I've already commented on this but I have just started a group on here that will be animal lovers against the cruelty vids that YouTube either does not know about or thinks its ok to show when it's not! For example, we are against showing live feedings of snakes and piranhas! We are against showing hunting as well! If you want to hunt, do it, just don't put it where I can see it, jerkwad! Same for you snake owners, feed them dead stuff and I won't complain & you get to keep your vid otherwise...
I dunno, cats breed pretty quick. They could definitely work as feeders. Kitties tend to be pretty lankey, I dunno if an adolescent cat would count as more than a light snack for any snake big enough to eat it.
There is no reason not to use cats as food, here in Australia the RSPCA gases ten's of thousands of unwanted kittens and cats, why not sell them as snake food to ofset the costs of running these centres. Also I don't agree with live feeding, I've never had a snake that won't take fresh killed food, it is very easy to break the rats neck yourself killing them instantly the moment before you present it to the animal. Far more humane and eliminates the risk of the rat biting the snake.

Seriously? Cats are more intellectual than rats. They live much longer, and are more able to share compassion. I don't see any problem with this at all, except if the kittens/cats are stolen from someone. I personally like cats as pets. But it's not cruel, it's natural and unfortunately some snakes won't eat anything but live prey. One of my friends years back had a python that only would eat a special type of live mice he had to order (insanely expensive). So he started getting kittens off of craigslist up to 7-8 weeks old and feeding them to his snake. CONTINUED...
He'd clip their claws for the snake's safety and put them in. One kitten would feed the snake for a week. He took good care of the other kittens in the meantime, and if they got too big, he'd rehome them with someone else. Yes, some kittens (I was witness once, eeeww) did freak out and knew what was happening and screamed and meowed, but it was a quick death, the snake rendered them unconscious, then crushed them, so they just went to sleep. I don't think that was particularly cruel...

I have three, and if i decided to give them free to a good home for some crazy, fucked up reason that would never happen, i wouldn't want them to be killed for food. We as reptile keepers are under a lot of scrutiny. We in the U.S. live in a culture where a cat is not the same as a rat. We are having the book thrown at us. People are looking for any excuse to ban our hobby, and a lot of soft animal activists are sure to create a scene any time a cat is fed to an animal, regardless of how many are running stray and euthanized every day because of poor cat keepers. My opinion is "If you feed cats to your animals, make damn sure nobody knows about it!"

I think that feeding cats to your reptiles is ok if you can afford it. I wa actually considering getting free kittens to feed my pythons so I think that it would be the same thing just a different animal. Also, take into consideration that they can harm your animals if they bite them or scratch them. Overall, there just another food item.
I have loved my pet cats and dogs through the years, and I especially loved my recently expired cat. He was a great companion. I just saw a video of a personable Cockatoo bird tonight, that makes me feel even more guilty about eating chicken. There was an American Public Television film short about a very personality rich behavior rich pet chicken I saw. Also, pigs taste good, but they are more intelligent than horses. I do not have any personal affection for reptiles, nor do they, for me.
i live in obetz on a farm and wee have a german shorthair pointer. wee get like 3 cats show up evrey month. me and sompson (dog) go out and take em down. thay hide in barn's and have TONS of babbys its are olny option he brings back a cat in hes mouth evrey week. that is why i would feed those cats to snakes

I would never feed cats to my snakes. I like cats but that's beside the point. Wild cats would be even worse I think. I only feed my collection rats that I have raised and know what exactly they have been raised on and are disease free. Some of my snakes look at my cat like they would like to eat it though. lol! They are only pests to people that love wildlife, a lot of townies and city folk love them here in Australia. I love cats, but when they go wild they kill wildlife. I started to see cats as a pests when I started rescuing snakes, the snakes biten by a cat would be dead by the next day.

Food is food, I personally do not feed live it is always dead except for pinkies and that is bad enough. I don't see the difference between rat rabbit cat etc. If you have problems then meat eaters are not the right way for you.
That is a pretty tough topic to talk about....I personally would never do it and don't think its at all necessary when there is plenty of other pre killed feeders available.Yes,in the wild, large snakes may do this occasionally,but it is still not a staple part of their natural diet. These snakes people keep are not wild and are in a controlled environment and like I said....with all the available pre killed mice,rats ect.(which are more of a natural prey item) its completely unnecessary.
I understand that snakes have to be fed and cats would be just another source of food but I own cats so I could never do it. Ever. I love my cats as much as I love my reptiles (even though I can't own snakes at the moment). I'm not saying anything bad about people who do this but its something I'd never do or want to see personally.

Snakes eat mammals its the food chain. A snake already eats cats in the wild. I dont think its necessary when you have Mice, Rats, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, and Chicks readily availble.
I live 20 miles out of town surrounded by cow & chicken farms. Lots of ppl dump cats and dogs out of town so we always have issues with animals getting in our trash. HOWEVER..I would never feed cats to snakes or other animals. I myself have 2 cats I rescued. I was raised with cats as pets so its pretty sad to hear about them being fed to snakes. I think it has a lot to do with where and how I was raised. I also try and protect all animals no matter what kind they are

I have loved my pet cats and dogs through the years, and I especially loved my recently expired cat. He was a great companion. I just saw a video of a personable Cockatoo bird tonight, that makes me feel even more guilty about eating chicken. There was an American Public Television film short about a very personality rich behavior rich pet chicken I saw. Also, pigs taste good, but they are more intelligent than horses. I do not have any personal affection for reptiles, nor do they, for me.

i live in obetz on a farm and wee have a german shorthair pointer. wee get like 3 cats show up evrey month. me and sompson (dog) go out and take em down. thay hide in barn's and have TONS of babbys its are olny option he brings back a cat in hes mouth evrey week. that is why i would feed those cats to snakes

I would never feed cats to my snakes. I like cats but that's beside the point. Wild cats would be even worse I think. I only feed my collection rats that I have raised and know what exactly they have been raised on and are disease free. Some of my snakes look at my cat like they would like to eat it though. lol! But nope not my style...

They are only pests to people that love wildlife, a lot of townies and city folk love them here in Australia. I love cats, but when they go wild they kill wildlife. I started to see cats as a pests when I started rescuing snakes, the snakes biten by a cat would be dead by the next day.
I see them as an unclean animal, I've never or would ever feed them to a snake.

Food is food, I personally do not feed live it is always dead except for pinkies and that is bad enough. I don't see the difference between rat rabbit cat etc. If you have problems then meat eaters are not the right way for you.

That is a pretty tough topic to talk about....I personally would never do it and don't think its at all necessary when there is plenty of other pre killed feeders available.Yes,in the wild, large snakes may do this occasionally,but it is still not a staple part of their natural diet. These snakes people keep are not wild and are in a controlled environment and like I said....with all the available pre killed mice,rats ect.(which are more of a natural prey item) its completely unnecessary.

I understand that snakes have to be fed and cats would be just another source of food but I own cats so I could never do it. Ever. I love my cats as much as I love my reptiles (even though I can't own snakes at the moment). I'm not saying anything bad about people who do this but its something I'd never do or want to see personally.

Snakes eat mammals its the food chain. A snake already eats cats in the wild. I dont think its necessary when you have Mice, Rats, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, and Chicks readily availble.

I live 20 miles out of town surrounded by cow & chicken farms. Lots of ppl dump cats and dogs out of town so we always have issues with animals getting in our trash. HOWEVER..I would never feed cats to snakes or other animals. I myself have 2 cats I rescued. I was raised with cats as pets so its pretty sad to hear about them being fed to snakes. I think it has a lot to do with where and how I was raised. I also try and protect all animals no matter what kind they are
