  • He lost all credibility when he quoted Al Gore.

  • The ad was better than the interview.

  • @itsgoyanks Erlich predicted mass starvation and all sorts of calamities in the end of the 20th century in America. he predicted the prices of commodities would skyrocket, etc. He gets "promoted" in academia land. On the other hand Rev Camping famously "predicted" the end of the world on May 21st of this year. It did not happen. But he is ridiculed. What do you think is the difference between the two?? Look it up.

  • @itsgoyanks Kudos to Jeter's 3000th. "There is a certain point when doubling of the population will not be sustainable. " Your worries were essentially encapsulated in a book "The Population Bomb" written around 30 years ago by Paul Erlich, an entomologist (studies bugs). Bottom line, he was wrong. One cannot extrapolate conclusions of an experiment using beetles or bacteria because the world we live in is infinitely more complex than the laboratory. He was just recently "promoted".

  • Obama was able to fool Friedman as he did with me about that immigration thing, lol.

  • I can't believe i didn't watch this before my exam.....

  • Friedman: the pro-corporate globalization cheerleader and liberal warmonger. Doesn't he realize that his rah rah rah predictions have been way off? Oh yeah, he won't acknowledge that in this new books.

  • @hornunderscore that is sarcasm.

  • @hornunderscore you must be right. In fact I am sure you are. Sorry to have suggested otherwise.

  • If you have standards, taxes, regulations, and laws, how the hell is someone supposed to invent something in their garage?!

Regulations and laws stop inventors from competing with giant companies!

  • To all those who say Friedman is a hack, idiot or whatever: Did he fake winning a Pulitzer too? I want know how he did that.

  • @teacherhendrix

You ask that as if winning a Pulitzer means you can't be a hack. Which isn't really true, is it.

  • This guy is a miserable hack and cumpkin.

  • this guy is a liberal warmongering idiot. enough said

  • @Wahoofuck Keep taking the medicine!

  • There is a certain point when doubling of the population will not be sustainable. Think of a petry dish with bacteria that doubles in 4 hrs. The nutrients are there, but have a finite space. 1/16 of the dish is full. 4hrs later 2/8 full. 4 hrs later 4/8 full.. hey we still have HALF of this dish left.. we have all sorts of time... 4 hrs later- 8/8 full... oops.. never saw that coming.. we are out of room and now out of nutrients... die off. Are we half way there yet on Earth?Do we have time?

  • bobzilla.. I admit I feel like you hit me in the head with a few of them rocks... His point about middle class expanding is about MORE about China, India, Malaysia, Russia, etc... countries that are NOW competing for world resources b/c they can, and also competing for US jobs. From what I have read, he does not deny the gap between the Rich and the middle class is getting greater; he is also stating that more populations are closer to US standard then before.

  • yes the oil age will not end because we run out of oil, we will one day find a solution to this problem!

  • @aroraarora007 Great comment. good job! spread the truth

  • These academicians drive me crazy. Henry Ford did not invent the assembly line, Edison did not invent the light bulb, Gates did not invent MS, Job did not invent the ipod because of government mandates. If you take away the profit motive from the people, NOTHING will be invented because they will not benefit from them. DUH. Learn THAT in HARVARD or YALE. Friedman and his ilk get a tenured position with pension regardless of how useless they are.And they are rarely fired.Who among you get that?

  • @jcomd Me! Me! I get it! And all I did was take Econ 100. I've also read a couple of Ayn Rand books. :-)

  • He said it all in "we, the designers of the model should take etc etc..." Friedman, a self loathing american sees himself as part of the ruling class. That every other being in the planet should not even aspire to elevate their human condition, because that much carbon use will "kill" the planet. Who the hell appointed Friedman the "guardian of the planet"?? When the earth's population was 5 billion 30 years age, the doomsayers say that at 6 billion, we will all consume the resources. Not so.

  • John McCain sold out way back in 2001 when he supported the war which was political suicide.

  • Comment removed

  • Tom Friedman is an elitist, right wing corporate backer. An enthusiastic backer of the iraq war,I hate this man.

  • wtf ? do americans have born right to be in upper class ?

  • god the more this guy makes a book the more stupid gimmicky metaphors he throws out there. its like getting hit in the head with stupid words.

statistics do not support his arguments. the distance between the rich and the middle classes, the rich and the poor, is rocketing. social mobility in america, britain, most modern capitalist states in fact, has completely stagnated as people are unable to rise out of poverty. i guarantee he was one of those in denial about the recession.

  • garyowen4ever, he must be doing something right, he is the author of several best-sellers and is on all the top political talkshows. what do you do?

  • Amazing how I like and dislike this guy, almost equally.

  • tom friedman has "PROSTATE WARMING."

  • Wonderful book. I highly recommend it.

  • Google on "Brian McAdam".
