After performing more than 1000 rumenotomies and many cesarians, I can say with confidence that animal doesn't show any signs of pain on parietal peritoneum when you apply local anesthesia on the overlying muscles and skin. Little sedative like xylazine needs to be administered in temperamentally excitable animals particularly buffaloes. But it is not very usual to find cooperative animals like in this video who would allow cesarians in standing position. Excellent job done.
Thank you, you have provided inspiration. So that we are living in a small area Bondowoso have to do surgery C-section even though initially they still face challenges. And until this moment we have done as much as 22 times. As well as some we have our amateur video uploads on youtube, to enrich veterinary science and introduce C-section to the public. One time when there is opportunity and God willing, I want to learn a lot from you.
yes the calf is beautiful, but for a cesarean to almost be essential for the reproduction the breed... is this ethical? there is no way that cow could have delivered that calf naturally...knowing this, why continue to breed these animals? i can only speak for myself, but that was disturbing to watch. not so much the cesarean itself, but the reasoning behind it.
@elizrosado : in humans they also get a local anesthetic! its much better, 'cause a general anesthetic also effects the calf and it can have troubles breathing after
@analyticalchica normally you should put the anestheticum deep so that it reaches the peritoneum, but it will always be sensitive because the needles used in big cows are often a little to shorts
Hello Dr. Pienaar, very nice videos. It would be very informative if you explain the kind of sutures you were using, while performing surgeries. Very nice job with C-section. In many countries, vets keep the animal in recument position. I personally like the way, how you performed the operation. Hope to see more videos from you..
wow! i was an OR nurse but nothing has amazed me more! c- section under local anesthesia and in an upright position, you do learn something new everyday!
