This is like the "When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong" version of that phrase. Most (unfunny) people hear all The Office versions, try to imitate them in real life and fail miserably. Just like her.
@smcdaid075 you beautiful genius.maybe nbc will do a crossover one day involving parks and rec as well. if there was a way to introduce my favourite, community, it would be perfect.
@chanandler14 yeah i know, he wrote werewolf bar mitzvah song and the funcooker episode with tina fey. also 30 rock says his name in the episode where they need more diversity.
@tom91775 yeah Waynes World did start it but 9 times out of 10 its gonna be attributed to The Office and Steve Carrel because that's where most people know its from so there you go...
No - Waynes World owns it. I hate it when people don't give credit where credit is due - a good warning to copyright everything that may have value because someone will steal it!
@bearywine well seeing as the only reason anyone even uses it anymore or even recognizes what it means is 99% due to Steve Carell on the office, I would say that he does own it. Wayne's World made the product and The Office bought the distribution rights so to speak. Distributor owns, always.
@tom91775 The joke in its generic form dates back nearly a hundred years, but the particular phrase "that's what she said" was coined by the creators of the office when they adapted the show for American audiences. So, technically, they invented the phrase, which is much more pithy than its original form, but they did not invent the premise of the joke. That is why Steve Carell does in fact OWN "that's what she said."
@MegaBytesFTW No, it wasn't "first." The joke had been around for quite some time before it was repeated on Waynes World. And, anyway, he said "as the girl said to the soldier," not the American "that's what she said." Waynes World has no more claim to the joke than the office does.
@tom91775 She's saying he OWNS it because on Television, that's what Michael Scott is known for... people say That's What She Said and automatically think of The Office.
@tom91775 Dude it's called a joke it's not a serious statement needed to be proved by facts or anything. Also, I'm pretty sure that when she says he owns it, she means he was the one who brought it to popularity, not that he invented it and I don't get what you're referring to as a lame culture either...
@TinaFeysAwesome Alec Baldwin is leaving 30 Rock after this season and since Steve Carrell already left The Office, I think there is a big possibility Carrell will replace Jack Donaghy as the head of NBC next year. It would be more awesome if he had connection with Michael Scott, like Phoebe from Friends had connection with Ursula from Mad About You.
@dolokpurba I heard in an interview with Carrell that the reason he left The Office was because he wanted to spend more time with his kids, and doing a TV show was taking up all his time. So I doubt he would take on 30 Rock. Unless he has changed his mind?
I like could not watch this episode because of that voice haha
