or prisoners of African tribes rather than kings and queens. It wasn't as though the majority of African slaves were snatched off the savanna. There was a rich slave trade brokered in part by black Africans. These tribes sold off enemies and the unwanted to be slaves, so don't act as though whites played the only part in slavery.
Snapura, I've heard this strawman argument before. How is the fact that Africans sold other Africans into slavery relevant to the responsiblity that the U.S. has to the people that it enslaved? Slavery is as old as mankind. But, the U.S. codified slavery for taxation purposes. After triangular trade ended, the U.S. was still involved in the black market slave trade. When slavery officially ended in this country the practice continued through sharecropping and Jim Crow or black codes.
When does America stop pushing its responsibility for the part it played in the slave off on other countries? Whites enslaves other whites, too and sold each other into slavery. When foreigners first started coming to this land from England, Africa, Spain, Asian etc, all servants, white,black, and in-between were under a form of indentured servitude. After they finished their service, they were supposed to be given 50 acres. That was one of the first things America reneged on with Africans.

True stuff, there are a lot of black ppl, mostly ghetto, who call themselves "real niggas", but the funny thing about it, is that most ethnicities use racial slurs, some cambodians use the word "apple" to one another, some italians use the word "wop". difference being is that blacks are one of the largest minorities here, and have one of the longest histories here.
So instead of trying to change something that is, it's best to accept it and move on.
This is the most illegitimate argument I've ever read in my life. So, because other races do it, we should, too? We should just accept our poor condition, in regards to how we treat each other, and not do anything to change it. We should just be complacent. I'm glad this kid has more sense than you do. What we should do is stop following what other races do and measuring ourselves against other races' norms and start developing our own set of values that make us leaders, not followers.
My point goes to show how fruitless this conversation truly is. The speech that this child's father wrote isn't original in any way. Black leaders have attempted to instill this mantra into their community for years with no avail. The arguments associated with the trepidations of slavery are completely worn out at this point, but they do succeed in creating derision among the black community. (counter-productive) Blacks need to drop the issue, because it lost its potency a long time ago.
This child's father did not write this speech. The child wrote the speech. Blacks didn't pick up the issue to "drop it." We didn't create this word, but we can stop using it against each other, which is what the kid was saying. The speech is original and the kid won a contest with the speech. True enough black leaders have tried to counteract the effects of racism through teaching pride and telling the true history of America instead of the revisionist history that white America feeds us.

When did America ever start talking about the "trepidations of slavery" honestly? Every time we TRY to talk about it we get shut down and told that we're whining. The effects of slavery, blacks codes/Jim Crow, and disenfranchisement are still very real and there are still very real disparities. As long as that exists, we're going to discuss it.
I have absolutely no problem with you discussing it, but realize that no one is paying attention anymore. Blacks have been given equal rights. Your alleged "disenfranchisement" is not a concern anymore. The expression de Jure, not de facto, is what people care about.
If you're waiting for reparations don't hold your breath. That ship sailed a long time ago. The alleged disparities that you cite might be 'real,' but what do you expect to happen? Other people to subsidize your lifestyle?

That's what's really crazy, Oscar. People are allowed in this country to be considered educated even if they don't know anything about the contributions black Americans have made. Even this moron who claims to be in college thinks he gets to dictate to black people when they've achieved equality and what's worth studying in school. But, let me try to assert that I'm educated if I don't know the history of Europe, or what white America has done, or at least what they say they've done.

I've watched on the learning channel how many of the most vile and despicable acts and crimes were committed by whites not blacks. I don't deny the existence of mental illness in the Black community. Nevertheless, check out who makes up the majority of the people getting caught committing acts of mental illness.

(i.e. prostitutes and criminals) Not sure if you know anything about the people on the Mayflower, but most of them were devout religious members who followed very strict set of guidelines. Maybe there were criminals and prostitutes, but they did not make up the majority of passengers.

Actually you're most likely decedents of outcasts and/or prisoners of African tribes rather than kings and queens. It wasn't as though the majority of African slaves were snatched off the savanna. There was a rich slave trade brokered in part by black Africans. These tribes sold off enemies and the unwanted to be slaves, so don't act as though whites played the only part in slavery.

Snapura, I've heard this strawman argument before. How is the fact that Africans sold other Africans into slavery relevant to the responsiblity that the U.S. has to the people that it enslaved? Slavery is as old as mankind. But, the U.S. codified slavery for taxation purposes. After triangular trade ended, the U.S. was still involved in the black market slave trade. When slavery officially ended in this country the practice continued through sharecropping and Jim Crow or black codes.

When does America stop pushing its responsibility for the part it played in the slave off on other countries? Whites enslaves other whites, too and sold each other into slavery. When foreigners first started coming to this land from England, Africa, Spain, Asian etc, all servants, white,black, and in-between were under a form of indentured servitude. After they finished their service, they were supposed to be given 50 acres. That was one of the first things America reneged on with Africans.

True stuff, there are a lot of black ppl, mostly ghetto, who call themselves "real niggas", but the funny thing about it, is that most ethnicities use racial slurs, some cambodians use the word "apple" to one another, some italians use the word "wop". difference being is that blacks are one of the largest minorities here, and have one of the longest histories here.
So instead of trying to change something that is, it's best to accept it and move on.

This is the most illegitimate argument I've ever read in my life. So, because other races do it, we should, too? We should just accept our poor condition, in regards to how we treat each other, and not do anything to change it. We should just be complacent. I'm glad this kid has more sense than you do. What we should do is stop following what other races do and measuring ourselves against other races' norms and start developing our own set of values that make us leaders, not followers.

My point goes to show how fruitless this conversation truly is. The speech that this child's father wrote isn't original in any way. Black leaders have attempted to instill this mantra into their community for years with no avail. The arguments associated with the trepidations of slavery are completely worn out at this point, but they do succeed in creating derision among the black community. (counter-productive) Blacks need to drop the issue, because it lost its potency a long time ago.

This child's father did not write this speech. The child wrote the speech. Blacks didn't pick up the issue to "drop it." We didn't create this word, but we can stop using it against each other, which is what the kid was saying. The speech is original and the kid won a contest with the speech. True enough black leaders have tried to counteract the effects of racism through teaching pride and telling the true history of America instead of the revisionist history that white America feeds us.

If you're waiting for reparations don't hold your breath. That ship sailed a long time ago. The alleged disparities that you cite might be 'real,' but what do you expect to happen? Other people to subsidize your lifestyle?

Try to keep up, I see you're kind of slow, I said that if you have to make a law to give people BASIC rights that they should already have as a U.S. citizen, that makes them inherently unequal. If a law has to made to make a U.S. citizen in the first place, they are inherently unequal.
