@andomitor8 It didn't really need to be said, because we can't take a picture of our own galaxy from afar now can we? A bit of the old 'kinda obvious', wouldn't you say? :-)
@PapaNoah2012 One of the Pythons, it was either John or Michael, said that Eric was the only one who could actually sing. I disagree, I think Terry J is marvellous at singing, but anyway.
Also, Eric is sort of the 'musical' one, he does quite a lot of the songs and plays the guitar. :)
My Dad played this for me all the time when I was younger, science vs humour at its best, with a wee bit of Secular/Humanist philosophy thrown in for good measure... Love it!
@michaelscot9 more than that :). If you could count one star pr. second it would take you 15000 and some odd years to count the stars in the milky way galaxy. :D..
I noticed you visited Potholer54's You-Tube site. Kurious to see everyone's nationality. Yours is a secret. THEN I sees you like the Galaxy Song. Funny as I recently saw The Meaning of Life & decided that song will be played at my funeral.
Now, here's some simple statistics. There are, some say, 6.5 billion humans. If you speed dated them at 1 second each, a very quick hello, 24x7 it would take ~ 205 years. Wiki says the Mily Way is 100-400 Billion stars. If you speed date THEM it would take you 3,169 to 12,675 years. Foget biblically knowing every star. And that's just here-abouts. But looking at a sun will blind you. I did & it partly did, in my right eye. The partial eclipse, Sydney 1959! So Listen 2 ME! & don't do it.
@spinynorman230 HUH? What's the matter with you mate? Dartf or something? Can't imagine speed dating all the stars in the galaxy? You probably don't even know what speed dating is! look, the only way humanity is ever going to know exactly how many stars there are in the Milky Way is to count them individually. OK? Right then, star counting. And don't stop until you've finished. And none of that pining for the fiords nonsense.
just stop talking about religon your not going to save the athieast and your not going to convice the other people there is no god just listen to the freeking song

Tens of thousands have just died in Haiti and many of them children but that doesn't mean there isn't a god and he hasn't set aside a lovely blissful place called "heaven".
Good video. It requires a suspension of logic and reason to blindly follow the notion of an all-knowing omnipotent being whos so bothered about how we act or think. Its intellectually ridiculous a waste of lifes time, resources and energy.
@danielnz1 I don't know where God entered into the song anywhere. It was all simple statement of fact. Nice try at trying to sound like the ever-obnoxious 'intelligent athiest,' though.
@YawpingStance I accept tangible evidence and reasoned logic. The essence of the philosophy of nature and scientific naturalism! The Galaxy Song, squares well with reality and cosmology! And too, that an all powerful concerned God is imaginary.
The Galaxy Song does square with reality and cosmology, but the core of philosophy and naturalism themselves, though often dealing with reasoned logic, are based on the intangible. The song, however, doesn't even touch the topic of God; that'd be you projecting. If you refer to "pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space," it's talking about alien life. Nobody likes arrogant prats complicating a simple song, dear
In addition, people also don't like others projecting their beliefs on a song which doesn't even touch the subject brought up. You think the world owes you something because it's been hard on you or because that's how "deep" people feel and you therefore don't believe in God, that's your deal. Don't put something where it isn't.
@YawpingStance Yes, I was refering in the song to "pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space, because theres bugger all down here" Fortunately more and more secular society are choosing intellect over myth and superstition, and cant easily be controlled and manipulated. Thats hope for all, and I've enjoyed a great forfilling thoughtful life!
Ah, then you don't feel the world owes you something; you just feel the need to be "deep" and "different." Understandable. I might point out that though I'm nondenominational, I'm still a Christian and am not easily manipulated; I believe in science and reason as much as you do. I might also point out that the existences of Jesus and Mohommed have both been proven (though, Jesus was born some time in April rather than December). Though an Athiest, I despair to find you still a lemming.
@YawpingStance This 21st century is so important for Humanities future, only the right of all to be basically free enough to think for our-selves, become knowledgeably informed and then more united, can humanity survive our technological adolescence well. Lemming like, Blind-faith religion all jeopardize and hinder a more enlightened and humane future for all Humanity. Personal spirituality and humanism, I can relate. Jesus born in April is a mormon belief too. You seem confused!
